Chapter 103 Dinner time (2)
Alex’s Pov
I return to my seat ignoring all the side looks and murmurs from the coven members . As I slid into my chair , I fix my glare on Lucy giving her a brief smile as Luca leans towards me “Does Anto have everything under control?”
I tilt my head to face him “ Yes it's all under control “ turning back to my plate I notice the main meal has been cleared already picking up my glass I down it in one gilp returning it to its spot.Soon enough desert appears on my plate and I pick up my spoon to take a small bite . I look towards Alessia’s empty chair once more as she flashes thorough my mind suddenly and unbidden.I wonder if she is enjoying her meal alone without me ? Is her food as tasteless as mine is ?
Shaking my head I look towards Enya as she gestures towards the desert “Enjoy your dessert” she says calmly “This is usually the best part of the meal for me.” A few people chuckle in response . Indeed especially if you are enjoying it with your loved ones . I look towards Enya again as Orza feeds her and she giggles like a teenager. Jealousy instantly fills my heart . I really wish Alessia was by my side but it is what it is.
Sighing A yawn escapes me its been such an emotional roller coaster day and it’s still not over. At least Anto was able to secure the perimeter again thats one win for me.
As we round up with dinner tea and coffee is served by the passing servants this time I look towards Lucy as she tilts her head and quickly scans the room as if she is searching for somebody or something. One by one she pauses on each person seated on the high table and ends her perusal with the witches who I was caught with earlier . They seem to be sharing another joke as their laugh is light and carefree .
\-Too carefree for women who wreck havoc
Shaking my head I return my eyes to Lucy as she brushes a hand over her left eyebrow once .
Is that a signal of some kind?
Luca seems to notice her too and he leans into me whispering in my eye “I think she is studying them”
“Yes I can tell” I murmur
Angelica leans towards Luca subtly “Have you seen or heard anything?”
“Nothing at all” I reply my voice very low
Across the dining table Enya speaks up gently “Is there a problem Signore ferrini?I notice you and Luca keep whispering back and forth”
\-So she has been watching us too,Well two can play the game
I lift my refilled glass to my mouth but don't drink yet “Its nothinh Enya just updating him on some news I got from home”
Enya smiles taking a sip of her drink ,I notice Lucy from the side of my eyes watching Enha as well for a few minutes before turning back to her plate.
\-Does she suspect Enya too?
\-Thats interesting
“Speaking of whispers” I add casually returning my glass to its position untouched . “Enya my memory of earlier on is a bit hazy”
Enya’s eyes meet mine as it widens slightly ,Very slight but I noitced it regardless.
“This morning before you left” I continue My tone casual “I had two drinks with Luca as clear as day with breakfast”
A few people murmur but I can't place what they are saying.
“After you left I was offered a third” I say slowly “but for the life of me I cant remember by whom”
The table is suddenly quiet, so they were all listening. “I cannot remember who served me”
I add “I only Know I was given it after you left with Alessia”
Angelica takes a deep audible breath as luca shifts in his chair ,Enya sets her glass down carefully
“Everyone drinks freely here” Signore she says smoothly “Any one of the servants could have-”
“This is your coven” I interrupt politely “You must know who serves at any point in time”
No one utters a word as I continue to watch her she exchanges a look with Orzo
Gotcha
She does know who it was
“I remember you mentioned you know all the servants yesterday”’I continue my voice is cool calm and collected. The High council members exchange a few looks and I ignore them not sparing them a look.
“Yes I did say that” Enya admits “But nothing you were served should have cause your memory to be missing or fuzzy”
I nod once “ Then Maybe it wasn’t the wine that caused the confusion”
Leaning back I steal a glance at the Jezebels that were used to seduce me . Their hands are tight around each other lips turned in a frown . They probably didn't expect me to raise the subject at dinner .But they obviously don't do their research on me well. You can not shame the shameless after all.
Enya murmurs under her breath and I turn to her once more “That is enough Signore Alex” she says “This is our dinner table not a tribunal table”
“Fair enough” I agree “I just want to understand what exactly happened this morning” . Lucy coughs as she speaks finally “If a spell was used signor Alex” she says quietly “It will have a unique signature that we can trace”
Everyone faces her “Most especially the spells that are used to wreck havoc” she adds lowering her gaze to the table once more.
Enya looks at Lucy questioningly “Lucy have you been able to sense anything of that sort?
Lucy pauses for a moment just long enough to get everyones attention “ I can sense something.”
\-She leaves it hanging
Not wanting to point fingers yet, shifting in my seat I fold my arms on my chest “ Its apparent someone wanted Alessia to see what she saw today and I intend to find out who.”
The table is quiet as everyone is still, no one expected me to throw everything out there like that
And in that very instant I know it was a collective effort and they are all aware . Dinner resumes after that but everyone is quieter and less laughter goes around the table.
What they dont know is Lucy is silently working gathering all the clues and their body language’s to discuss later .
I have drawn the battelines lets see who comes out victorious.
