Chapter 90
Anna
"You okay?" Duncan asked, pulling out my chair like we were in some old Mafia movie. All that was missing was a violinist playing something tragic in the background.
We were seated in the private section of the restaurant. And by private, I mean so quiet I could hear my own anxiety tap dancing. It was a gorgeous see though-glass, chandeliers, candlelight, and waiters dressed better than me. Definitely destroy your credit score kind of place
"Yeah," I said, slipping into the chair with a smile.
Duncan leaned down and kissed my cheeks before sliding into the seat across from me. I shot him a look.
"What was that for?"
"Felt like it," he said with a shrug that was way too confident. "Also, you looked like you were about to faint. Thought I'd bring you back to Earth. Besides, I can tell your body is still hungry for mine. You know it's not too late to make you cum. There's a beautiful private bathroom here."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. Looks like someone is projecting. Still hard from our little session?" I smirked. The way he was trying to act unaffected was even funnier.
He grinned, leaning back like he owned the place. "So, what do you think?"
"it's beautiful," I admitted, glancing around. "Fancy. A little intimidating. One wrong move and I feel like I'll owe them a kidney,"
"I can buy you a new kidney. Just say the word and agree to be mine."
I froze. "What?"
He blinked innocently"Nothing, I said, what would you like to eat,"
I narrowed my eyes and grabbed the menu. "Pretty sure you didn't say that."
"Pretty sure you imagined something else. Maybe you're already falling for me."
"That's not how that works," I said quietly.
He went quiet too, staring at me. He seemed like he wanted to say something but thought better of it.
I scanned the menu, squinting. "Why does everything sound like a spell? Risotto al tartufo nero, what am I summoning? Voldemort?"
"You're summoning flavor." Duncan replied smoothly. And probably a bill that'll hurt your soul."
"Good thing I'm not paying." I said with a relieved sigh.
"Good thing you're with me, then."
"Not like I have a choice,"
I said.
Duncan chuckled. "No, you don't. I only about saved your life,"
I pursed my lips. The bastard was right.
"You're so full of yourself, Duncan. How has nobody tried to kill you yet?"
"Oh, they have. They just never succeeded,"
"I'm talking about the precious women in your life,"
"I have no woman in my life, well, except you."
"Sabrina? Lily?"
"Including them,"
"I find that hard to believe, there's no way..."
"There is. I have no relations with them. Ever since I met you, it's been hard to think of another woman or even what to be with them sexually."
He sounded genuine enough but I wasn't sure I believed him or wanted to believe him.
"So, you are saying you never had sex with any woman since the day you met me?"
He was about to answer when his phone rang. He glanced at the screen on the table and groaned in annoyance.
"Give me a sec,' he sighed and picked up the phone.
I watched as he stood and walked towards a door I assumed was the bathroom.
Just then, my phone vibrated in my purse and I quickly took it out.
My heart almost gave out when I realized it was Tim.
I picked up the call.
"Tim, what the hell?!" I whisper-houted as much as I could, relief flooring my entire body.
"Hey, you're alive, that's great,"
"First of all, that should be my line, secondly, where the hell have you been? It's been three days. I was worried to death." I yelled, looking towards the door that Duncan had disappeared into.
"I'll explain later but there's something you must know, I need you to meet me at our usual spot, tonight,"
"I can't right now. I'm in Venice,
"What? Venice as in Italy?"
"Yes, Italy,"
"You need to come home like yesterday, it's important,"
"I can't just come home, Duncan has me here. Something happened
"You're in danger, Anna. Duncan is not who you think he is,"
"Who is he?..." I started to ask but the door to the bathroom opened and Duncan began to walk towards me.
"Shit, Duncan is coming. Tell me what's going on before he gets here,"
"He's not..." I didn't hear the rest of what he said because the sound of a gun shot and glass shattering to the floor erased Tim's voice. My phone fell to the ground and screams erupted around me when a bullet whooshed par me.
With my quick reflexes, I bent down and scrambled under the table, trying to assess the situation.
My first instinct was to find Duncan.
He was frozen in place but his reflex quickly kicked in and he began to walk towards me.
He yelled out something but I didn't catch it.
Another gunshot rang out from the direction of the shattered window, and my eyes widend in panic as Duncan barely dodged the bullet. Without thinking, I scrambled out from under the table and bolted toward Duncan, the only thing on my mind to protect him.
"No!" he shouted, shaking his head. "Stay back,"
But I didn't listen, I just wanted to help him.
Suddenly, he moved.
One moment he was across the room, and the next, he was sprinting toward me with impossible speed, inhumane speed.
My breath caught as I watched him dodge the bullets effectively. He was a blur, a shadow between heartbeats. I barely registered the overturned chairs and shattered glass before he was almost at my side.
But something didn't feel right.
The shots ringing out around us, they weren't aimed at people. They were hitting walls, chandeliers, everything but people.
I looked around the room in a split second and then I saw it
The angle of the broken window. The clean entry point of the first bullet. The precision of it all.
The other bullets were distraction. There was a sniper. And it wasn't just shooting randomly, it was targeting him.
I glanced at Duncan.
"Duncan, fuck, there's a a sniper!" I screame when I saw a red light pointed at his temple. , my heart beating in my chest as he lunged for me trying to shield me.
A single, perfectly aimed shot sliced through the air and struck him in the neck.
His eyes widened and his body collapsed on top of mine.
I scrambled towards him but before I could reach him, I heard footsteps walking towards me, I turned around to look. Two masked men grabbed me from behind.
"Forget about him princess, it's you we want," one of them said.
"Over my fucking dead body,"
I spat, about to kick when one of them hit me with a rod.
I fell to the ground.
"Duncan!" I called out, tears spilling down his face.
He was staring at me, trying to move but unable to.
I couldn't believe what was happening. I was watching Duncan die. I was watching the man I was starting to love die
"Let her go!" Duncan growled as he trid to move but a man from behind pointed a gun at him and fired. It went though his head.
"Duncan!" I screamed, tears falling down my eyes.
"You bastards!"
I tried to fight back but one of them injected my neck with a syringe. I fell to the ground with a thud and everything instantly turned black.
