Chapter 28 Chapter Twenty-Eight

Chapter 28 Chapter Twenty-Eight

Demi's Point Of View

"So Demi, have you seen the new Marvel movie trailer?" he asked me, voice brimming with eagerness as he shifted from one foot to another.

I grinned. "Yeah, I saw it. Looks sick. I mean, Thor swinging his hammer around? Classic. I bet I could do that, if I had a magic hammer, of course."

Just like me, Chris was a huge marvel fan, that was one of the things we had in common.

Unlike Alex who was a strong DC fan.

Chris rolled his eyes. "Please. You'd just drop it on your foot and cry like a freaking baby."

I laughed. "Hey now, that’s not true. I'd be a good superhero. Unlike you, who probably trips over his own shoelaces trying to look cool."

He snorted. "Only because you're too busy trying to do fake superhero poses in front of the mirror." He imitated the moves.

"Hey, I'm practicing. You never know when you'll need to look heroic" I shot back, grinning.

Chris leaned back on the tree, pretending to think. "You know what I think? I think if we had superpowers, I'd definitely be the Hulk. Big, strong, and able to smash things. Plus, I'd never be late for class and i would have the dick of a monster."

I snorted. "Yeah, right. You'd probably just accidentally smash your phone and then be mad at it and no way you think you would have a huge dick, most muscle men are known to have small penises."

He laughed. "And you? What's your superpower?"

I paused dramatically, then said, "The power to make people laugh. That's why I'm the funniest person you know." I playfully raised my brows.

Chris chuckled. "Yeah, but your jokes are so bad, they're almost a superpower in themselves."

I playfully punched his arm making him wince and laugh. "Oh, you're just jealous because I'm the star of this conversation."

"Jealous? Nah. I just think you're lucky I'm here to keep you from turning into a total Marvel geek."

"Too late for that," I said, laughing. "I've already got my cape on and everything."

Chris shook his head, then suddenly his eyes lit up. "Speaking of Marvel, did you hear about the new villain they're introducing? Some guy with a laser eye. I bet I could beat him in a fight."

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, sure. You'd probably get too distracted trying to shoot lasers out of your eyes and miss the fight entirely."

He grinned. "No way. I'd just use my secret weapon, freaking nerf guns."

I burst out laughing. "Nerf guns? You're kidding. You'd get destroyed in like 2 seconds."

"Not if I nerf you first," he said with a smirk, using his fingers to shoot imaginary shots at me.

"Oh no," I said, raising my hands in mock surrender. "Not the nerf guns, oh no, anything but that"

Chris pretend to shoot my arm making me playfully wince.

"Hey, I'm innocent, Don't nerf me." I said, laughing.

He grinned. "Too late. Now you're officially part of the Nerf Universe."

We both burst out laughing. The silly banter. That's what I loved about hanging with Chris, no matter what, we could just joke around and forget about everything else.

"You're lucky I don't have my superhero powers," I said, catching my breath. "Otherwise, I'd turn you into a foam statue."

Chris grinned. "Yeah, yeah. But if I had powers, I'd make sure I'd be the one with the coolest costume. Maybe a giant nerf shield."

I rolled my eyes. "More like a nerf helmet, you'd probably trip over it trying to look fierce."

He laughed so hard he almost fell over. "Hey, My helmet's a work of art, thank you very much."

We kept going back and forth, making stupid superhero jokes, pretending to fight epic nerf battles, and just having a blast. It was one of those moments where everything felt simple and perfect.

"You know," I said, catching my breath, "if Marvel ever made a movie about us, you would definitely be the funny sidekick who saves the day with a joke."

He nodded. "And I'd probably save the day with a joke. 'Hey, villain—your evil plan's about as funny as your hairline.'"

We both let out out loud laughs

Chris then spoke seriously. "And Alex would be the giant hero smashing everything in sight."

"Yeah," I said, grinning. "And I'd probably be the one cleaning up you guys mess afterward."

He leaned back, stretching his arms. "Well, I'm just glad we can hang out and be stupid together. It's the best part of the day."

I looked at him, feeling genuinely happy. "Same here. Nothing beats a good nerf war and a lot of laughs with my best buddies."

We were laughing then I turned back and noticed Alex.

But he wasn’t smiling, he had a frown on his face and that immediately wiped the smile off my face.

I bid Chris goodbye and walked over to Alex.

His brows were furrowed and he looked like he was about to cry and that made my heart sting a bit.

I didn’t like seeing like this, it broke my heart.

“Is there something wrong Alex?” I asked him now standing right in front of him, I wanted to reach out to him and pull him in for a kiss but I had to stop myself before I out us .

“Alex?” I called out his name when I got no answer, mu hand reaching out for his cheek, i caressed his face and felt him lean into my touch.

“Yeah?” He muttered lowly as he rubbed his cheeks against my palm.

“Are you okay?” I asked him, I was getting worried and I didn’t like the sour feeling I had.

“Yeah” he said reaching out to hug me and i hugged him back, i knew he needed this and who am i to reject a hug from Alex, or any form of intimacy.

“Are you sure?, you seem a little sad and I don’t like that” i told him as I began to  rub my hand on his back in a soothing way. I knew it would help calm him down, at a very early stage in our friendship I learnt that Alex’s love language was physical touch and that he needed to feel the contact of another person to calm him down.

“Yes” he muttered into my neck as he buried his face in there, which was causing goosebumps all over my body. “Just hold me for a while” he spoke so sadly and that made me feel bad for some reason.

I wanted to make him feel better.

I wish I can kiss his sadness away.

“Okay” i whispered hugging him even more tightly

“I hate when you’re sad” I whispered lowly, hoping he doesn’t hear me.

I just gave his body a tight squeeze trying to get more of his scent in.
