Chapter 66 You'll not like what you'll find
CHAPTER 66
You’ll not like what you find.
ROMAN – POINT OF VIEW
I stare at my laptop with intensity as the search comes up empty again.
I can’t find her. I can’t find Scarlett in Oxford’s database, even with my high-tech gadgets; she doesn’t exist. Did she lie? She couldn’t have lied. Maybe I’m not looking enough.
“Alright, we’re here, and we’re on time!” Elena announces, and I look up, return my gaze to my laptop, only to do a double-take.
Scarlett’s hair is different, lighter, but also calmer. Did she dye her hair? What?
The bodyguards put the luggage in the trunk carefully. Damian and Caleb walk out, impatient. We’ve been working hard. Dante’s win has caused quite a stir; everyone is talking about it, and the bastard is in the media, baiting us, but I’ve made a stern warning to every worker. No one must respond. No one will dare go against me.
Scarlett ignores me and walks towards the Bentley Mulsanne.
“You’re driving with me,” I inform her as I close my laptop.
“I don’t want to.” She responds curtly without even looking at me.
Irritation flares hot in my chest, and I gesture at my Rolls-Royce Ghost, “Get in, now.”
“No, thank you.” She doesn’t even look at me as she gets into the Bentley.
She doesn’t get to ignore me. Rage coils in me, and I storm to the car.
She cuts me off before I can speak, “We’re about to spend a week in Italy, together, and I’m not looking forward to that, but I will play my part to perfection there, not here. I need space from you. You’re smothering me, so drive in your car, and fuck off. We can play lovers when we get to Italy, not now.”
I scoff, running my gaze over her body, but say nothing. Instead, I turn around and get in my car.
She doesn’t know how dangerous this game can get, and I’ll show her.
I’m taking a team of six bodyguards, alongside Rick, Rue and Russel. I need everything to go smoothly in Italy. Scarlett needs to understand that I am in control. I don’t care about her rage or her tears or her shame. She came all over my fingers last night, and it took everything in me not to wank to her cum on my fingers. I’m not touching myself or even kissing her, but I am still going to touch. I’ll pull her apart bit by bit, and when she begs for mercy, she will find none in my sight.
There’s a private jet waiting for us at the airport.
Scarlett ignores meand walks ahead.
I watch her as she moves. She doesn’t walk like someone who’s not used to this kind of luxury. There’s a certain finesse that she tries to hide in the clothes she wears, her minimalist style, the way she carries herself, quietly, like old money. She doesn’t even splurge on stupid things. I’ve paid her over ten million, and she doesn’t freak out because of the money, like it doesn’t faze her.
Damian seems to think the same way because he asks, “Ever been on a private jet, Scarlett?”
She looks at him, caught offguard, then glares at me before responding, “Something like that.”
“Oh, fancy,” Elena chuckles.
“She is fancy. She went to Oxford.” I inform them, and Scarlett freezes.
“You went to Oxford?” Caleb blinks in surprise.
Everyone looks at her, shocked, even her supposed sister. I grin, pleased as her lies slowly unravel. I’ve known for a while now that they are not sisters.
Eve recovers quickly and scoffs, “Yeah, she did. She’s the smart one. She got in on a scholarship.”
“That’s amazing. What did you study, Scarlett?” Damian asks as we step into the comfort of the private jet.
“It seems so long ago, and I can’t remember. I don’t like to talk about that phase of my life. It’s over now, so let’s focus. I actually need to sleep. I didn’t sleep well last night.” She says dismissively and walks away.
“We can share the cabin,” Elena rushes after her.
The men and I share a look. I am amused to think she can keep anything from me. I am going to find everything.
Caleb waits for Eve to walk away, then turns to me, “Let me guess, you’re going to investigate her?”
I grin, “Already doing that. You have to admit that it’s suspicious. She’s hiding something, and I’m going to find out everything.”
“She is going to great lengths to hide her past, and you want to unravel everything. She’s hiding it for a reason, and it’s not shame or greed, probably fear, which means that there’s danger. Do you understand me, Roman? You might not like what you’ll find if you keep digging. Things can spiral, and you’ve spent years pulling everything together, but this is a sure way to unravel her life, and yours.” Damian enunciates clearly, a frown etched on his forehead.
His words wash over me like a bad omen, and I bite my tongue.
I can’t stop. I need to know everything she’s hiding. I need to punish her. She needs to pay for what she did to me. I trusted her, I opened up to her, I let her see me, and she made a mockery of me and everything. She sold me out to Dante.
Rage coils in me, and I dig my fingers into my palm, holding back everything I feel.
The Pilot walks out of the cockpit and informs us, “We’re taking off soon.”
I nod, and we get comfortable on the leather seats. Damian doesn’t bring it up again, but I hear it loud and clear.
I reach for my laptop and begin fresh research on her. How has she successfully hidden her past from the public's eyes? She’s not American, and she always has the faintest trace of an accent, an accent I can’t place.
One thing I know for sure is that at the end of this visit, I’ll have more of her secrets in my palms.
