Chapter 230 Press Conference
Chapter 230: Press Conference
Even when she saw Ronald, Adeline couldn't believe she was saved.
Allen, pinned down by the police, was still shouting. "Adeline, tell the police! You willingly gave me the diamond as compensation for our breakup, right?"
"Adeline, you bitch, say something! Have you forgotten about your parents?"
"You don't need to worry about them." Ronald's cold voice cut in. "They've already been rescued. The men you hired didn't even need to be interrogated; they gave you up immediately. Save it for the police."
"Adeline! Don't you care if your parents live or die?" Allen struggled, his eyes fixed on Adeline. If he wanted to get out of this, his only hope was for Adeline to be his "witness."
Adeline clenched her fists, her body trembling.
Ronald put his arm around her shoulder, patting her gently. "Don't worry, your parents weren't poisoned."
"What? But Allen said..."
"What does he know? The Murphy family can't speak a single truth, and he believes everything they say. What an idiot," Ronald sneered, then ignored Allen and led Adeline away.
In the car, Adeline was still in a daze. "Ronald, are my parents really okay?"
"Of course. I wouldn't lie to you," Ronald said, taking out his phone and making a video call to Opal.
"Mr. Williams, I'm outside Mr. and Mrs. Smith's room. Ms. Smith? Do you need to talk to them?" Opal walked into the hospital room with the phone.
Seeing her parents on the screen, Adeline's tears finally broke free. "Mom, Dad, are you okay?"
"We're fine. The police arrived quickly. What could have happened to us?" Sandra's cheek was still a little swollen, but she was clearly in good spirits.
Ryder also leaned in, looking Adeline over carefully. "As long as you're okay, that's all that matters. You scared me to death. I was wondering where you were going to get a diamond." If the Smith family really had a diamond, he would have sold it long ago. That thing was nothing but trouble, and the wealth it brought was a disaster.
"Mom, Dad, as long as you're okay." Adeline sniffled, trying to hold back her tears.
Ronald held her hand the entire time. After she hung up, he said, "You were smart this time. But next time, no acting on your own, you hear me?"
"I'm sorry. I caused you trouble again," Adeline bit her lip, feeling like a complete fool. She had thought that being in a busy downtown area would be safe, but she had never imagined Allen would be so deranged.
"It doesn't matter if you cause me trouble. What matters is that you're okay!" Ronald sighed and pulled Adeline into a tight hug. "But this time, it was a blessing in disguise. We actually found some useful evidence in that villa."
"What evidence?" Adeline looked up, only to see Ronald's chin.
Ronald kissed her deeply, and after a long moment, he said, "A recording of their conspiracy. Edwin had a recording pen hidden behind a mural in the villa's living room." When the police went in to arrest them, they accidentally knocked down the mural, and the recording pen fell out. Perhaps afraid it would be damaged, Edwin had wrapped it in a lot of sponge, so it was in perfect condition.
Seeing Adeline's surprised look, Ronald tapped her nose. "You're very lucky. This time, the evidence is concrete. The Jones and Murphy families are finished."
At the hospital, after confirming that her parents were indeed okay, Adeline fell asleep in their hospital room. She had been running around for the past few days and had barely gotten any sleep.
Looking at Adeline's exhausted face, Sandra's voice choked. "Adeline has really been through a lot."
"Yes. We never wanted her to get involved in this, but life is unpredictable," Ryder sighed, gently tucking Adeline in. "Let her rest. We should also think about how to hold the press conference tomorrow." Since they had all the evidence, it was time to let the world know who the real culprits were.
Adeline heard the door close, but she was too tired to wake up. And she slept until the next day.
She was woken up by Ronald.
"So early? What's wrong now?" Adeline rubbed her eyes, feeling like she hadn't gotten enough sleep.
"There's a press conference today. Grandma is also ready. We're just waiting for you to wake up," Ronald said, gently tapping her nose. Adeline's eyes shot open. "A press conference?"
"Yes. There are some rumors that need to be cleared up." Ronald said, placing a set of clothes on the bedside table. "Alright, go get changed. After today, everything will be over."
Hearing this, Adeline became more awake. She understood that Ronald was going to make everything public.
Many people came to the press conference. Adeline roughly estimated there were over a hundred reporters. When everyone saw the Smith and Williams families appear together, the flashbulbs went off nonstop. Adeline subconsciously took a step back.
Sandra took her hand. "Adeline, the truth will come out today. Just hold on." Sandra's voice was heavy, but her expression was firm. "I believe your grandmother will be watching from heaven."
Adeline nodded firmly and took her seat.
"First, thank you all for coming to Opulent Treasures' press conference," Elaine's voice came through the speakers. "Second, today's press conference is not about new products, but it is about jewelry."
She clicked on the big screen, which showed a somewhat blurry old photo of Rhiannon and Nancy, holding the three pink diamonds. "I believe everyone has heard some rumors about Opulent Treasures recently. In the end, it's all because of these three pink diamonds." Her voice was unhurried, as if she were telling a story. But this calm voice made all the reporters' eyes widen.
"Ms. Wilson, are you saying that the people who killed Nancy back then were the chairmen of the Jones Group and the Murphy Group?"
"Do you have evidence? Are you here to release the evidence today?"
"I heard that the illegitimate son of the Jones Group was arrested at a bank yesterday. Is that related to this?"
"Does the Smith family also believe this story? Did Ms. Stewart really not embezzle the diamond?"
A barrage of sharp questions was thrown at them. Adeline clenched her fists. She knew today wasn't her stage, but it was closely related to her.
Sandra took the microphone and said calmly, "For all these years, Ms. Stewart has been investigating my mother's death. Even I, her daughter, had given up, but she never did. And she has always been secretly supporting the Smith family."
"We have submitted all the evidence to the police, and I believe they will have a conclusion soon. As for me," her voice trembled slightly, but she said firmly, "I have always believed that Ms. Stewart is not a murderer. I have never doubted her."
