Chapter 65: She Will Definitely Follow to Silverlight City

"Silverlight City?" Emily's hand froze mid-air with the spoon, her heart immediately racing.

Wasn't Silverlight City where Samuel's company was located? Could James be heading there to mess with him?

"Can't stand the thought of me leaving?" James raised an eyebrow, teasing her.

Emily quickly composed herself and replied, "Of course, you're going on a business trip. I hope you come back soon."

James gave her a long look but didn't call her out on the lie. "I've arranged for Delta and Preston to look after you while I'm gone."

Emily nodded absentmindedly, her mind spinning. What was James really up to in Silverlight City? Was it just business, or was he planning to go after Samuel?

She couldn't let James hurt Samuel. After a moment's hesitation, she asked, "Is there something important you need to do in Silverlight City?"

James put down his utensils, wiped his mouth with a napkin, and said, "Why do you ask? Do you want to come with me?"

"I..." Emily stammered. She wanted to go but was scared James would figure out her real intentions.

"Don't worry," James said gently, as if reading her mind. "Stay home and wait for me, okay?"

His voice was low and magnetic.

"Okay," Emily blushed and looked down, avoiding his gaze.

The next day, the morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a soft glow on the floor.

Emily stood by the window, watching the black car drive out of the courtyard. Her heart felt heavy and bitter.

James was really going to Silverlight City.

Even though she had resolved to stop him last night, she found herself speechless when he actually left.

She could only watch as he got into the car and drove away, unable to say a word to make him stay.

"Ms. Johnson, don't worry, Mr. Smith will be fine," Delta said, handing her a cup of hot milk.

Emily forced a smile, took the milk, and sipped it, feeling bitter inside.

"Delta, do you think he's really going to Silverlight City just for work?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Delta paused, then smiled, "Of course. Mr. Smith is always focused on his career. This trip must be for business."

Emily didn't respond, just stared out the window, her eyes clouded with confusion. Was James really just going for work? Why did she feel like there was a hidden meaning in his eyes?

"Ms. Johnson, don't worry. Mr. Smith is smart and capable. He'll be fine," Delta reassured her.

"Okay," Emily replied absentmindedly, her mind replaying James's deep gaze and his cryptic words before he left.

She couldn't just sit around and wait!

Emily took a deep breath, like she was making a huge decision, and turned to Delta. "Delta, book me a ticket to Silverlight City ASAP!"

Delta looked stunned, clearly not getting it. "Ms. Johnson, you want to go to Silverlight City? But Mr. Smith..."

"No buts! I'm packing and leaving!" Emily insisted, then dashed back to her room, leaving Delta standing there, totally confused.

Meanwhile, a black car sped down the highway. James was in the back seat, eyes closed, resting.

"Mr. Smith, why so quiet? Thinking about Ms. Johnson?" Robert, who was driving, glanced at James in the rearview mirror and couldn't help but ask.

James slowly opened his eyes, a knowing smile on his lips. "Yes."

He paused, then added, "She'll definitely come to Silverlight City."

Robert looked even more puzzled. "But Ms. Johnson doesn't know your real reason for going to Silverlight City, does she?"

James didn't answer, just stared out at the passing scenery, his eyes deep and unreadable.

He knew Emily would come because he was starting to understand her.

He knew she pretended not to care, but deep down, she worried he and Samuel would clash; he knew she seemed weak, but was actually very stubborn; he also sensed she had feelings for him.

Thinking of this, James's smile grew more certain.

Acting quickly, Emily soon headed to the airport. She calculated the time and figured that if she flew, she could get to Silverlight City faster than James. She could warn Samuel to be prepared.

Before boarding the plane, she called Evelyn.

Evelyn's shocked voice came through the phone, "Oh my god! Emily, you're really going to Silverlight City!"

"Emily, you're not going to see Samuel, are you?" Evelyn teased.

"Come on, this is no time for jokes!" Emily was a bit exasperated.

"Don't be shy, I get you!" Evelyn's voice lowered a bit. "But seriously, there's a big event in Silverlight City recently."

"What's that?" Emily's heart skipped a beat. Could it be something happened with James?

Evelyn explained, "Isn't Samuel into artificial intelligence? Silverlight City is hosting an AI technology expo recently, and I heard it's a big deal. Samuel's project is one of the key exhibits!"

Evelyn's words made Emily breathe a sigh of relief. So it wasn't about James.

"Really? Could James be going for that?" Emily's tone was doubtful.

"That's why I said it's good you're going to Silverlight City. You can check out the expo," Evelyn suggested. "Do you want me to go with you? I've never seen such a high-end expo!"

Emily thought for a moment, about to agree, but then James's cold face and his cryptic words before he left flashed in her mind.

The less trouble, the better. Evelyn going would only complicate things.

"No, Evelyn, I can go alone," Emily declined firmly. "Don't worry about this, I can handle it myself."
