Chapter 6 Chapter Six
Demi's Point Of View
Looking over at Alex, I couldn't help the loud beating that was happen in my chest, I was going through all emotions right now and I don’t know what to do.
"See you in school on Monday?" Alex asked with a smile, a smile so fake that I couldn't help the frown that came to my face, I knew how his real and fake smile looked like because we’ve been friend for so long, I’ve seen him give his fake smile to others but never did I think I’ll be on the other side of it.
"Why not later or tomorrow?" I asked staring at his hazel-brownish eyes, hope was laced in my voice.
"Demi please, let’s not do this" Alex said looking back at me but with a look in his face, I knew that look, I hated that look.
"Alex" I whispered, I felt sad, it was like my heart was being ripped out of my chest and the sad thing is, I didn’t know why I was getting affected this way.
"We'll talk later, I need to go home please get down" Alex said turning back in his seat to face his front, he looked done with this conversation and was ready to leave
"Okay" I said as I unbuckled the seat belt, a part of me was hoping he would say I should wait and not leave but I knew that wasn’t going to happen.
"Say hi to auntie for me" Alex said when i got down from the car, I feel bad and I don't even know why and it’s eating me up.
"I will" I said, not looking at him before turning back and walking up to my door.
I opened the door with my key, then stepped into my house. It wasn’t as large as Christian’s or Alex but it was enough for my family members.
"Good morning" I greeted as I entered the house.
"Demilade!" I heard my mother's voice in the living room.
"Yes ma" I said walking into the living room.
Sitting there in our coffee colour couch is my beautiful dark skin mother, I think her most prettiest feature is her light brown eyes that shines when the sunlight hits it, she was wearing a simple gown that wasn't exactly her size and a head scarf on her head protecting her braids, with her phone in her hands even though she's watching TV. Sigh, typical African mother.
"Good morning Ma" I greeted my mother.
"Lade, it's Afternoon, can't you tell time now?" She asked, even though I had her attention she was still on he phone. I peeped to see what she was doing in her phone and not surprised she was on Facebook scrolling.
"Sorry ma, I didn't check the time" I apologized before checking my time, which shows that the time is in fact 12:26 making it Afternoon.
"Why are you coming home a day after you left?" She asked, this time looking at me but with a brow raised.
"I'm sorry, I forgot to call but I slept over at a friend's house" I said dropped my head in guilt, because not only did I sleep outside, I slept outside.
She just sighed and motioned for me to come closer to her.
"Next time please, just please a phone call will do or message, you had me worried Lade" she said stroking my back in a motherly manner, and it was calming me down. After the morning I just had, I really needed it.
"I was prepared to punish you but I don't have your time right now, but you are grounded for three weeks" she added with a grin making me smile at her too.
It's true my mom would have beat the shit out of me but I guess whatever she's doing or about to do is more important-I’m joking-.
"You played well in the game yesterday Lade, I am so proud of you my baby" she said, this time stroking my cheek, I felt like I was about to cry.
"You make me happy about moving from home to America to give you guys a better chance at living, please keep making me proud like this" said my mother, now I know why she didn't want to punish me, I made her happy last night.
"Thank you ma" I said pulling her in for a hug.
"Alex says hi" I told her still hugging her tightly
"He dropped you off?" she asked to which I nodded.
"Then why didn't he come in" she added raising her brow in confusion. I know why she would be confused, Alex has never once come over and not entered to greet my mother in the annoying way he does, so hearing he was here and didn’t enter must have surprised her.
Oh no, now my body is sweaty and my heart is beating fast, I can't believe just the mention of his name is making me this restless.
"Ehm.....uhhh....he had to....uhhh....he had something to do at home, yes that’s it.."I answered
"Yeah that's why he couldn't come" I added again as if convinced that I had played it cool.
"Oh well, that’s okay" She said still not convinced. I can see her brain trying to come up with reasons why he didn’t enter.
"I'll just go to my room" I told her before getting up
"Okay, there's food in the kitchen if you're hungry" she shouted as I made my way upstairs.
"Okay, thank you" I yelled back.
When I finally got into my room, i fell on my bed, my back laying on the soft mattrass with my head facinh the ceiling.
'why did this shit have to happen' I thought before I let sleep consume me.
