Chapter 10: Ten
Kimberly.
As I walked to the library, what happened in that empty classroom kept playing in my mind. His hands on my waist, the way he looks at me so carefully.
Why did he even come to stop me from going to the principal’s office? What was he protecting me from ? No one has genuinely cared for me like that . I shouldn’t give him that space , he has a girlfriend . He should have a plan. Maybe that’s why he helped me. I don’t even trust him, I don’t even trust any of them.
I found a distant place to sit at the library, and I picked up an history book.
I was subconsciously flipping the pages, while just staring blankly at the book. My mind wasn’t here at all.
I heaved a deep sigh.
“Forget about him, he doesn’t like you at all,” I muttered to myself.
“ If Someone doesn’t like you, then you have to like yourself, That’s self love right?”a deep baritone but sweet voice said beside me.
I gasped, my hand flew to my chest and then I turned to look at my side, then I realised he was sitting close to me.For how long though?
“Sorry,” he muttered and then chuckled.
My eyes widened in surprise,“You have been here?”
“Yeah, came to sit with you just a few minutes after you entered the library,” he answered simply.
“You’re reading history,” he said, his gaze shifted to the book on the table.
“Yeah, it’s my favourite subject,” I said, smiling softly.
“Me too,” he chuckled.
“So what’s your favourite history story?” He questioned.
“ huh, I really do not have one to be honest, but I love the first and second world wars,” I said simply.
“ Wow!” He exclaimed, tilting his head back a little, like he was taken aback,“Me too, does that make us … I mean we have something in common don’t we?” He chuckled.
“Yeah, yeah,” I smiled nervously.
“I’m Andre by the way,” he said, stretching out his hand for a handshake.
“I’m Kimberly ,” I said simply, with a subtle smile.
“Oh you’re the new girl on …’
“Yeah, yeah,” I quickly answered, not wanting him to add the last part, because Grey high students never ceases the opportunity to remind me of my scholarship here, like it was a taboo to be on a scholarship. I don’t want to believe that he was any different, even though he seems nice.
“Nice to meet you Kimberly ,” he smiled.
“Nice to meet you too.”
“ I’m going home now, I have to go prepare for something,” he said and started getting up to leave.
“Alright,” I nodded.
I buried my head in my book again, still trying to focus.
I was finally able to focus and started studying.
The evening was approaching and people began to leave the library one after the other.
It was then remaining only me in the library.
I stretched and yawned and then walked over to the library’s locker and arranged my books in my back pack.
I walked to the door , I turned the knob of the door, but the door refused to open, I looked at the top of the door, and shifted back a little. What’s wrong?
I turned the knob again and then I forcefully repeated the pattern but still, the door didn’t open.
“What the fuck!” I cussed.
“Is anybody there?” I yelled. But there was no answer.
“Please someone help me to open the door,” I shouted, while repeatedly banging at the door.
There was still no answer.
Is that how I will be here for today? Geez! I have to go home. I’m famished.
I tried to pull the door knob. While grunting and panting heavily. I picked up my phone from my bag about to dial my mum’s number when my eyes darted all over the place as they landed on another door.
My eyes glistened in satisfaction. I quickly ran to the other door.
“Thank God!” I muttered and turned the door knob.
Just as the door opened a heavy small metal rod landed on my phone screen, making my phone have cracks all over.
I gasped,“ oh no!”
My fingers hovered on the phone screen, as I tried to straighten it out as if that would help.
I started panting , my body was shaking and tears stung at the back of my eyes.
My mum used almost all her salary to get me this phone. Now what am I going to tell her? How will I even be able to get another one?
“ No no no no, this can’t be happening right now,” I panicked.
I started walking outside through the hallway of the library and then I realised the main door of the library was even locked.
This will be the hardest. The hallway was so dark.
My footsteps echoed as I walked through the dark hallway, trying to figure my way out. My
My heart was pounding heavily, sounding like it might burst out of my chest.
I heard footsteps approaching from behind me.
“ Hello, is anyone there?” My voice came out shaky, panic rising in my chest . There was no answer .
I didn’t even know if it was real or just my imagination.
I tried to turn on my phone light, but the cracked screen flickered.
“Calm down Kimberly, everything will be alright, do not panic,” I whispered to myself.
I swallowed hard and quickly moved forward, my breath coming out in short gasps. I tried to open the door again and luckily for me,it opened this time.
The cool air hit my face and relief washed over me, my shoulders sagging at my side as I heaved a deep sigh.
As I stepped forward my leg stumbled on something, I lost my balance and I fell with my butt to the floor.Pain shooting up on my ankles instantly.
I winced , clutching my ankle tightly as tears streamed freely down my face.
I tried to stand, but I couldn’t and then I sat there helplessly.
The only thought that echoed through my mind was that Xavier had warned me.
