Chapter 56 Cleared!!
Adrian's POV.
Dennis invited me for tea but after those few words he said, everything ended up in silence.
His gaze was fixed on his phone while I looked at him while sipping the tea.
A few minutes later, he brought his face to me, turning his phone screen for me to see even though I couldn't see anything.
“She deleted the post,” he laughed. “Your ex is really a crazy fellow.”
“I know she needs to be locked up,” I sighed. He wasn't the only one thinking she's crazy, I also shared that idea.
“I'll leave now.” I dropped the cup of tea on the table and stood up immediately. “I’ve sorted this out thanks to you.”
“C'mon man, I did nothing.”
I walked to him, patted his shoulder and walked towards the door.
“If she contacts you again,” I paused. “Tell her I'll visit her with my wife soon.”
We both know who we were talking about. There was no third party, there was no need to be specific.
I walked into the elevator and a few minutes later, I was walking out of the building.
I returned to my company and people murmured about the interview that had just been concluded but I paid no attention to any of them.
I sat quietly behind my desk, my hand on my mouse as I navigated through my laptop.
A commotion outside got my eyes moving towards the door and I sighted her, Cassandra.
She was trying to get through. My assistant and two guards tried all they could to make sure she didn't pass.
“How the fuck did she end up being such a headache,” I groaned to myself.
I called my assistant and he picked up without wasting a second.
“What's happening outside?” I asked the obvious.
Cassandra had barged into my company and was trying to do the same to my office, that was the obvious thing happening outside.
“Miss Cassandra is here,” he said. “We'll have her leave as soon as we can.”
“Why wasn't she stopped at the lobby? How the hell was she able to make it to the top floor?”
My face got laced with a frown, my forehead creased.
“We are sorry, sir. We'll get her out now.”
I ended the call without another word and checked the CCTV footage of the lobby before anything else.
I saw when Cassandra walked in. She had a talk with the receptionist who dismissed her after recognizing her. She didn't leave, she only moved to the checkpoint to talk with the guards.
They didn't let her in and she jumped over the card check barricade.
I dropped the tablet and groaned. She's crazy, showing how crazier she could get as hours count.
I called my assistant again. “Let her be. Show her into the office.”
He wanted to protest but I didn't let him. Two minutes was all it took for Cassandra to open the door to my office, storming inside like she was the sponsor of this damn company.
“You humiliated me, Adrian!” She said breathlessly.
I leaned back into my chair, swirling the chair around and crossing my hands, a sly smirk on my face.
“And you underestimated me,” I replied, swift and sharp.
Her fists curled around her bag. “I'll make sure you regret this, Adrian!” She spat.
I laughed, the laugh lasting only for some seconds. “I recall hearing you say that earlier today but nothing happened.”
“Look, Cassandra,” I leaned into the table. “If you are truly pregnant, congratulations.”
“However, if you attach my name to any false claims or fraudulent act, then I won't stop at calling you out publicly.” I paused, letting the words sink into her ears. “I'll do worse, Cassandra and you know I fucking mean that,”
She couldn't say a word, she only stood frozen, staring at me with her eyes filled with venom.
Her chest rose and fell quickly, showing how restless and angry she was. But she could do nothing, not when it's against me.
“Leave, Cassandra,” I said. “I still have a little bit of respect for you, I won't want to have the guards drag you out.”
“You've been humiliated enough,” I added.
Those words made her anger rise more and I could see it.
“I mean it, Adrian. I will make sure you regret this,” she said.
“Try,” my voice was cold and commanding. “Let's see what you've got.”
She turned and stormed out of the office, the door slamming after her.
I put a call across to my assistant again.
“The next time that girl gets through the checkpoint without my permission, you lose your job,” I said. “Relay that to the guards at the checkpoint.”
I ended the call and stood up. I was done with today's work. Thanks to Cassandra who was able to find her way here to piss me off further with her face.
I headed back home and got into the house. Evelyn was seated in the sitting room, legs crossed but she was doing nothing.
When I walked in, our eyes locked. She said nothing and I was the first to speak up.
“You surely must have seen the news,” I said. “I cleared the misunderstanding about Cassandra and I.”
I didn't know why I was explaining to her but I wanted her to know if she had not checked it.
She smirked. “Of course, I saw it,” she said.
“You really looked like you care about your reputation more than the safety of your wife,” she said and that made me squint.
What does she mean?
“You had time to find evidence to clear your pregnancy scandal but not time to find out who tried to kill me with poisoned bread?”
She stood up and shook her head, wanting to head upstairs when I grabbed her hand, my hand getting wrapped around her waist as I pulled her close to myself.
“And how are you so sure about that, sweetheart?”
