Chapter 80 Sir Williams
AUDREY
Everyone started eating after Darius did and only then did I notice that they all waited for him to start before they did. Small talk flowed through the table while I had my gaze buried in my food my mind a million and one miles away from where I currently sat but Darius' touch kept me aware of my surroundings.
"Are we to expect an heir soon Your Majesty's?" I heard Duke Williams ask. I didn't know much about him but I heard enough to know he wasn't very smitten with me, in fact a lot of them weren't. I could tell by the way they gave me disapproving looks and dirty stares that I was less that disliked by them.
"How could you ask such a question? A half breed as our king? I forbid it" immediately my hand stilled around my fork. I felt blood rush into my ears. "As it is having a human in the position of princess consort renders every wolf's position half as powerful. It would give the Omegas and servants a reason to rise up against their masters and challenge us"
"Challenge the obviously more powerful specie" another nobleman finished.
I could hear alarms going off in my head and the only reason I hadn't fled from my sit was for the promise I made myself. I wouldn't continue to run, this was my place, with Darius and unfortunately being in the presence of all these people. I would put on my game face and try my best to sallow my fear and anxiety, I would deal with all these and even more if it meant I would get to support Darius and be with him. I couldn't continue to shy away from it.
I snatched my gaze to Darius, feeling his hand on my thigh tightening and the rage radiating off him was so intense that it caused the hairs on the back of my neck to stand. I knew what was about to happen.
His eyes had turned a couple hues darker, as dark as they always did when he got angry. I knew everyone else in the room felt the sudden shift in dominance as they all stayed silent.
Before Darius could get up I pulled the hand he had on my thigh into my palms, softly caressing his skin to try calm him down. Slowly he took his seat back, his gaze locked on Sir Williams. He glared daggers at him and I could see Sir Williams shaking as he kept his gaze pointed down not daring to look into the eyes of the king who's mate he had defiled. I continued to try calm him down but he didn't turn to me and I knew if he didn't look at me he wouldn't calm down. Sir Williams was in for it now.
"Sir Williams you have been stripped of your titles and all your holdings effective immediately. As of today you are no longer a member of my court and you are never to be seen anywhere near this castle or else you will be arrested for treason" the words were so heavy they dropped on the table with a loud thud.
My eyes widened as I glanced to see Sir Williams face turn ghostly pale as he stared motionless. In less than a second he was on his knees, "P-please your Highness I made a horrible mistake, pardon me your Highness please" he cried out, his hands clasped in front of him. Darius' face didn't change, he looked at Sir William with no emotion, the only one that was clear was anger.
"No one insults my queen and the future heir of this kingdom and goes scot free. Whatever made you think you will be ignored because you are an ally to the crown I hope your misconceptions have been cleared" he spoke coldly, his tone dark and unforgiving. I glanced back at Sir Williams' to see his pleading gaze directed to me. I wanted to do something, I wanted to stop this and ask Darius to forgive him but I wouldn't question his commands. I understood Darius' rage, he had every right to be angry, I wasn't happy either but this was a very brutal punishment "Anyone else who dares to attack my mate thinking she is defenseless will have me to contend with. And as for what you said, I think it is about time the humans are treated better"
I gazed up at Darius in shock. The entire table had their eyes on him in surprise at his statement. For as long as the were world had existed humans had always been treated as the weaker specie, it had been going on for centuries, eons and to hear the talk of betterment must have shocked everyone to the bone, I know it definitely shocked me. "Get out of my sight" Darius commanded, venom dripping off every word. In seconds guards had appeared and dragged Sir Williams away.
Everyone continued their meals quietly and I felt myself shrink even more into my skin. The atmosphere was so tense I was pretty certain I could cut through it with a knife. I could feel my heart palipating in my chest, I needed to calm down but my body didn't get the memo. I could feel them stealing glances towards me and it didn't help at all. Suddenly my throat went dry and I gripped my wine glass and without hesitation I took a large gulp almost emptying it in the process. I had barely eaten half of my plate and I had already lost my appetite. I had really intended this to go well, as well as it could with meeting the elders and hearing what Nostradamus had to say. My expectations for this feast were so high but now they had plummeted down to the ground and I just felt... weird and out of place and suddenly had this feeling like I needed to get out of here as soon as possible.
I could feel the Oracle's gaze on me as I shifted uncomfortably.
"My lady please excuse us"Faye and Raya stood behind me ushering me to follow. Without hesitation I rose from my seat trying my best to keep my composure as well as my impassive expression, but on the inside? On the inside I was shaking like a leaf. Did the two nobles plan to attack me like that all along? Was Darius too harsh? I put my napkin down on the table and walked carefully out of the hall, feeling the weight on my chest lighten a little now I wasn't in their presence.
