Chapter 92 Leaving her behind
AXEL
Lisa's father had thought that I was merely blabbing when I told him what state his daughter was in because I'd hesitated when he requested a video call. Well, I was about to show him that he didn't have any playing cards against me this time around.
I stood against a wall in the basement of the safe house and watched as one of the guards brought a bloodied Lisa in. There was an empty chair that stood in the middle of the huge basement that was mostly empty and they walked toward it as soon as they entered the room.
I watched her very closely as she sat in the chair without so much of a fuss, some ropes drooped slowly around the chair to serve as a restriction for whoever was placed in it. I noticed how her eyes randomly juggled between the guard who'd started trying her up and myself.
She looked weak and downtrodden as she let the guard pull her hands behind her and tie them up, her eyes were bloodshot and empty like her spirits had been crushed. After a while, the guard moved to her legs and tied them securely as well before tying another thick rope around her waist.
There seemed to be signs of blood everywhere on her clothes and some stubborn blood stains that had gotten stuck on her. She'd lost some weight which could be easily attributed to how she always picked at her meals instead of eating them properly, but I couldn't care less about her feeding habits as long as she ate.
I had kept my eyes trained on her for some reason, and I was so focused on her that I almost didn't notice the guard who'd bound her when he shot a bow my way to signify that he'd securely tied her up as I'd asked him to.
I nodded his way and shot him a thumbs up, the stage was finally set to put a call through to Volkov and have him on his knees completely. I signaled for the guard to leave the room after I'd observed the job he'd done, and I dimmed the lights as well for the final touches.
I'd specifically chosen the basement for the video call because it was neutral ground, there was no distinct object or anything that would give anyone the slightest hint as to where we'd been hiding out, which was best.
For all I cared, I'd even rather have her father thinking that we're somewhere in the city or its surrounding outskirts. After I'd inspected our surroundings for clues and I was satisfied that there were none, I moved away from my spot on the wall and walked towards her.
There was a laptop that had been placed directly in front of her and her father was on speed dial as I'd requested. I connected the laptop to the power source and turned it on to adjust the frame before I placed the call.
Immediately I'd made sure of that, I placed a video call through to Lisa's father and his face appeared on the screen in literal seconds. I saw how his eyes widened upon seeing the state his daughter was in and a sly smile crept across my face.
Lisa, on the other hand, tried to speak to her father but she ended up only choking out incomprehensible words that confused and worried lines to become visible on her father's face. But before he could make meaning of her words, I quickly disconnected the video call and shut the laptop.
As if on cue, my cell phone back fan vibrated in my pocket immediately after I'd ended the video call and I smiled to myself proudly because I knew who'd be calling. To get on his nerves further, I decided to let it ring for a while before I retrieved my cell phone from my pocket.
Immediately I picked up the call, I heard him screaming at the top of his voice and I could barely stop myself from laughing at his gullibility.
"Bastard, fucking bastard- that's what you are. Asshole, who the fuck do you think you are? fool, that's who." He screamed at the top of his voice and I could hear him banging hard against the surface, but none of what he said had caused me to flinch.
"Breathe, princess. What's got your panties in a twist this time around?" I finally let out the laughter I'd been holding while he insulted me angrily.
I heard him literally huff and puff after I laughed at his reaction and that did no good in helping me stifle how much laughter I still had bottled up.
"If you don't fucking stop torturing my daughter this very minute, you'll regret it!" He yelled again and I shook my head on my end at his empty threats.
"I'll burn down all of your businesses and I'll make sure you rue the day you ever crossed paths with me" He kept yelling angrily at the top of his voice but it did nothing to deter me, I also genuinely didn't give a shit what he did.
"Okay, great. Go ahead and do whatever pleases you if that'll untwist your panties" I teased him because I knew just how much I'd gotten under his skin and it intrigued me to push past his limits.
"While you're having a blast doing your bidding, I can assure you that if you don't return the shipment you stole, I'll keep sending more of Lisa's body parts until there's none left," I said nonchalantly while he sighed impatiently on the other end of the line.
"The ball's in your court, you'd better hurry up and do the needful because things escalate beyond your control" I finished my sentence with a cocky tone that I made sure he'd notice, I'd suddenly developed an unusual flair for the dramatics.
"Oh well, you might've been callous enough to torture Lisa but we both know that you'll never be capable of taking her life no matter what." He said in a tone that was supposed to come off as bold, but he just seemed like he'd been trying to stall by making that absurd assumption.
"That's what we're going with now yeah? You're grasping at straws of hope that don't exist and it makes you seem pathetic" I smirked and chuckled slowly, I'd somehow been unable to stop myself from laughing throughout the call while he'd kept getting triggered as I spoke.
"I mean, mere hours ago you could've sworn on everything you held dear that I'd never be able to torture her, but look where we're at now-debating her death," I said in a cynical tone while he kept on breathing heavily down the receiver like boiling with fury has done him any good so far.
"Well, that's bull-"
I ended the call as he began to form another sentence because I couldn't stand much more of his yelling and whining when he clearly had no advantage over me. Frankly, it'd started to bore me to death already because of how easily I could trigger him and predict his reactions.
After that heated conversation, I needed a moment to rearrange my thought process and focus my energy elsewhere until he'd met my demands. I took a deep breath and turned to look at Lisa where she'd been seated.
During the call, I'd briefly forgotten that she was still in the basement with me while I spoke to her father. As our eyes met, I noticed that she looked teary for some reason but u didn't bother me with asking, I couldn't let her distract me now.
She'd also easily untied the ropes that bound her which proved that they were tied loosely earlier. As I observed her quietly, she didn't take her eyes off me either but I didn't let it mean anything to me,
it was just a stare- I've been staring for no reason my entire life.
"Do you think you c-" She began but I genuinely didn't care what she'd been trying to get at.
"No. Just, No." I told her off coldly and stormed out of the basement, leaving her. Maybe she took my stares as an invitation to start a conversation with me, but it sure as hell wasn't.
She'd already known too much about how I felt, and she'd found out against my will but I wasn't going to let her get any closer to me, it was still way too fucking hard too.
My wounds were still sore from her betrayal.
