After Cristofer left, Gretchen was so flustered that she immediately called Melody.
It was late at night, and Melody was sleeping before the call woke her up. She looked at York, who was sleeping soundly beside her, and then got out of bed quietly and went to the balcony to answer the phone.
“Mom, Cristofer seems to suspect me. What should I do?” Gretchen hurriedly spurted out.
“What does he suspect you about? The car accident or the death of that old maid?”
“Neither,” Gretchen said anxiously. “Mom, do you know Rebecca? She’s Estelle’s good friend. She saw me when I went to the hospital to have an abortion a few years ago.”
“It’s so coincidental,” Melody wondered.
Gretchen spat and said, “Just my bad luck! I didn’t expect that seven years had passed, and she still remembers me. Mom, I’m so afraid now.”
Melody snorted and said, “What are you afraid of? She just saw you. Does she have any evidence about your abortion? If not, you can sue her for slander. Don’t worry. I handled everything well in the hospital back then, and all your medical records have been deleted. No one knows that you ever had an abortion.”
“But Mom, I... I can’t have a child. You asked me to pretend to be pregnant and urge Cristofer to marry me. I did as you said. But at that time, Estelle refused to get divorced. I had no choice but to pretend to miscarry after being slapped by her. Just now, Cristofer warned me not to lie to him. I’m really afraid that he will find out the truth sooner or later.”
Hearing that, Melody didn’t say anything. After thinking for a while, she lit a cigarette, drew on her cigarette, and blew out a stream of smoke.
Then she said, “Gretchen, calm down. I’ll help you. I was just a single mother, but I still married York and became a rich lady in the upper class. You are so young and beautiful. Holding her phone tightly, Gretchen still couldn’t rest assured after she heard that.
“Mom, what do you think I should do now?” she asked worriedly.
“How is your relationship with Cristofer recently?”
“Just so-so,” Gretchen said with a depressed look. “Since he has that little bastard, he has been living in the Hans’ Residence and seldom comes to my place.”
“Then let’s get rid of that little bastard first. I really don’t understand why he cares about his daughter so much. What’s good about his daughter?” Melody said and then took another puff of her cigarette and puffed out a cloud of smoke. “By the way, did you get the address of the Hans’ Residence?”
“Not yet...” Gretchen said, feeling upset.
“We are running out of time,” Melody said. “Estelle is the child’s biological mother. We have to get rid of the two of them as soon as possible so that you can marry Cristofer. You don’t need to worry about anything as long as you are married to Cristofer. Even if he discovers the truth about everything in the future and divorces you, you can still get half of his property!”
Gretchen sighed and said, “I see. I’ll try my best.”
“Of course, you should try your best. Men are all of the same nature. They all think that their mistresses are more charming than their wives. Now, you are going to become Cristofer's wife, so you may not be as charming as before in his eyes. You should use your brain and try to keep yourself attractive to him. Gretchen, don’t panic. We still have a long way to go. I’ll be with you all the way.”
Back then, it was all because of Melody’s advice that Gretchen could approach Cristofer and gain his trust step by step. Therefore, she trusted Melody very much.
After listening to Melody’s analysis, Gretchen felt much relieved and said, “Thank you, Mom.”
“Don’t pester Cristofer; just let him relax for some time. And after a few days, you cook a meal for him and send the food to his company to let him feel your kindness and consideration.”
“Okay.”
After hanging up the phone, Melody opened the window and let the smoke out before returning to the bedroom.
When she entered the room, York was awakened by the noise and frowned unhappily.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
Melody smiled gently and said, “I had a nightmare. That’s it.”
“What did you dream about?” York asked.
“I dreamed of Estelle,” Melody said. “She was very fierce in the dream and blamed me for not caring for her mother. And she wanted to kill me with a knife.”
“How dare she?” York snapped. “I’m the master of this family now. I won’t let her hurt you.”
Melody lay down beside him with satisfaction, held his arm, and closed her eyes. Then she said softly, “I’m much relieved to have you to protect me.”
When Estelle returned to Room 1231 of the Grand Hotel of Hadale City, she knocked on the door for a long time, but no one answered.
Then she asked a hotel staff member passing by, “Did the guest in this room go out?”
The staff member shook his head and said, “Sorry, I don’t know. Don’t you have his number? Why don’t you call him?”
Estelle looked at the time. It was past one o’clock in the morning.
She didn’t know if she should call Mr. Mysterious. After all, it was so late, and he might have been asleep. She didn’t want to disturb him.
While she was hesitating, she received a message from Mr. Mysterious.
‘Unlock the door with your fingerprint and wait for me in the room. I’ll be there soon.’
The messages from Mr. Mysterious always came at the right time, and Estelle was not surprised at all.
She put her right index finger on the fingerprint identification area, and a pleasant ringtone was heard. The next moment, the door was opened.
Seeing this, the staff smiled and asked, “Miss, why did you keep knocking on the door just now since you can unlock the door with your fingerprint?”
Estelle asked, “Only after one’s fingerprint is input into the lock system can one unlock the door, right?”
“Yes,” the staff said. “If you don’t input your fingerprint, the system can’t identify it and won’t open the door for you.”
‘Then why could I unlock the door with my fingerprint? I have never input my fingerprint into the system,’ Estelle thought and looked at the opened door in confusion.
Then she texted Mr. Mysterious.
‘Sir, do you have my fingerprints?’
‘Let’s talk about it later.’ Mr. Mysterious replied to her quickly.
Estelle took a deep breath, smiled at the staff, and then walked into the room.
