I came back to our unit after lunch time since I am expecting Fire to be back by now. After he saw me, he felt relieved as if he’s been worrying about me for a while now.
“Where have you been? Heaven told me that you were lost a while ago and haven’t came back since then,” he worriedly asked.
“He was the one who got lost,” I contradicted the statement of Heaven because it’s the truth. “I was looking for him but he’s nowhere to be found,” I added to defend myself.
“He told me that you finished early and since you’re also nowhere to be found, he expected that you already came back to our unit but you’re not here,” he added. “You got us worried so bad that even Leaf and Wind came back earlier just to find you,” he stated which made me feel so bad because it was supposed to be their family day today but I ruined it because I didn’t inform anyone of them.
“I’m sorry. I met a new friend earlier and he brought me to their unit,” I explained.
“And you came over?” He asked – wondering how I easily agreed to come over in a stranger’s pad.
“He’s a good guy, I swear. His name is Stone and his friends are really cool,” I told him. “You should meet them,” I added. I feel like they will get along with each other because of their differences in life that fits perfectly with each other so I was surprised when Fire looked so worried after I told him that.
“Aren’t you informed that this university is filled with a lot of bad people? How come that you trusted someone you know nothing about? What if he’s one of those bad people that I am talking about and killed you once you stepped in his place?” He continuously asked which, I’ll admit, broke my heart.
“But he didn’t,” I answered him. It’s breaking my heart how he could easily doubt someone’s intention just because he’s studying here.
“For now, he could’ve not killed you but who knows after your next visit or two?” I can already sense a tone of anger in his tone which I couldn’t understand why.
“But I told you they’re good! They’re cool so I don’t think they could kill someone just because they want to,” I defended Stone and his friends. We were together for maybe an hour or two but I am confident enough to defend that they can’t do what he is accusing them of.
“You don’t understand, Hell,” he’s desperately convincing me but I am willing to stand my point because I was there when he wasn’t to even know those people.
“No, Fire. You’re the one who can’t understand,” I made sure that he’ll feel that sentence and after that, I walked out.
I can’t take it anymore. It sucks how he could easily label my new friends as bad guys when he doesn’t have any clue about their personality. Those boys’ lives revolve around Kpop so why would killing someone be in their priorities? They’re so genuine and they immediately cared for me even though I was new to this place. Is that how bad people act? I don’t think so. The thought of all these things is making my head hurt.
I wake up early today so I decided to take a nap to brush this irritation in me and to ease the headache that I am feeling. Good thing that I’ve already eaten even just a little bit at Stone’s place because arguing with Fire took away my appetite. I thought that I would like him because of his looks and he showed me yesterday his good personality but having that kind of mindset turned me off.
I woke up when it is almost dinner time – exactly enough to make me prepare dinner. I ruined Leaf’s and Wind’s family day and this is the only way I can think to get even for the trouble that I caused them. I should also thank Heaven for coming with me a while ago because he’s truly a big help even though he barely talked.
When I’m already at the kitchen, I started to bring out the ingredients that I would be needing for the meal that I’m going to prepare tonight. They loved my chicken adobo and I feel like they would love this too since this is my favourite Filipino dish – sinigang. I let the pork boil down and while I was waiting for it to be tender, I sat at the dining area since it would take a while before the pork gets soft.
Fire suddenly entered which made it awkward so I tried my best to avoid staring at him but he went towards my direction and sat beside me.
“I’m sorry for being rude a while ago,” he apologetically said and leaned sideways on the table so that he could still look at me. “I know I went too far but trust me, I just want to protect you from this cruel environment,” he explained. As compared to his loud tone a while ago, it is evident how soft his tone is right now.
“I’m not a kid, Fire. I can protect myself,” I answered back.
“I know. But you’re our princess here and our job is to make sure that you’ll always be safe,” I was touched after he said that. I can feel the sincerity in his voice which makes me realize that he’s really not that rude after all. “No worries. You can continue being their friend. Just tell me if they’re already hurting you and I’ll punch them on their faces,” he tried to joke around so even though that’s a bad joke, I still laughed to make him feel that we’re already good.
When I look at him, I noticed the redness on the side of his lips. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t there a while ago so I know that it’s just new.
“Did you get into trouble while I was sleeping?” I asked him. Maybe my dad’s really right about them being gangsters then.
“Don’t mind this. I’m okay,” he said covering the side of his lips that’s bruised right now.
“It’s not okay, Fire. Let’s ice it,” I told him and immediately stood up to get an ice pack inside our freezer.
“You don’t have to do it,” he stopped me but he’s too late since I already got the ice pack.
