Chapter 5: Just Camilla, Just Luke

Camilla Cortes’ POV

“What the hell?” I mumbled.

“He’s your brother?” Alex asked incredulously.

We glanced at each other in shock when Nate confirmed that they were indeed brothers. It actually made sense now. No wonder he could get us into Club Electric; he owned the damn club. Now his name sounded a whole lot more familiar. He not only owns this club but many other clubs and restaurants around the world. I was brought out of my reverie when Nate started speaking.

“Luke, this is my new friend Camilla and her best friend, Alex. Ladies, this is my brother, Luke.”

“We’ve met,” Luke says, staring at me.

“Oh, you have?” Nate asks curiously.

“Y-yeah,” I muttered shyly, “I interviewed at his office to be his assistant.”

“She’s the hot girl you were telling me about,” he blurted out enthusiastically.

I bit back a laugh as a blush formed on Luke’s face. I held my head down to avoid the apologetic look that Nate had on his face. Alex, on the other hand, was snickering away, and I rolled my eyes at her. I looked over at Luke to find him staring at me. I didn’t even think that my skin could get as red as it was now.

“So, Nate, would you like to dance?”

He smiled at Alex, “I’d love to.”

I watched as he took her hand and led her to the dance floor. I must say, for a billionaire, he was a very cool and charming guy. It’s actually quite refreshing to see, not that I’ve met many billionaires anyway. I smiled at Alex, not trying to show her that I was upset she left me alone with my hot boss. I turned to face Luke; I can’t believe how absolutely nervous I am.

“So…” I trailed off.

“So, Miss Cortes,” he finally spoke, “it’s quite surprising seeing you here.”

I couldn’t help the blush that formed on my face. I felt totally out of place.

“Yeah, well, I’ve never been a fan of clubs. I was just so excited about the job that I accepted Nate’s offer.”

He turned to face me “How’d you meet my dear brother anyway?”

I took a sip of the drink Nate got me. “We met at the store; I had no idea who he was at the time, not to mention that he was your brother”

I watched him as a thoughtful look appeared on his face. I wasn’t lying when I said that I didn’t know who Nate was because I really didn’t. I was more than surprised when I found out that they were related. I really am clueless sometimes, but how was I supposed to make that connection. By the time I had finished spacing out, I had finished my drink, and that’s when I noticed that Luke was staring at me. I stared back at him, getting a confidence boost from the alcohol.

“Would you like to dance?”

I turned to scan the area behind me. He couldn’t be asking me, could he?

I pointed to myself. “Are you talking to me?”

He chuckled softly at my bewildered expression. “Who else would I be speaking to?”

“B-but you’re my b-boss.”

He stood up slowly, a smirk on his handsome face. “Right now, you’re not my assistant, and I’m not your boss.”

Staring at his outstretched hand, I felt an enticing calmness take over me, and I thought that we were just two people who wanted to dance together. I took his hand and let him lead me to the dance floor. Just as we made it to the center of the floor, the DJ switched to a slow song. I rolled my eyes at the timing of it; it was so cliché.

Luke pulled me into his arms and slid his hands down to my waist, pulling me closer. I shyly ran my hands up his chest; a soft groan resonated from him. My hands wrapped around his neck, and we began to sway to the beat of the music. I absolutely loved to dance, and I was incredibly good at it.

“You’re a fairly good dancer.”

“I try,” I smiled at him as he twirled me around and pulled me back into his arms.

“Have you been in the area long?” he asked me curiously.

“Alex and I moved here a few months ago. I needed a change of scenery, and Alex is just so awesome that she agreed to come with me”

“And how do you like New York so far? Is it what you thought it would be?”

“It’s rather interesting. My mother always wanted me to come here for some reason, but she’s never told me why.”

“Well, I’m sure she’s happy that you’re here now and working for one of the most eligible bachelors in New York, no less.”

I pulled away from him. For some reason, his saying that didn’t sit right with me. It was as if he was accusing me of purposefully seeking him out. It was all coincidental with me meeting him here, but I guess he didn’t think so.

“I’m not a gold digger, Mr. Williams,” I snapped at him, “and quite frankly, with that arrogant attitude of yours, I don’t know what women see in you.”

I stomped off the dance floor leaving a very shocked Mr. Williams staring at me. I headed straight for the bar and ordered three shots of tequila. I expected to wait for a little since there were people here before me, but I guess he saw me enter with Nate because just as soon as I had placed my order, I was downing the shots he gave me.

I raised my hand to the bartender and held up 3 fingers, quickly signaling that I wanted three more shots. He made the shots and handed them to me. I quickly took one, and when I was about to take the other, it was ripped from my hand by none other than Mr. Williams.

“I think you’ve had enough.”

“N-no I haven’t,” I giggled and grabbed my drink, “sit down, have a drink.”

“Look at you, brooding and wearing a suit,” I handed one of my shots to him, “you should really loosen up.”

He looked at me, and I mean really looked at me before he sat down and ordered shots. He wasn’t trying to be an eligible bachelor or a multibillionaire, and I wasn’t trying to impress my boss. I was just Camilla, and, at that moment, he was just Luke.
