Chapter 22

**ROSEANA**

"Damon, this is not what you think," I mumbled, even knowing he couldn't hear me. As he moves towards me, he has this unreadable expression on his face.

I didn't wait for Damon to get near me. I tried to stand on my own, but I couldn't. My face crumpled when I felt the pain in my ankle whenever I put pressure on it. I think I sprained my ankle.

"Miss, can you get up by yourself?" the man who helped me asked. Even though I knew I couldn't, I nodded at him. The only thing that is going through my mind right now is getting off of this stranger. I can sense the danger just by looking at Damon's solemn expression.

I fell into the man's chest again on my third attempt to stand. I felt his hands on my waist, perhaps trying to help me because he saw my struggle. I'm not sure why, but the moment his hands touched my waist, I felt extremely awful even though I wasn't doing anything wrong. I felt as if I was cheating on Damon when I wasn't. I felt terrified at the same time.

I attempted to remove the stranger's hand from my waist, but Damon violently yanked the man's hand away from me.

The man remarked, "Geez, dude, calm down." Damon paid no attention to him. He didn't appear to hear anything and just kept attending to me. His expression remained unchanged.

He held my waist to support me, distancing me from the man's body. He assisted me in standing. He adjusted my shirt to cover my partially visible bra strap. He didn't say anything, and his jaw was clenched.

"You're welcome," stated the man who assisted me cynically. When Damon gave him a dead gaze, he laughed. He also got up.

Damon's serious expression held my attention. I thought about what to say. His eyes seemed to shoot daggers at whatever he was looking at.

My courage suddenly vanished like a bubble. I can't think of anything to say. I am concerned that if I speak, he will become even more enraged, so I keep my mouth shut. I knew it was a bad idea to give fuel to the flames.

I'm standing on one leg. My right foot is throbbing, and I haven't tried to walk on it because I can already feel the agony even when it isn't moving. Walking will make it worse.

Damon cast a glance at my feet. His brow furrowed even more. I felt compelled to rub his knotted brows after seeing them, but I stopped myself. When he reacts this way, he is very terrifying.

"I can walk by myself," I replied as Damon attempted to pull me up. I cast a glance around at the folks around us. Their gaze was locked on me. They are viewing the situation we are in as if it were a television program.

"Really?" Damon asked, his voice tinted with disdain.

I agreed by nodding. I didn't make a big deal out of his sarcasm toward me. I took a big breath before taking a step, but Damon grabbed me before I could. I screamed. Damon carried me like a sack of rice, and my eyes almost rolled.

Damon slid me over his shoulder with ease. My head was on his back, and half of my body was in front of him, which he was holding. It's as if I'm a piece of paper dangling from his shoulder.

"Damon, put me down!" I grumbled quietly. I am very aware that others are staring at us. When we pass, they all turn to look at us. Who wouldn't if I was in this circumstance and the guy next to me was the hulking Damon?

The woman who once looked at him in admiration is now giving me a dagger look. They're undoubtedly thinking I'm an attention seeker who faked my sprained ankle simply to get this man's attention. I can tell by the way the women look at me. “Damon! I'm sick of my position! Put me down, I can walk!” I said again. My good husband didn't even budge nor stopped walking. I think I could throw up everything I ate because of being upside down.

I wiggled in Damon's grasp. We were in the parking lot, and there weren't many people around, so I wasn't concerned about drawing attention to myself. Besides, I've had so much attention already that a few individuals in the parking lot don't bother me all that much.

Damon stated harshly, "I'll drop you on the floor if you don't stop moving." For a few seconds, I was taken aback by what he said.

"Are you sure? Will you drop me just like how those women drop their hearts because of you?" I inquired cynically.

"Oh!" I grumbled. Damon smacked my buttocks hard. The sound of him smacking my buttocks rang across the parking lot.

"Why did you do that?!" I shouted. My inflamed face from my position became even redder as a result of what he did.

Damon threatened me, saying, "If you don't stop, I will spank you harder."

I couldn't say anything. I kept my mouth shut, and my gaze locked on his shoulder. I did not attempt to move. He sounded serious; that's why. I'm scared he'll follow through on his threat. That can happen, especially when he's upset.

Damon seated me in the passenger seat. When the bottom touched the seat, I even bounced. Seriously, my butt will be hurting by the end of the day because of what this man is doing to me.

I was about to speak about what he had done when he pushed his palm in front of my face. He looked at me and snarled, "I don't want to hear your whine, Roseana." He sounded like a parent reprimanding his child. I sighed quietly as he spoke.

He stepped up to the driver's seat and buckled my seatbelt for me. I watched him as he made his way to the driver’s seat. He started the engine and drove away. His knuckles are almost white from gripping the steering wheel so tightly.

"What about the groceries? Shall we just leave Martinez behind?" I asked. Damon didn't respond. His gaze is locked on the road. I'm not sure if he didn't hear me or if he's just pretending.

"Damon, aren't you going to answer my question?"

Again, I heard no answer from him. His lips didn't even move.

"You deaf, sweetheart?" I asked Damon, annoyed.

I was astonished when Damon abruptly stopped the car. I would have almost hit my head on the dashboard if I hadn't been wearing a seatbelt. I felt as if my heart was thrown out of the car from my nervousness.

"One more word from that pretty mouth of yours, Roseana, and I'll kiss you so hard it'll swell."
