The man frowned and seemed to be very dissatisfied. “What happened?”
Jeremy immediately walked over and greeted him, “Mr. Roberts.”
“Who was arguing here just now?” Tim asked.
“This designer came here for an interview,” Jeremy said, pointing at Estelle. “She is Mr. Hans’...” Before he could say the word “ex-girlfriend”, Tim motioned him to stop talking.
Tim looked Estelle up and down and asked suspiciously, “You’re here for an interview?”
“Yes,” Estelle replied to him politely and stood straight. “I’m here to apply for the job as a designer. My name is Estelle.”
Hearing her, Tim suddenly sneered. “You’re a designer? If you didn’t tell me, I thought you were here to apply for the job as a cleaner.”
Jeremy immediately said, “Mr. Roberts, this designer, is Mr. Hans’ ex-girlfriend. Mr. Hans is a very important client for us, and he placed a big order. If she can join our company, we’ll be able to close the deal soon.”
“I don’t care who she is,” Tim said coldly. “My principle of running the company is to attract customers with excellent design, not relying on this kind of nepotism to make profits. She’s Mr. Hans’ ex-girlfriend, so what? Even if Mr. Hans’ current girlfriend comes here to apply for a job but is not competent enough, I will reject her immediately. I don’t need the so-called big order. I don’t lack money.”
“Mr. Roberts, listen to me, please. You are indeed a pillar in the jewellery industry, but running a company requires professionalism and strategy. Recently, a lot of designers have designed fine jewellery, and many customers have been taken away. But If we lose such a big client like Mr. Hans, our company will suffer huge losses!” Jeremy said anxiously.
However, Tim, who was proud and stubborn, didn’t listen to him at all. Instead, he looked at Estelle disgustedly and said, “You can go now. I don’t need an employee who tries to join my company by improper means.”
Jeremy still wanted to persuade him, “Mr. Roberts...”
“Shut up!” Tim couldn’t stand it anymore and interrupted him. “No one can change my mind. Get her out of here. I’ll give you ten minutes. If she is still here ten minutes later, you will be fired. Got it?”
Hearing this, Jeremy didn’t dare to persuade him anymore.
He sighed and said to Estelle, “Miss Hudson, I’m sorry. As you’ve heard, Mr. Roberts hates nepotism and attaches more importance to a designer’s professionalism. You may have to find another job.”
“Wait a minute.” Estelle took a deep breath and said, “Mr. Roberts, I can understand your strict standard in recruiting designers and your strict rules in picking jewellery designs for your valued clients. But I have nothing to do with Mr. Hans now. Please give me a chance to work here. If you are not satisfied with my designs, I will leave immediately and never bother you again.”
Hearing this, Tim raised his eyebrows and looked at her, “Your designs? Can you really design jewellery?”
“Mr. Roberts, give me a chance, please,” Estelle pleaded sincerely.
Tim still looked at her with his face full of dislike and distrust, “You are a designer, but you dress up like this. How can I believe that you can make beautiful jewellery designs? Gold, silver, and jade are not like cloth. If a cloth is broken, you just need to change a piece of cloth or cut it into another style. But if jade is not well designed, the whole piece of it will be destroyed.”
Estelle looked down at her dress and was confused.
‘Didn’t Rebecca say that the boss of the company doesn’t like beautiful women the most? I specially dressed myself up like this, but why is he still dissatisfied with my appearance?’
“Mr. Roberts, my appearance has nothing to do with my design capability,” she responded.
Tim chuckled and said, “You’re so persistent. Okay, I’ll give you a chance. Come here at nine o’clock tomorrow morning.”
Hearing that, Estelle was pleasantly surprised. “Thank you, Mr. Roberts!”
“There’s no need to thank me. I’m very strict. You should know that I have fired many top designers in this industry,” Tim warned her.
“Yes, I’ve heard about it.” Estelle nodded.
“You seem to be very confident in yourself, don’t you?”
“No. But I need this job. I will try my best,” Estelle took a deep breath and said firmly.
“You are short of money?” Tim asked.
Estelle nodded and said in embarrassment, “Yes.”
Tim looked at her faded old clothes and said, “I can see that.”
“I’m sorry. I’ll be properly dressed tomorrow,” Estelle assured him.
Tim said with a meaningful look, “I’m wondering if you will threaten the safety of the jade and gold in our company since you lack money.”
His words were a bit hurtful. However, Estelle didn’t take his words seriously and didn’t get angry.
In her mind, jewellery design belonged to the art industry, and the designers were all artists. It was normal that an artist like Tim had an odd character. Besides, she could see that although Tim was difficult, he was a good designer.
“Mr. Roberts, I’ll only be responsible for designing. Cutting jade and gold is the work of craftsmen. You don’t have to worry about it,” Estelle replied to him.
Tim raised his eyebrows and said with a faint smile, “Can I believe you? You are quite funny. If you can’t meet my standard and can’t work as an efficient designer, I’ll consider hiring you as a cleaner here, for mercy’s sake.”
Estelle arrived at Only Love Jewelry company at half past eight the following day.
She had changed her clothes, but they were just a little bit better than what she wore yesterday. She hadn’t bought new clothes for six years and had no new clothes.
Thinking of Rebecca’s advice, Estelle didn’t dress up and especially put on her black-framed glasses before going out.
Yesterday, although Tim showed his dislike for her shabby clothes, he still gave her a chance for an interview, which showed that Rebecca was right and Tim really didn’t like beautiful women.
Seeing Estelle coming, the receptionist directly took her upstairs to the previous meeting room.
“Miss Hudson, Mr. Roberts said that the interview will be held here,” she said.

Tim was sitting in the innermost of the meeting room, and a manager called Bob was standing beside him. And next to them was a large screen displaying a design drawing.
Estelle said politely, “Good morning, Mr. Roberts. I am...”
“I know who you are. You don’t have to tell me again. I’m not that old to forget it so soon,” Tim interrupted her and cut her words.
The next moment, the others all turned their heads to look at her.
Being stared at by so many people, Estelle was a little uneasy and even felt that the air in the meeting room had become thinner.
She thought that Tim was in a meeting, so she said, “Mr. Roberts, I’ll go out first and wait for you outside.”
“Wait.” Tim stopped her. “All the designers of our company are here today. Do you mind if we interview you together?”
