Chapter 56
"Zask..." I whispered softly, my voice filled with anger.
I clenched my fists, trying to drown out the pain and anger welling up inside me. But I knew this wasn't something I could just ignore.
"He'll pay," I muttered, determination beginning to grow in my heart. "He'll regret ever playing me like this."
I sat in the corner of the room, my mind raging with various plans and scenarios. However, the hatred that continued to burn in my heart made the steps I had to take even clearer. Everything Zask had done to me had to be avenged, and this time I would not flinch.
A knock on the door broke my reverie. Before I could answer, the door opened, and Zerg walked in with his usual casual stride. His cheeky grin graced his face, but this time there was something different in his eyes, a suspicious glint of enthusiasm.
That pleasant expression on his face was not a sign that things were going well, as it was a camouflage.
"Lana," he said in a light tone, but there was firmness behind his words. "I bring good news."
Good news? I hope it's a ship that's really good for me too, not just for him. I often get irritated by this man.
I looked at him attentively, trying to read his expression. "What news?" I asked briefly, my voice remaining cold.
He grinned, then leaned closer. "The Bitfrox Crystal finally arrived on earth today."
My heart was racing. Excitement, fear, and the spirit of revenge all mixed together. This was the moment I had been waiting for, and I knew this was my only chance to avenge what Zask had done to me.
"Arrived yet?" I asked, trying to hide my excitement.
Zerg nodded. "Yes. My team has made sure the shipment is safe. The crystal is now in a hidden place, but we can access it at any time. We have to be more patient, because sending such a thing requires more effort because it is a dangerous thing for an alien nation like us."
I bit my lip, trying to hold back the small smile that almost appeared on my face. My mind immediately filled with various plans on how to use the crystal to destroy Zask.
Imagining Zask's destruction before my eyes made me even more excited.
Zerg watched my expression carefully. He tilted his head slightly and asked, "You've thought of something, haven't you? I can see that from the way you're looking at me."
I didn't answer directly. Instead, I gave a faint smile and a small nod. "I know what to do. But I need my own time to do it."
Zerg raised an eyebrow, seemingly amused by my answer. "Interesting," he said quietly. "So, what kind of plan do you have? You know, I can help if you tell me."
I gave him a sharp look, making him step back slightly. "Your job is simple, Zerg," I said firmly. "You just need to make sure everything goes according to plan. I'll let you know when the time comes."
She chuckled, seemingly pleased with my firm demeanour. "You're really starting to change, Lana," he said in a teasing tone. "I have to admit, you're pretty good at adjusting to situations."
I didn't respond to his comment. Instead, I turned my head and looked out the window, trying to think of my next move.
"So," he continued, this time in a more serious tone, "what are you going to do? You can't possibly face Zask alone, right?"
I turned to him, giving a small, meaningful smile. "That's none of your business," I replied in a flat tone.
He shrugged, seemingly satisfied with my answer. "Well, I won't press you. But I have to say, I'm increasingly impressed with the way you're dealing with all this."
I looked at him emotionlessly, but inside, I felt a little relieved. At least, I could still make Zerg believe that I was completely on his side.
However, before we could continue the conversation any further, a heavy, cold voice suddenly sounded from the door.
"What are you guys talking about?"
I froze. Zerg also looked surprised, and he immediately turned his body towards the door. There stood Zask, his sharp eyes looking at us with suspicion.
"Z-Zask," I muttered, my voice barely audible.
He stepped inside, his steps slow but full of authority. I tried to calm myself down, but my heart was pounding, afraid he'd hear something he shouldn't.
"I asked, what are you talking about?" he repeated, his gaze alternating between me and Zerg.
Zerg quickly recovered his expression, his cheeky smile returning. "Ah, Zask, you're too serious," he said casually. "I was just checking on Lana's condition. She's been looking a little weak lately, so I just wanted to make sure she was okay."
Zask looked at him coldly, not entirely believing him. He then turned his gaze to me, and I felt like I was being stabbed by his gaze.
"Lana?" he asked quietly, but there was a hidden threat behind his voice.
I tried to smile, though it was difficult. "Zerg was just... just asking about my condition," I said, trying to make my voice sound as calm as possible.
Zask remained silent for a few seconds, as if he was assessing whether I was telling the truth. Then, finally, he nodded slowly.
"Alright," he said, but his tone was still cold. "Make sure you don't get too tired, Lana. You know, your body is still recovering."
I nodded slowly, trying to hold my breath until he turned and walked out of the room.
When the door finally closed, I felt my whole body relax. I turned to Zerg, and he just chuckled, seemingly unaffected by what had just happened.
"Well, it was a little thrilling," he said in a light tone. "But don't worry, Lana. We'll get to it soon enough."
I didn't answer. Instead, I just stared at the door with mixed feelings, both fearful and determined.
