Chapter 37
I leaned back on the bed, feeling the warmth flowing through my body slowly. It felt like it was only yesterday that I drank the liquid, and although I felt nauseous at first, now there was a different sensation, almost like a wave of energy that slowly traveled throughout my body. The feeling made me jolt, as if all the weakness I had been feeling had simply vanished. Deep in my heart, I knew that perhaps this was a sign that the method recommended by the health experts was indeed working.
I felt that my stomach, which had always been nauseous and uncomfortable, now felt much calmer. My body seemed to have gained an additional strength, an energy that I had never felt before. My mind began to recall everything Zask and the health experts had said about this process. Perhaps, they were right. Maybe the liquid did have powerful properties to stabilize my body and help these fetuses survive.
On the one hand, the relief came naturally, though it felt strange for me to feel calm after doing something I had never imagined. But on the other hand, there was an anxiety that kept hanging over my heart. I realized that this wasn't a one-drink solution. if it really worked, then I would have to keep taking it until the baby was born. I would have to go through all of this over and over again, continuing to swallow the liquid until it was time to give birth.
Knowing that fact made me a little uneasy, but I tried to push those worries aside for a moment. Everything I was doing was for the sake of the fetuses inside my womb, the fetuses that I felt every time they moved, giving signs of life that made me feel alive too.
I let out a long breath, trying to regroup my resolve. It felt strange, but I was beginning to realize that what I was feeling now was the result of my decision. I must be prepared to continue this until the time comes.
The door to the room opened, and several alien medical experts entered the room. They were dressed in all-white outfits with medical tools hanging from their waists, as if ready to handle anything that might happen. One of them, the alien with silvery skin who spoke to me earlier, walked over and looked at me with large, calm violet eyes.
"Lana, how are you feeling?" he asked in a professional yet warm tone.
I smiled slightly, trying to give a soothing response. "I feel much better now. My stomach no longer feels queasy, and my body... feels different than it did before. There's definitely a change in how I feel."
He nodded, noting something on the device he was carrying. "That's good news, I hope it continues to improve in the future so there's nothing to worry about," he said as he glanced at his other colleagues, who quickly approached with scanning devices in their hands.
They began to scan my body, their device emitting a soft light that traveled from my head to my feet. I could only lie still, letting them do their work. After a while, one of them nodded in satisfaction, then looked at me with a small smile that implied satisfaction with their results.
"We will continue to monitor the progress of your health, but so far, all results show a positive response," he said, looking at me with a slightly relieved gaze. "Your body is reacting well to this method, and that is good news for the development of the fetus inside you."
I breathed a sigh of relief. Although there was a lot of worry hanging over my heart, this good news gave me some hope. At least, I didn't have to worry about the health conditions of these babies for the time being.
"Actually...," the alien continued, his voice sounding more serious, "we have had discussions with Zask. After this, you will be allowed more freedom of movement in the base. Of course, still with supervision and health protocols, but you won't have to stay in this room all the time."
Hearing that, I felt a little surprised. I was used to the restricted life inside this room, and getting permission to explore the base made my heart flutter. Even though I knew that this base was full of aliens and technology that was foreign to me, but the thought of this little freedom made me feel a little more excited.
"Really?" I asked, my voice sounding more enthusiastic than I thought it would. "I can go somewhere else?"
The alien nodded. "Yes, of course on the condition that you don't exert yourself too much. However, we feel that a little movement would be beneficial to your mental and physical health, especially now as your body begins to adjust to the changes."
I smiled with relief. After so long of only being inside this room, the idea of seeing more of this base made my heart feel lighter. Although there were still many looming worries, but at least, I knew that I had a chance to feel a bit of freedom here.
Having finished checking, the aliens went back to jotting down a few things on their devices, then prepared to leave the room. Before they left, however, one of them looked at me with a hopeful gaze.
"Lana," he said softly, "this is all a long process, but we believe that you have the strength to see it through. You've done amazing things so far, and with Zask's permission, you'll get the chance to interact more with this base. So, believe that you can do it."
I nodded, feeling a sudden rush of enthusiasm fill my heart. Their words gave me strength, and I began to feel that maybe I really could make it through. I knew that I still had a long way to go, but at least I wasn't alone. I had Zask, the medical experts, and most importantly, I had a strong desire to protect these fetuses.
After they left, I lay back down, feeling the new energy flowing through my body. I didn't know how long I could last, but I knew that I would do whatever it took for the sake of the children growing in my womb. This was a new beginning, and I would take each step with determination.
