Yvonne was so furious, she couldn’t even think straight.
When had she ever been humiliated like this?
It was only thanks to the terrified Susan, who dragged her away in disgrace, that the two finally left the Hawksley estate.
Once they were gone, the air in the room felt lighter, as if someone had opened all the windows and let in a fresh breeze.
Edith sat beside Justin, and after a moment’s thought, she broke the silence. “You’re not curious about what happened with Susan? About why I slapped her?”
Justin arched a brow, an easy, indifferent look in his eyes. “There’s nothing to ask. Yvonne showed me the security footage from the Victoria’s Secret store. I couldn’t make out exactly what Susan said, but for her to push you that far, it must have been something truly vile.”
So Yvonne had actually copied the footage from the store?
She’d really come prepared.
Edith had been expecting to explain herself, to justify that slap. She hadn’t anticipated that Justin wouldn’t even want to hear it.
A strong, warm arm wrapped around her waist, Justin’s hand pressing gently against
her side.
With the slightest pull, Edith was drawn closer to him.
Now, so close she could feel his breath stirring the fine hairs at her forehead, her heart skipped a beat.
He leaned down, his lips almost grazing her skin, his voice husky and teasing, “So, what did you want to buy at Victoria’s Secret?”
Only then did Edith realize the awkward question hidden in all of this.
The security footage had come from Victoria’s Secret. So what exactly had she been doing there?
Before she could come up with an answer, Justin murmured, “Didn’t find anything you liked in your closet?”
Edith’s cheeks burned as she shook her head. “No…”

Chapter 166
They were so close now, she felt as if all the air was being pulled away.
That had to be it. That was why she was blushing so furiously.
Justin frowned, thinking for a moment. “Makes sense. Everything in there’s so plain. I’ll have the brand send over a new collection. Something a little more daring.”
Now she really couldn’t breathe.
If she stayed this close to Justin any longer, she was sure she’d suffocate.
She pried his hand from her waist. “Um… I need to use the restroom.”
But Justin wasn’t about to let her go that easily. Instead, he pressed her back against the sofa, locking eyes with her, taking in her blush with unabashed amusement.
He thought she was even more breathtaking than the summer sunsets over Northcrest.
“What color do you like? No, wait–what color do I like?” he mused, as if truly considering it, then decided with a smirk, “Actually, whatever you wear, I’ll love it.”
Edith squeezed her eyes shut, heart thundering, certain it might leap right out of her
chest.
Teasing her like this was just too much fun.
But Justin knew when to stop.
He let go of her. “Go on. Didn’t you say you needed the bathroom?”
Edith bolted, practically running for the hallway.
When she came out, Justin was on the phone, his expression serious–clearly a work
call.
Not wanting to disturb him, Edith quietly slipped off to the study.
Tomorrow, she’d be volunteering to do a mural at Riverbend Zoo,
She hadn’t picked up a paintbrush in years, and last–minute cramming wouldn’t help much now.
But she could at least brush up on some graffiti techniques.
Justin’s call was from his assistant.
Apparently, Beckett was causing trouble at Hawksley Tower again.
