Chapter 95 Ninety Five
AMELIA XAVIER
My eyes opened slowly and immediately it hit the light, I shut it back. I was unaware of my surroundings so I tried again, this time slower, but snapped it shut when it hit the light.
“Amy!” Someone cried out, the voice sounding too familiar. My nose twitched at the smell of disinfectant and clinical cleanliness.
I was in a freaking hospital.
The memories before I blacked out came rushing with full force that I grimaced holding my head.
The voices, the screams, the laughter… blood and fainting.
My eyes snapped open just in time to see Owen by my side, he looked worried and by how he looked, it seemed as though he hadn't slept for days.
“Pumpkin, you're finally awake,” he muttered, supporting me as I sat up.
“How long did I pass out?” I asked wondering why his voice sounded that worried, did he think that I died or was in a coma?
“Three days actually,” he answered, trying his best to look happy that I woke up, but the worry and sadness plastered on his face was very much evident.
“Three days?!” I yelped quite surprised I passed out for a whole three days.
Suddenly, a thought came to me, someone had pushed me down the stairs and I had landed on my stomach. I let my hands survey my stomach but it felt empty.
The realization that I lost the baby I had tried so hard to protect hit me.
Owen seemed to notice because he shrugged.
“It'll be fine, pumpkin. I blame myself for leaving you behind… you wouldn't be in the hospital… the baby would've…”
“Stop it!” I hissed, a new kind of anger boiling in me.
Rage surged through my body at the thought of my baby and the moron who pushed me down from the stairs.
“Tell me exactly what happened,” he said and I did.
I waited for Owen to be back but I guessed he was busy preparing for the defeat of Ari Xavier, so I decided to go to bed, but remembered I left the TV on.
When I got to the sitting room, the TV was already switched off and that's when I sensed something was off.
One of the windows was open, and my coffee mug was turned upside down.
Someone was in the house.
I tiptoed to the stairs to get my phone since everywhere was dark and the intruder probably was still somewhere around the house, but as I reached the top of the stairs, a feminine hand pushed me from back making me tumble to the ground on my stomach.
I remembered the way my stomach ached and my whole body was growing numb.
My tongue clicked containing my rage, I promised within me to kill that bastard myself.
“So you're sure it's Ari Xavier?” He asked and I nodded, although I hadn't seen her face, I knew everything about her, from her perfume to what she was allergic to.
Owen kissed my hair with his fingers playing with them. “I'll make sure she pays, pumpkin. Just have some rest, then we'll…”
The door creaked open stopping Owen from finishing his statement. He kissed my nose and stood to leave nodding to the man who came in.
Father.
They seemed to get along which was a good thing.
Father came closer to me and plopped in the chair beside me. Even without Owen informing me of my attack, I was sure he already knew.
“Daddy…” I started to say, but he cut me off when he sighed.
“Are you okay? How're you feeling?” He asked with a concerned look in his eyes.
I smiled weakly which of course added to his worry.
“I just woke up to find out that I slept for three days — and I already feel sleepy again,” I tried to joke but he wasn't buying it so I said what he wanted to hear.
“I'll be fine, and I'm sure you have a plan on killing that bastard who did this to me!”
He chuckled at my attitude and I was a bit happy that it softened the atmosphere.
“Of course, we've been a lot busier these past few days and Owen's been losing sleep. I told that guy he needed a day off, but he's just so stubborn,” father said, placing his palm on my shoulder.
Ari Xavier wasn't giving us time to mourn properly before doing another damage, so I understood Owen more than anyone else, and even me who just lost a baby. I sagged my shoulders and groaned softly.
“Daddy,”
“Yes,” he answered, looking into my eyes.
“You don't need to bother, I'll personally kill that bastard.”
OWEN WINTERS
I sat in a corner by the poolside staring into the water as the moon shone its light on it. The water rippled slowly due to the soft breeze that went past it.
“Ari Xavier,” I muttered clutching a cigar in my hand. I played with the box and the lighter for a while before taking out one from it.
Staring at it, my mind wandered to all that had taken place in these past weeks. Father's death, Amy almost losing her life and the baby… my baby.
That woman meant it when she said she was going all out to make my life miserable. I lit the cigar and placed it between my lips, sucking it in, then letting it out with a puff.
I pulled out my phone and dialled Remi’s number, my therapist from back then. She answered on the first ring as though she expected me to call.
“Oh hi, Owen,” she said in that cheerful voice.
“Hi. You were expecting my call?” I asked and she affirmed.
“I've seen the news of your father's death, and everything that has happened.”
“Amy almost died and she lost our baby — that bastard woman…” my voice trailed as I hiccuped trying to hold back my tears.
“That must be really hard for you to face all these at once. You're smoking again aren't you?”
“Yes,” I replied, shutting my eyes to be able to think. It didn't work.
Nothing was working.
“Amy wouldn't like that and you know it. Why don't you try to face the problem head on, from the news Ari is gaining a lot of ground in Paris — your Paris…”
“So what do you suggest?” I asked, interrupting her.
Remi stayed silent for sometime then said, “Try taking her men instead of charging for her. Break her down little by little.”
A smile creeped to the edge of my lips, then I burst out laughing.
“I should recruit you,” I said and she chuckled.
“No, I like where I am… working from the side. It's late already, so let's call it a night. Sleep well,” she spoke then ended the call.
“Little by little, yes?”
