Chapter 26: 26 - NOT DOING THIS
Grey took a deep breath.
“Sure not,” he said. “I called you for something entirely different.” He poured wine for himself. The glasses weren’t such big ones, so, the bottle wasn’t running low yet.
“But, let’s say it’s part of it because you could already see that that man isn’t the right person for you,” he pulled the glass to his lips and took a sip. He lowered the glass to the desk and continued. “He is a woman beater. He obviously doesn’t give a damn what you going through.”
“Obviously, but I don’t think I have plans of strolling off from his side,” said Lola.
“Because you believe you are stuck with him,” he said with a smile. “Listen, I can pay off the debt if you owe him so much you don’t want to…”
“Where is all this heading to?” she asked.
Somehow she had already suspected what all this talk was about but she would wait till he confirmed her suspicions with his own words.
He paused for a while and moved the paper to her. it was a sort of agreement she would have to sign, but she didn’t give it as much interest as was required at the moment. She wanted to hear him speak his mind.
“I am interested in you, Lola,” he leaned back to his seat. “I want to own you. I want you to be my woman.”
She scoffed. The signs had been clear within the few days he took it upon himself to take care of her after he rescued her from Lucas, with the monstrous jab he gave Lucas on the face.
“Sir, you are my boss,” she said, “what do you think people will say about us?”
He chuckled and leaned forward so she could see his face clearly enough and she did.
“What people think or say doesn’t mean a thing to me,” he leaned back to his seat. “And by the way, we won’t do much, Lola.”
She narrowed her eyes. he had something heavy in his throat. She wanted to hear him vomit what it was that hung in his throat.
“I will remain your boss, however, your husband at the same time, but a contracted sort of it,” his voice turned hoarse. “You won’t need to be emotionally attached to me because I don’t desire anything romantic from you.”
She gave him a glance that bore her query.
he moved his shoulders. “I need just a baby to be the heir to my family’s wealth, and a mother to raise him.”
Lola’s countenance changed from confused to enraged. How dare he speak such a horrible thing to her face. She wanted to rise and walk away from him, but he still had so much trash to say.
“The money, upkeep, anything you need won’t be a problem, but I prefer you spend more of your time in my family house with my mom, while I take care of business,” he wasn’t done yet. “Though you still have a choice on that. I can get you a house of your own where you will raise the…”
“Don’t speak no more, sir,” Lola rose to her feet. “You know what, Mary asked me when I would tender a resignation letter.”
“Mary?” Grey asked.
“Yes,” said Lola, “and she was right by the way, because the right time to do such is definitely now.”
Grey rose.
“You don’t have to, Lola, I have a good deal on the desk,” he said.
“Go to hell and burn with your deal, Grey,” Lola spoke into his face. “Look, I don’t need no deal. What I ever desired is a man who would love me and be everything in the world to me, not a boss who wants a baby-making whore.”
She pushed aside the seat and made it to the door. “I quit!”
She pulled open the door and slammed it so hard when she walked out of the office. Her colleagues at the cubicles rose as she walked into their corner, but she said nothing to them. She was enraged.
“Lola, are you alright?” the one at the right cubicle asked.
Lola felt so disrespected and wasn't in any way okay,
“Yeah, just that, I’ve resigned from here, do have a nice day,” she stumped out of the office with her bag. She was done with them.

The cab man this time was in his seventies. He looked like a war veteran. You hardly see old men in such business who aren’t a war veteran. Nearly all the old men in the city were there in the Vietnam war, or South Korea when the North wanted to drag the entire state into communism.
He had a choice of music, and he had no business with what his passenger wanted with the stereo. He played country music sung by men only, the sort that came with so much peace she fell asleep and was woken when she got to her destination.
“Keep change,” she didn’t take one look at the bill he folded into the cab man’s hand. She alighted and headed for the door of the apartment building she lived in with her mom.
The cab man pressed the hunk.

She dialed Shawn’s line in the lift. They hadn’t had a word for three days, but this time, she felt obliged to call him and tell him she finally bowed to his orders. She is done with her job with Mr. Tobi Grey.
“Pick up mother sucker,” she muttered in her breath. He didn’t pick. He’s probably too busy to do such. He is probably still mad at her.
The lift beeped and the door opened. She was there, at her apartment walkway. She walked in and made for the door, but only realized it wasn’t locked.
She scurried into the apartment and thus was the noise.
“Ah, I love this…ahh…hit my pussy hare you son of a bitch!”
“Ugh…fuck…Lola…”
“Not Lola…you…ahhh…son of a bitch…”
“Ugh…you are as sweet as the…ugh… other days.”
That was Shawn’s voice, and Kamari, in her room. She walked slowly to the door and saw it open. They were on a mating press; such an intense one they barely knew she was there.
“Shawn!”
