Chapter One Hundred Three
*Enzo*
“Any word on my father?” I ask Samual who disconnects the call he was just on.
He sighs heavily before frowning and rubbing the back of his neck in frustration. “Nothing yet, boss. But I don’t think we’ll need permission regarding your decision when he’s been hounding you for years on it.”
Gritting my teeth I mumble, “He’ll be more than thrilled to learn about it I’m sure.”
Crossing my arms I think for a moment. I couldn’t help going over the conversation I had with Charlie and Gabby a few moments ago. I knew neither of them wanted this just as much as I didn’t myself. Gabby understood the situation and I knew Charlie did too. He just couldn’t face the fact that I had to give in this way. That I was giving in at all.
But I didn’t know what else to do when it came to Dario Moretti. He was a cold stone bastard only caring about his own selfish needs and wants. He didn’t care how the other party might face the consequences. Look what he did with Russo and his wife. He eliminated those he no longer needed or just got in his way because they became irrelevant.
I was in the way for him to obtain both the territory and getting Gabriela. As long as I was around there was no way he could climb to the top. And when it came to Gabby he just wanted her as a trophy prize to show everyone that if he wanted it, he’d get it.
But neither of that was going to happen.
There was no other way to deal with this situation other than the one I didn’t even want to do. If I become the new head for the Giordano, all the other important heads will follow without a backwards glance. And with me in charge they will destroy Moretti. The respect and loyalty I worked so hard over the years wasn’t going to go to waste. Most of them hated my father and I wanted to be sure that even though I made the choice to step away from the life, that I would still have some ground with the others when I needed it.
That was me being rebellious against my old man, who I knew was going to blow a gasket when he learns what I have been doing behind his back. But I’m glad I did because with this new development I knew I wasn’t going to be alone, and I had people to back me up against the man that was trying to steal everything from me.
“Call as many of the men as you can. Tell them to meet us at the main hideout. We need to go over a plan before we act.” I tell him, then think for another moment before saying, “I need to make a few phone calls myself. We leave in an hour.”
He nods, taking his cell and begins to do just that as he walks away from me into another room where he could be less heard. Turning back around I take in a deep sigh before heading into the room that placed Dom. I knew once I told him the news he was going to flip and berate me until kingdom come but I couldn’t just leave without saying anything.
And the worst part about it was the fact that I had to force him to stay behind. So when I walk into the room I come up short to find that girl that had came from the Moretti mansion standing next to him talking. They both look over to me and I don’t miss the look of shock that was on my cousin’s face before he schooled it to hide whatever it was they were conversing from me.
The young girl suddenly straightens and clears her throat. “I’ll talk to you later. Bye.” And she rushes past me and dashes out of the room as quickly as she could.
I quirk an eyebrow at Dom who just readjusted his body on the bed with a wince.
“How are you feeling?” I ask as I walk over to him.
“Same as the last time you asked. So, you have something to say right?” He jumps straight to the point.
“Maybe I just wanted to come check up on you.” I say lamely.
He scoffs at me. “Please, you aren’t good at hiding your emotions as much as you think you do Enzo.”
I sigh. “You’re right. I came in here to inform you of our next plan.”
That statement got his attention as he quickly sits up with a look of eagerness on his face. But the movement caused him to stiffen, wince, and take in a sharp breath from the pain he just inflicted on himself.
Rolling my eyes I gently push him back down. “Calm down because what I’m about to tell you, you’re not going to like.”
He frowns as he gets comfortable. Then it dawns on him. “That’s bullshit Enzo. You can’t keep me from getting our revenge on that bastard. I should be there too.” He states heatedly.
“Dom, you’re not fit to go. You can barely move as it is. You’ll just be in the way, and I can’t afford to focus on Moretti and you at the same time. I’m not going to risk your life just because you want to be stubborn and thick headed on this.”
“But-”
“No.” I state sternly, watching as he fights within himself to start arguing with me. “And if you’re going to fight me on this then I’m not going to tell you anything of my plan.”
“That’s not fair.” He whines with a bit of emotion.
I soften a little hating that I had to do this to him. If anyone should be there right by my side, it should be him. But he’s too hurt and I can’t think straight worrying about him if he was with me. I had to make him understand that this was the best course.
“I’m only doing this because I love you. Please don’t make me feel guilty for forcing you to stay behind.” And I did feel guilty, but if he got even a tiny of an inch he knew he would be able to persuade me to let him tag along.
He breathes heavily through his nose and clenches his teeth, acting like the little kid he used to be whenever he didn’t get what he wanted. I give him a small smile I didn’t quite feel.
He rolls his eyes, looking away from me and he grunts. “Ugh, fine, whatever. Tell me your stupid plan then.” He grumbles.
I crack a real smile now; thankful he wasn’t going to push it any further.
