Chapter 149: too gruesome, too cruel
Carlos
I watched Daisy sleeping in a bed that was far more comfortable than anything the hospitals offered, even in their best private wards. I had arranged for the top doctors in the country to look after her for a full two weeks, and any equipment they might need? I had already purchased it all, although some items were still being shipped over.
Yes, I was probably putting together my own medical centre, but that was fine by me. I already had a team of doctors who looked after my injured men when needed, but I did not want them treating Daisy.
"I love you," I said quietly, pressing a kiss to the back of her hand.
My Gold was looking better now. She had managed to eat something, even if it was only a small amount, but I was pleased she had eaten at all.
The lovely woman lying in my bed kept insisting that she felt better because she could see me, not because of the food I had given her.
The baby? Our baby was still there. Strong, just like its beautiful mother.
I stood up, bent over with a groan, and placed a kiss on Daisy's forehead.
My whole body was aching. The gunshot wounds had not healed properly yet and they still hurt a great deal, but I could have sworn I had not felt any of the pain until we were back home.
It was strange how the mind could choose to ignore certain pains when you were in the middle of a crisis.
Diane walked into the room and gave me a small smile before looking at Daisy. She had cried when she saw me carry Daisy through the door, and then she had thanked me over and over again.
She came over to Daisy and gently stroked her hair.
"Again, thank you so much," she said.
"Those words are starting to get a little tiresome because I have heard them so many times. Daisy is my life. I saved my own life."
Diane smiled and looked away.
"Seb used to say something like that," she said, sniffing.
"I am sorry about Seb. I truly am," I offered.
"Yes, I know. It was not your fault. I understand that better now," she mumbled.
"I am just happy... glad that Daisy has a man who loves her this much."
"I am even more glad that Daisy chose to love a man like me."
"You do not give yourself enough credit," Diane said with a smile, then her expression turned more serious.
"But you also think too highly of your own strength, do you not? You need to be back in bed and looked after by doctors and nurses, Mr Blaze. Do not make my daughter a widow before she even becomes a wife."
"Speaking of marriage..." I studied Daisy's face to make sure she was still asleep.
"I have your blessing now, correct?" I asked.
"Of course you do, and do not pretend my blessing matters that much. You would marry her even if I said no."
"True," I agreed with a laugh.
"But it would be nicer to have your blessing," I added.
"Enough talking, Mr Blaze. The doctors said you are going to collapse if you carry on like this."
"Alright," I groaned, and holding onto the bedframe, I leaned down and kissed Daisy's forehead once more.
"I will be back," I whispered to her.
TWO WEEKS LATER
"Carlos!" Daisy shouted my name.
"Coming, Love," I called back, pushing the door open with a tray carrying a glass of orange juice, a glass of banana juice, a glass of apple juice and two more glasses of other fruit juices.
Yes, the cravings had started, and it was so much fun watching my Gold make all sorts of requests.
She had asked for two different fruit juices in the last five minutes but had refused to try either of them. She wanted something else, and now I was back with something different.
"I am here," I said, closing the door behind me and walking to the bedside table, carefully setting the tray down.
I could have asked the maids to bring it up, but Daisy wanted me to do it. Bring it up to her myself.
I laughed softly. It made me feel wonderful, having my woman share this with me.
"Which one would you like, Gold?" I asked.
"None. I have lost interest," she said, opening her arms instead.
"I want a big, warm hug." She was standing by the window.
"Really? You do not want any? Not the apple juice? Or the banana juice?" I asked, already walking towards her.
"None," she shook her head, and I hugged her.
Hmm...
That scent, that warmth.
"Gold?"
"Yes?" She pulled back from the hug, but I did not let her move away completely.
I only allowed her to pull back far enough so she could look at my face.
"Do you remember we still have that holiday we never took?" I asked, and her face brightened.
The longer I stayed with Daisy, the more I discovered things to love about her, and this... this expression where her face lights up and her eyes go all bright is one of the things I now live for.
"I almost forgot. Our lovely holiday that got ruined because we had to come back and deal with the Sandro situation," she frowned a little, and I tugged gently at her cheek.
"We are going back, and this time nothing is going to spoil it."
Yes, nothing could spoil it because this time I was going to ask Daisy to marry me and become my wife.
Goodness! Carlos Blaze was going to have a wife, and a perfect one at that.
"I do have a question," Daisy said, her voice dropping low. That was a sign that whatever she was about to ask would not be pleasant for either of us.
"Go on," I said, stroking her cheek gently.
"Irene? And that Greyson man?"
"They are dealt with," was all I could manage to say through my teeth.
"Dead, correct?" She asked.
"Yes, Gold. And as much as I would like to tell you, you definitely would not enjoy the details."
But I loved the details. I loved tearing their skin off piece by piece. I loved breaking Greyson's fingers, the ones he had used to strike my lovely woman, roasting them in front of him and forcing him to eat them.
I loved shoving Irene's head under water and watching her run out of breath, just as I had run out of breath when she took Daisy away from me.
I loved cutting both of their bodies apart, and just as I had promised, I had Irene's body buried in separate places.
I was not giving her any chance to come back and take Daisy away from me again. These details... Daisy would find them too gruesome, too cruel, and many others would think the same, but for me, it was not even close to enough.
Daisy was mine. I was hers. We belonged to each other, and anyone who tried to tear us apart had to face death in its most horrible form.
Sandro was lucky. So lucky to have died so quickly, but anyone else who tried to take Daisy away from me would not be that lucky. Never.
