Chapter 56 Rachel Posts on Instagram to Clear Her Name
Admirer.
Such a simple word, yet it carried so much weight.
The first implication was that Michael was placing himself beneath Amelia, which surprised everyone.
To them, Michael was the top figure in River City in terms of wealth, status, and power. No one dared to mess with him.
Amelia, on the other hand, was an illegitimate daughter from the countryside who had come to seek refuge with the Martinez family. Her background was often looked down upon and despised.
But Michael said he was Amelia’s admirer.
He even introduced himself to them without any airs, clearly because of Amelia.
In the past, whenever they saw Michael at events, he was always seated in a wheelchair, exuding a powerful, oppressive presence from a distance.
Everyone had different thoughts.
Tobias, for one, couldn’t accept it. He didn’t care about Michael’s status or position; he just believed that any man coveting Amelia wasn’t a good person.
Lila felt regretful. She had hoped to bring Orval and Amelia closer, but now she was told that Michael had already taken an interest in Amelia.
In terms of height, looks, demeanor, wealth, status, and power, who in River City could compare to Michael?
Michael used to be disabled and confined to a wheelchair, which gave Orval a slight advantage with his healthy body. But now that Michael’s legs were healed, Orval had lost even that edge.
Orval himself didn’t have romantic feelings for Amelia.
He liked Amelia from the moment they met, but it was the kind of affection one has for a sister, not romantic interest. He was just surprised by Michael’s words.
Who would have thought that Chris’s sister Amelia had such charm that even someone as high-status and typically indifferent to women as Michael would be moved by her?
As for Chris, he couldn’t help but become curious about Amelia.
Amelia was supposed to be a shy, insignificant illegitimate daughter raised alone by Rupert in the countryside, but she was actually a genius with high intelligence.
Amelia was smart yet low-key, kind and grateful, and indifferent to money, embodying all the qualities that would make Chris see her in a different light.
Sister.
Amelia was his half-sister, and although they hadn’t spoken much, Chris felt a natural bond brought by their shared blood for the first time.
“Since we’re going out to eat, how about we go to Orchid Restaurant? We can head straight there,” Michael suggested after introducing himself.
Everyone looked up.
Eric, who had arrived at some point, had parked a stretch limousine by the roadside. He stood there respectfully with the door open, ready to welcome everyone into the car.
It was hard not to be impressed; Eric was indeed Michael’s most capable aide, with keen perception and quick actions.
“Thank you for the trouble, Mr. Johnson,” Lila said. Though she was a bit nervous around Michael, she was Elton’s wife and had met many bigwigs.
Lila quickly regained her composure, getting into the car with Rex. Chris and Orval followed. Only Tobias was left, clinging to Amelia.
“Amelia,” Tobias said miserably.
“Get in the car,” Amelia said, seeing Tobias looking like a sad puppy who had lost his favorite toy. She ruffled his hair. “Brother, you need to behave.”
Amelia’s words instantly lifted Tobias’s spirits.
Yeah, Michael said he was Amelia’s admirer, which meant they weren’t together yet, just in the pursuit stage.
Tobias realized he shouldn’t be dejected; he should use this opportunity to keep an eye on Michael.
If Michael was as bad as the rumors suggested, there was no way Tobias would let Amelia be with him!
Once everyone was in the car, Michael leaned in slightly, carefully placing his hand on the top of the car door to prevent Amelia from bumping her head as she got in.
Amelia noticed and smiled slightly. As she got in, she discreetly squeezed Michael’s other hand, offering comfort.
A comfort for meeting but not being able to be close.
Michael felt it and a hint of tenderness flashed in his eyes.
Orchid Restaurant was the most upscale and expensive restaurant in River City.
The average cost per person was about ten thousand dollars, so only the wealthy and powerful could afford to dine there.
Ordinarily, it was impossible to make a spontaneous visit because Orchid Restaurant only accepted reservations made at least a month in advance.
However, Orchid Restaurant was one of the Johnson family’s businesses, and it was said that there was a special VIP room reserved exclusively for Michael.
In the car, Amelia received a message from Leroy: [Rachel apologized on Instagram and TikTok.]
Apologized?
Rachel, the kind of person who would apologize? That was unexpected.
Amelia opened Instagram and saw that Rachel had posted a long message twenty minutes ago.
[@Charlie Little Bun: Hi everyone, this is Rachel. I’m posting this to apologize to everyone, I’m really sorry.]
[Last night, I opened TikTok and saw a lot of people liking, following, and commenting on my posts. I soon realized that people thought I was the girl who saved someone at the intersection, and they were all praising me.]
[I posted a TikTok to clarify that it wasn’t me, but everyone seemed to think I was just being modest. I didn’t expect Mrs. Church to show up at school with reporters this morning.]
[I really wanted to clarify, but with all my classmates watching and the cameras on me, I got too nervous.]
[I was scared that if I told everyone they were wrong, I’d be criticized by those who praised me, I’d see disappointment on Mrs. Church and Rex’s faces, and I’d be treated as a liar by my teachers and classmates, so I made a stupid decision.]
[I’m really sorry, everyone. I’m deeply regretful and ashamed. I’ll accept all criticism and even insults, and I promise to be more careful with my words and actions from now on.]
[To show my apology, I’ve donated all the pocket money I’ve saved since childhood to a charity for disabled children, hoping that all children injured in car accidents can grow up healthy and happy like able-bodied kids.]
Attached to the post was a screenshot of the donation. The donor’s name was Rachel, and the amount was two million dollars.
Impressive.
Amelia finished reading Rachel’s post and couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow.
Rachel was indeed skilled at controlling public opinion.
