Chapter 43
Lila's POV:
I just finished my performance and the crowds are going wild. Except I'm hearing wrong. The ovation after I was through is way louder than it was when Alya finished performing. It seems as if they already who the winner is. After mine is Ximena than they'll proceed to counting the votes, I just hope they don't rig the last part. While I was standing at the corner of the stage, someone walked up to me and said I was needed backstage. It sounded really urgent, so I had to leave. I followed the person backstage and met Natalie, who kept pacing back and forth.
"Hey…" I called as I went to meet her. She saw me and hurried towards me.
"Hi… We have to leave now." She said and tried to drag me along with her, but I resisted.
"But… Why? We aren't through here yet and…" She cut me off.
"Forget about that… Just come with me," she said and pulled me along with her. We got into a car and drove to God knows where.
On the way, she made some calls, and it looked like she was recruiting policemen, but why? Has she found something?
After some time, I looked out and saw that we were in front of Beamlights headquarters. What are we doing here? Isn't Nikita supposed to be here?
"Come on, Lila," she said as she got out of the car. I came out as well and followed her in. We used the elevator, and it took us to Nikita's office. It was when I walked in that I realized it was my mom and Dean that occupied it, and the room looked like it had been touched by a tornado.
"Mom… Dean… What are you guys doing here?" I asked as I rushed towards them, hugging my mom.
"Oh honey… There's a possibility we might have found something that will prove once and for all you're CG'S real daughter."
"We just need your eyes," Natalie said. I was surprised.
"My eyes? For what?"
"Sorry… Come over here." Natalie took me to a place in the wall that looked like a keyhole, except it's not. I bent and gazed at it very well.
"What is this?" I asked when I couldn't make it out.
"We don't know yet but we hope it's what we think it is," Natalie said. "Open your eyes wider, Lila," she said, and I did as I was told. As I did that, a laser light came out of the hole, reading my eyes. Almost as instantly, the wall behind me pushed backwards and rolled on its own.
I was tongue tied and I think everyone was as well. So there was a secret room in this place and no one knew about it? This is crazy! Natalie was the first to walk in and I followed, then Dean and finally mom.
It was a music studio of dad and since no one knew about it, it had been left untouched for years, meaning it was the same way my dad left it we met it. As a result, there was a lot of dust and cobwebs. But that didn't matter.
What mattered was the closed laptop on the studio table that had a flash drive still connected to it. Curious, Natalie opened it and discovered that even after all these years, the laptop was still on and unlocked. She clicked on a few things on it and gasped.
"Strange… This laptop is empty. The only file in it is the one from the flash drive," she said after some time.
"What do we have to lose, click on it?" I said.
"On it," Natalie replied and clicked on the file. Immediately, a video started playing. It was a video that my dad must've recorded a few moments before he died and it explained everything! Like everything, it even talked about Nikita's plans to kill him. I didn't know when tears fell out from my eyes it was when Dean pointed at it. I hurriedly cleaned it up.
"Do you know what this means?" Natalie asked once the video was over.
"What does it mean?" I asked, sniffing.
"With this, we'll not only be able to prove that you're his real daughter but we'll finally have enough to nail Nikita and much more and now that there's a dance off going on, if we play this for the entire world to see and hear no one is going to be against you coming out to say you're his daughter after such a long time!"
"Really?" my mom asked.
"Really," she replied.
"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go…" I said, and Natalie picked up the flash drive, ready to leave the office.
We got outside, but what we saw made our blood run cold.
"And where do you think you're going?" Nikita asked, her eyes blazing.
Oh no…
