Chapter 40
Evan pulled me to sit up and said excitedly, "Really?"
I nodded shyly.
"Actually, I already knew that and have been waiting for you to tell me."
I am amazed.
"When you showed up at the hospital, I sent someone to investigate and found that you went to the OB/GYN."
"Hmph, then you don't say!"
He cupped my hand and dropped a tender kiss, "I wanted to wait for you to say it yourself. When I was intimate with you just now, I was deliberately very careful too, for fear of hurting the baby."
Thinking of his former distaste for children, I rushed to protect my belly, "You will not abort my child!"
"When did I say I didn't like kids?"
"That's what you said when we were first married and my uncle and aunt were pushing for a wedding."
As he tried to think, his eyes flashed and he seemed to remember something, "Do you remember every six months, Hawthorne Holdings' personal physician would examine you?"
"Remember."
"The first checkup after marriage, the doctor and I time you have a cold body, it's best to temper your body before having a child, otherwise it's easy to miscarry."
It dawned on me that this was the reason, followed by a nervous, "What now? I'm not going to fail to keep the baby too, am I?"
"Don't worry. For a long time afterward, I made you eat at home every day in order to give you a dietary supplement. That medical checkup before grandpa passed away, you're already fine to have a baby." He stroked my belly, rather blaming himself, "I've been so busy with the company after Grandpa's death that I forgot to tell you."
I hugged him tightly and shed tears of happiness.
"By the way, remember to ask for the money you left with the others." He muttered before going to bed.
Shit, he knows about this too?
Things aren't over on Lian Rivers' end.
She's back in Oceanside City to take Evan, and then to use the pitch to get a big fee to cover their family's losses abroad.
She compelled those around her to invest in financing and disappeared with the money last night after the society died.
After a few days, Evan moved me into a new house.
The new house is bigger than a villa and most importantly has two pools.
The new house is close to Hawthorne Holdings' private hospital, which made it easy for me to visit.
On my birthday, my husband shocked all of Oceanside City by setting off fireworks for me all night.
I later heard that Lian Rivers was arrested when she was leaving the country, and that she was suspected of fraud and might have to do a few years in jail before she could get out.
One day, as he put his arm around me as I fell asleep, he said, "You know when I fell in love with you?"
"When?"
"The one time you followed your aunt to a dinner party."
It was my first dinner party, I didn't know any etiquette, and I stood aside in a hasty manner.
Evan accidentally fell into the pool that night, and I was the one who jumped in and saved him without a second thought.
He's been in love with me ever since.
He waited for me until I graduated from college, found someone with whom I met at a party, and later had The Hawthorne Family go to Sue to propose marriage, and the two of us got together as a matter of course.
I should thank myself for learning to swim, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to save my future husband.
Perhaps it was all for the best.
