Chapter 19: ~ Samantha contd
He came even closer and with that infuriating smoldering smirk looked deeply into my eyes. “So I distract ye Dr. Thornsdale?” Placing his hand cupping my face he caressed me cheek with his thumb.
“How do you always do this? Every time I want to be angry at you or make you see things my way you distract me, yet again, with that insufferable look in your eyes? There is really no way to get into a serious conversation with you is it?” I leaned into his caress.
“Samantha…” That is all he had time to say, I had arrived at my floor and as he was to say something I walked out. Before the doors closed I turned to him and gave him a wink.
Under normal circumstances it takes little time for me to take a complete shower, oiled up my skin, put on a little black dress and some makeup, but with state of my ribs it took me longer. I was about to put on my shoes when there was a knock on the door. I hopped, with some pain, towards the door and opened it to find Lachlan unshaved, beautifully dressed in just a white shirt, form fitting jeans and a blue blazer. This man was pure perfection he could wear just about anything and still look good.
He looked me over and stopped when he saw that I had but one shoe on. Without a word he took the pump from my hands and kneeled before me. He gently caressed my leg until he reached my ankle and slid the black pump on. I dropped down my leg. He moved forward and lifted up the hem of my dress revealing a little more of my legs.
I could not breathe properly when I saw his eyes look deeply into mine. He leaned further in and placed a kiss on the inside of my thigh just above the knee. Looking up he smiled and asked, “Stauckings?” Frozen by the look he gave me I just simply nodded.
His only reply was to move his hands higher. Clever fingers brushed over the garter belt that held tightly my stockings. At the touch of the silky belt his eyes grew wide with lust.
A phone rang and for once it was not mine. Looking at his phone Lachlan cursed and continued to caress my thigh.
I could see the frustration in his eyes as he said, “Higgins is waiting for us downstairs. If we do nae move now I will nae be able to hold complete control of my actions, but I promise ye this…” He continued to caress lightly my exposed skin, “…this is nae over.” He quickly put his phone in the inside pocket of his jacket.
I grabbed his hand in mine, gave it a gentle squeeze and before moving past him I said, “Promises…promises.”
I could sense that during the elevator ride and even through the limo drive Lachlan was trying his best to keep a tight grip on his control. Luckily the trip to the restaurant did not take long and upon arriving Lachlan got out and helped me out after him. He gently entwined his fingers with mine and we walked to the entrance, where a porter opened the doors and Lachlan kindly thanked him.
To the right of the entrance was the hostess’ stand and behind it was the bar. Lachlan, before he could ask for our table, was greeted by Tevin and a beautiful young woman. They came in through the same doors we had crossed just a few moments before.
“Daniel!”
“Aaron! Rebecca ye look lovely, sweetheart!” He shook his brother’s hand and placed a gentle kiss on his sister’s cheek before turning to me and presenting me to his sister.
“How are you feeling Doc? Better?”
“Bruised, but not broken. Will be better in no time at all.” I smiled lightly.
Rebecca eyed me up and down and when she reached my eyes gave me the Douglass smile. “Pleased to meet you Samantha. Grace did mention you were beautiful, but I did not know she meant gorgeous.”
“Why thank you. I am sorry to impose myself to your family dinner.”
“Not at all. It is a simple dinner between us siblings. We are just meeting to figure out what we will do.”
While Rebecca and I discussed amongst ourselves, Lachlan was able to get our table. We would wait for Gordian and Kendrick in a private dining room set for us. A drink while we wait was ordered and I was seated between Rebecca and Lachlan. At the same time that our drinks were brought to our table, Jay walked in excusing himself for being late.
We order our entrees, main dishes and desserts and continued getting to know each other. It was quickly decided that their parent’s anniversary would take place at one of the most conservative nightclubs owned by the family. They would privatize it especially for the event. Invitations would be sent out within the coming week. I was invited to join them for the happy occasion.
“Sam, may I call you Sam?” Asked Rebecca.
“Of course.” I couldn’t help but smile. She had this beautiful energy and kindness that I hadn’t seen in a long time.
“So Sam were you ever married?”
“Kenzy! Dè fo Shealbh (What the fuck)” Lachlan outraged by Rebecca’s question, I did not see anything wrong by it. It was a normal question. She was just trying to size me up.
“Stop looking at see like that. What?? You might know, but we don’t. Oh get off your high horse Danny.”
I laughed. Here was a dainty young woman and she made the law between her and her brothers. I could easily see all of them playing and this little girl handling her brothers like nothing. Like a little princess with her loyal subjects. I liked her. I truly did.
A ding rang and Jay looked at his phone. “It seems Ben is not coming tonight. He’s in a meeting with Dad, but asks that we continue with the preparations and keep him informed.”
For the next couple of minutes, I gave small details of my private and professional life. When I came to David’s death Rebecca placed her hand on mine and looked into my eyes with real emotion. I’m not one to spread my life out to just anyone, but like Lachlan, his brothers and sister were genuine and I was at ease to them and was able to let go.
“I don’t remember ye telling me what he’s specialty is.” Asked Lachlan after some time.
I wanted to laugh, but I knew Lachlan will not. “Oncology.”
His eyes changed colors and I was able to see the anger in them. It was the same anger I have had for the past 6 years. Rebecca gasped and covered her mouth. As for Tevin and Gordian they just sat there confused.
“Are ye serious? And…and? A dhìteadh (be damned), God I don’t even know what to say. I just cannot believe a man specializing in oncology was nae capable to see to his own son. A dhìteadh (be damned), I’m even more surprised that ye are nae more scandalized than this. What kind of mother are ye?” As his anger got stronger his Scottish accent got thicker.
I always hated when people told me how I was supposed to feel or how I should act. And as much as I liked these people and would not like to embarrass Lachlan in front of his family, I could not keep quiet.
“That is just it Mr. Douglass. I am not a mother…I’m no longer one. There are things that I have gone through these past 6 years that you do not have a clue. We just met not even 24 hours ago. Who do you think you are to tell me how I should feel? I would rip his heart out if I could…just like he did mine when…when he didn’t show up. But no matter what I do it will never…NEVER bring my children back.” I was standing by now. The lovely dinner we were having was at an end before we could ever finish our main course.
Gathering my things, I heard a phone ring.
“Ye got to be fauckin’ kiddin’ me. Air sgà th fuck (for fuck’s sake). Can he just for once leave ye alone?”
I opened my hand bag and checked my phone. “It’s not mine.” I whispered.
Putting my phone back I look up and saw Lachlan on his phone.
Surprised he took his phone out of his pocket and emediately accepted the call. “Athair? (Dad)” He got up and started pacing the room. “What do ye mean? Is she all right?”
