“Well, then you don’t need to queue up,” the officer said as she pointed at a service window at the corner, “You may go through the divorce procedures here.”
“Thank you.”
“Excuse me. Do you know the cooling-off period? The law requires a thirty-day cooling-off period before filing for divorce,” the officer said.
Estelle said gently, “Our cooling-off period happens to end today.”
“Okay. Please follow me.” The officer smiled awkwardly and made a gesture of “please.”
The hall was quite lively, and the people waiting to register for their marriage formed an S-shaped line.
Estelle looked around and found that there were about a hundred people in the hall. And the couples were all beaming with joy.
At this time, the voices of a young couple came from not far away.
“Hold it down. Don’t talk nonsense!” a young lady said.
“I’m serious! We have reached an agreement on it, haven’t we? After we get married, we will have a son and a daughter. Our son will adopt my family name, and our daughter will adopt yours,” the young man beside her said.

The divorce officer was a middle-aged woman.
“Sir, Madam, please show me your ID cards and the other relevant papers,” she said with a serious expression.
Estelle and Cristofer then handed her their ID cards, marriage license, and divorce agreement.
After confirming their identity information on the computer, the officer said, “The cooling-off period happens to end today.”
“Yes,” Estelle said, “Please help us go through the divorce formalities.”
While scrutinizing the divorce agreement, the officer asked in surprise, “Miss, you want custody of the children but didn’t claim any community property?”
“Yes.”
“It will be hard for you to bring up two children alone.”
“It’s okay,” Estelle smiled and said, “As long as I can get divorced, I’ll live a better life.”
Hearing this, the officer suddenly raised her head, looking at her and then shifting her gaze to Cristofer.
After looking at Cristofer for a few seconds with her sharp eyes, she sighed and said, “You two are good-looking and looked quite well-matched. And you’ve had two children. Alas. What a pity.”
After a while, all the divorce procedures were completed.
“The divorce certificate is in duplicate. Here you are,” the officer said.
“Thank you,” Estelle said and took one copy. Then she stood up, turned around, and left without hesitation.
Without taking the divorce certificate, Cristofer fixed his eyes on her with mixed feelings.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID and answered the phone, “Uncle Luke, what’s up?”
“What? Now?”
“But... Uncle Luke, I don’t think she will go with me.”
“Okay, I’ll have a try.”
At this moment, Estelle, who had walked out of the hall, was standing at the roadside.
When she waved her arm to hail a taxi, Cristofer suddenly grabbed her arm.
“Star, could you do me a favor?” Cristofer looked a little flustered.
