Chapter 56
Lexton ended up staying in hospital for almost three days to recover. Doctor Yossef came and provided special care to the Alpha, until the man's condition was completely restored.
Although he wasn't able to do his usual activities right away, Lexton was definitely feeling better. His gunshot wound was no longer causing him pain, although he had to continue taking the medications prescribed by Dr. Yossef for the next few days.
During the three days that Lexton was in the hospital, Oliv was in charge of driving Aurora back and forth between the hospital and the apartment.
The girl occupied Lexton's large apartment, because that was what the Alpha had ordered.
Oliv had not yet spoken about the other room, which Abi had prepared for Aurora. The card was still in its pouch, safely tucked away in the pocket of the jacket Oliver Janson was wearing.
Just like this afternoon, Aurora asked if she could come to the hospital to pick up Lexton. But Oliv shook his head, telling her to wait at the apartment.
"You won't be alone here, Aurora," Oliv explained. "I'll leave after the other two guards arrive, and make sure not to leave the apartment no matter what."
Aurora folded her arms across her chest, pursing her lips with an annoyed facial expression aimed straight at Oliv. She wanted to come along, but he forbade her.
"Can't you take me along?" Aurora coaxed again. "It's very stuffy here, because I feel alone."
Oliv had no plans to change his mind. It was best to keep Aurora waiting at the apartment while he and the other men picked up Lexton from the hospital.
"Just wait here," Oliv said again. "And remember, make sure not to go anywhere. You need to stay inside until we arrive. We won't be long though, since Abi is already taking care of some papers at the hospital right now."
Aurora was trying her luck to get back into the fight with Oliv. But the man's hardened jaw this time was so discouraging that the young girl chose to nod her head half-heartedly.
"Alright!" She finally gave in. "Make sure you don't stay long, and come back soon."
The arrival of the other two men made Oliv finally depart from Aurora's side, leaving her in the custody of the other two burly men.
Since learning that Jovanka was no longer in Slovakia, Oliver had really taken care of security and made sure there was not a single gap for anyone who intended to disturb the peace of their organization.
Especially keeping Aurora safe, and also keeping the Alpha safe.
"I'll go first," Oliv said in a low tone of voice, greeted with a nod from Aurora who no longer gave an answer.
Just as the man turned to walk towards the door, Aurora chose to fling herself onto the sofa. Grabbing the remote of the over 50-inch television, Aurora pressed the button to watch.
At least she didn't want it to be quiet inside Lexton's apartment, and the sound of the television might drown out the silence she felt.
Hoping that Lexton would be fine when he came home, hoping that he would come home sooner rather than later.
***
Lexton sat on the edge of his hospital bed.
No longer wearing the hospital gown that had been clinging to his body for the past few days, the Alpha was back in his bright white shirt that had abstract patterns on it.
The man's body was already feeling better, and Lexton was ready to return to his former position.
The brand-name jeans that the man wore added to Lexton's masculinity, as if to obscure the fact that the man had just recovered from falling into a deep ravine.
Several lines of wounds were still visible, scattered across Lexton's face and neck. But again, that did not make Lexton lose his aura and good looks, which he had possessed since birth.
Holding his gadget in his right hand, the man was scrolling through the screen to check some incoming reports.
Due to his accident, there were several business meetings that had to be postponed. Thankfully, Lexton had a reliable management team, so everything could be resolved without causing any other problems.
The sound of knocking on the door distracted the Alpha, as he turned his head towards the source of the sound.
Finding Abi and Oliv entering simultaneously from his left, Lexton opened his voice then.
"Where's Aurora?" he asked quickly. Usually Aurora would come once a day, to spend time and talk with him.
But she hadn't shown up until this afternoon, leaving Lexton wondering about her whereabouts.
Oliv and Abi stepped closer together.
"Miss Aurora is safe in the apartment, sir," Oliv said in answer to the question, followed by a nod.
"You didn't leave her alone, did you?" Lexton cautioned, not wanting anything bad to happen to the woman.
"She's safe with our two fighters," Oliv replied again. "You want us to leave now?"
Lexton glanced briefly at his smartphone, before deciding to stow the electronic device in his pants pocket. There were still a few more documents that needed to be reviewed online, but it seemed like something he could do while they were on the road.
Just as Aurora was probably waiting for him there, Lexton wanted to get back to his apartment as soon as possible.
Hospitals never made him feel at home, as the smell of medicine was so overpowering.
"Did you take care of everything?" Lexton's voice filled the air, followed by Oliv's nod later.
"Abi will prepare the car downstairs," Oliv said again.
Lexton nodded faintly, moving slowly to get off his bed now. Oliv instructed Abi to have the young man prepare the car downstairs, as he herself stepped closer to Lexton.
Keeping a safe distance, Oliv noticed how Lexton was now able to stand upright.
"Oliver."
Oliv took two steps forward, to get closer to the Alpha.
"Yes, sir?"
Lexton seemed to think for a moment. The man's eyeballs rolled, followed by a medium-volume dejection later.
"You haven't arranged a room for Aurora yet, have you?" Lexton lowered the tone of his voice this time, as if he was worried that someone else might have eavesdropped on his question just now.
Oliv was stunned for a few seconds. Staring into Lexton's eyeballs, the man had yet to make a sound.
"No need to open a room for Aurora," Lexton continued later. "My apartment is big enough, and we'll only be staying a few more days before we go back."
Oliv still pursed his lips tightly, keeping his radar high to understand where the clan leader was going with this.
"So, let Aurora stay in my apartment, and you take care of yourself with Abi."
The order was quite clear. Oliv nodded his head, as a gesture that the man understood what he had to do.
The Alpha flashed a faint smile, patting Oliv's shoulder with his right hand as he stepped away.
"You made the right decision bringing her here, Oliv," Lexton praised. "At least she'll be safe if she's always with us."
Lexton swung back into action, leaving Oliv still standing where he was.
"Thank you, sir," the man said respectfully. Oliv bowed his head in respect as usual, though Lexton no longer turned around to see the gesture.
Already reaching for the door handle, Lexton did not slacken his pace at all.
Oliver followed shortly after, as his one hand reached into the pocket of the jacket he was wearing.
Lexton was already walking down the hospital hallway, when Oliv stopped right next to the trash can next to the door.
Pulling out an object from his jacket pocket, the man looked at the pouch that still had cards in it.
With a quick movement, Oliv threw the pouch into the trash can. His black eyes stared straight for a few seconds at the pouch that now lay there, before he resumed his delayed steps.
Putting a smile on the corner of his lips, Oliv followed Lexton's footsteps.
'I was right,' the man thought. 'Abi is just wasting money, because Aurora doesn't need that room.'
