Chapter 19: Nineteen
Xavier
“So Mr Grey, what do you have to say about this?” The principal asked.
I went silent for a moment, completely confused, that video wasn’t what happened at Andre’s party, how come we are seeing a different thing. And I thought I paid Ria to clear all the videos up.
“This wasn’t how it happened actually,” I said simply.
She adjusted her glasses to the bridge of her nose,“Then can you please explain.”
“After we played a game, someone pushed her into the pool and then I went to rescue her,” I said simply, regretting the fact that I shouldn’t have talked about the game.
“What game Mr Grey?”
I saw it coming.
“Uhmm, just a regular party game,” I answered. I knew everything here was being recorded and
My Father seeing that I agreed to playing the truth and dare game will only make matters worse. It is one thing for him to see for himself and me agreeing to it is another case on its own
“Okay,it seems you are covering up for her, next person,” she called.
I sigh in relief, I’m glad she didn’t ask further. She asked Andre, Anaya and other student and they also answered the same thing. While Cassie and some other students confirm the video which made me wonder if they attended the party at all.
But for Cassie, I know what she can do, this might just be another of her games.
The meeting was adjourn and Kimberly was meant to stay on school detention, which means wearing the detention wear and also doing some minor labour around school.
It was time for my P.E and I went to change into my track wear.
We started with warming up, the new inductees were just doing basic training , they were walking high knees, some were doing butt kicks and lunges . Most of them were juniors.Mr Martins came and they were dismissed. It was now time for us the senior team to practice.
We started with A-skip drills and my gaze kept on shifting to Mr Martins; he didn't even talk about the drug test. He was just there standing on the line, folding his arms and using one finger tapping to tap the Bridge of his nose.
Riley gaze shifted to me, like he knew what was going on in my mind. We were put in pairs to sprint and a timer was set. Mr martins blew the whistle and we started sprinting. As I ran through the track, my mind wasn’t in the field at all. It kept wandering on how my name was found in the drug test list.
Mr martins blew the whistle to call it off as and end of the race just when my sprint partner also reached the finish line. It was then I realised I was metres away from him. Which on a usual day he’d be way behind me.
I stood right at the spot where I heard the whistle, bending over and placing my hands on my knees, I was panting heavily which made me wonder because I didn’t even do anything.
Mr Martins walked up to me,“Xavier,” he called.
I raised up my head slowly to look at him.
“ What’s wrong with you?” He questioned.
I didn’t say a word, this wasn’t the usual way my Coach will talk to me, normally, after every sprint, he always walked up to me and tell me “Good job, son, you’re always making me proud.”
And not this.
His gaze lingered on me for a moment.
“Your performance has dropped, your were supposed to reach the finsh like in 15 minutes and I set you up with someone who is still baby in this game and you couldn’t even pass him Xavier,” he rambled.
I still didn’t say anything, I just stood there my eyes fixed on him, like he was a monument or something.
He kept on rambling something, but I could only see his mouth moved. I couldn’t hear anything he was saying anymore. My mind wavered, this is the first time something like this is Happening.
Mr Martins has never called me out on anything like this, I was always the star player that everyone looked up to, I was seen as someone that will never make any mistake, I was “too good” to everyone and even to myself.
And just the first time I’m making one mistake and it seemed like I had done something completely horrible. Like can’t he just give me grace, I’m human too, I can’t be perfect. This is the first time I am having a crack in the image my father worships.
I pray he shouldn’t hear about this, to him I can always be perfect.
“And about the drug test,” Mr martins said simply, his gaze lingering on me.
My heart thudded and my mind wavered back to what he was saying.
I swallowed hard,“I don’t know about that, I don’t do drugs.”
“Your name was on the list Xavier, i need you to just tell me the,” he said calmly, leaning closer to me.
“Mr martins, I’m saying the truth, i honestly don’t know how that happened, I’m confused as well,” I said simply.
He sighed, leaning in more closely, he put one hand on my shoulder.
“You know your Dad Xavier, you know what happens if he hears about this,” he said calmly and then he started walking away.
I know what that means already. I really hope he doesn't just take the news like that but do a proper investigation.
I decided to change back into my uniform and when I walked in the hallway. I sighted her, she was in the detention wear and with a broom, one of the teachers was also there.
“You bettter be fast with that before students start to troop in, P.E is over,” she said, checking her wristwatch.
Kimberly continue sweeping without uttering a word.
Thn she raised up her head, her face look tired and pale,“Ma’am please can I take a break after this?”
The teacher rolled her head back, “Uh, it’s like you really did not know how your scholarship is at stake.”
Kimberly’s shoulders slumped and then she continued.
I summoned courage and started walking over there.
“Let’s do this,” I said as I cracked my shoulders.
“Hey Mrs Han,” I smiled.
“Hi Xavierrr,” she smiled back, drawing out my name.
“Don’t you think she needs a break? You know serving detention isn’t a death sentence,” I shrugged.
“Yeah, sure of course, you’re right,” she said simply, smiling.
Hypocrite!
“You can go now Miss Kimberly,” she said.
“Why am I even helping her,” I muttered to myself as I walked away.
After class, I decided to go to the Art studio, on my way I saw Kimberly again, this time Andre was there too, they were talking, it seems more like they were arguing but not that kind of heated argument.
“Let me help you with those,” he said to her trying to take the bucket from her.
“No don’t bother,” she said, hiding the bucket behind her.
I tightened my fist, and my face marred into a deep frown.
Just then I received a notification from my phone. I picked it up to see.
A message from One of my dad assistants:
“What’s your involvement with her?”
Fuck! My Father already knows? How?
