Chapter 41 The fear of being a demon
“Someone is trying to piss Rave off”
She said, her voice still weak, the last of the nosebleed wiped away.
The room went quiet.
Loud thinking quiet.
Hazel felt the air grow heavy, almost electric, like the seconds before lightning cracks the sky open.
Kael leaned back slowly, eyes narrowing.
“Who could it be”?
Dona shrugged, her breath still uneven.
“I don’t know. But whoever it is… they understand her. They understand how she reacts. This seal was placed there not to expose her, but to provoke her”.
She said but soon corrected herself.
“But I might be wrong. This might also be a decoy to get us off track”.
She said and they all looked at her, brows raised, and confusion written on their faces as they were now unsure of what exactly to think.
Hazel looked at the seal for a while before she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath.
'if Dona thinks Cathy is Rave, then whoever did this would be someone who doesn't like Cathy or wants something from her'.
She thought to herself but immediately shook her head.
'That's not possible, no one knows who Rave truly is, even Dona isn't sure it truly is Cathy'.
She thought again before feeling Dona's gentle hand on her shoulder.
“Hazel? Are you okay”?
She asked and Hazel opened her eyes, looking at everyone in the room before she nodded.
She then turned to Dona and asked.
“If she is my twin from the same source, isn't there a way for me to be able to connect with her? Obviously there has to be a way that she found out about me”.
She said and Dona went silent for a while.
“That's true. How come we never thought of that before”?
Kael spoke, causing both ladies to turn to him.
“We have to find out what source you were both gotten from”.
He said and Dona nodded.
“That's a possibility. But the only way to discover ones source is by confirming from the high up.
The moon goddess or the gods of the underworld”.
She said and Kael sighed trying to think of something but soon, he raised his head, eyes opened as he turned to Hazel who also had her eyes opened to look at him and the both spoke at the same time.
“That man”!
“Him”!
They said, surprising they other two who were seated in total confusion.
“We'll try to find answers”.
Kael said and looked at Dona.
“For now, I need you to keep studying this seal. And let me know if you discover anything else”.
He said and she nodded instantly. He then turned to Miguel.
“Seems you're going to have to take nightshifts at the southern boarder.
Rave and the dragon pack seems to be getting more bold by the day. You're the only one I can trust to truly keep an eye out”.
He said and Miguel nodded.
After a while, both ladies left, leaving just Kael and Miguel in the study.
Miguel studied Kael for a while and noticed he was stressing.
“You’re thinking too hard”.
Miguel said, drawing his attention but Kael looked at him with a faint smile.
“I’m thinking exactly enough”.
He muttered.
“What exactly is on your mind”?
He asked and Kael sighed heavily as he rested his head on the top of the couch, looking at the ceiling.
“Hazel shouldn’t be here”.
He blurted out but Miguel frowned.
“Why”?
Kael didn’t answer but Miguel's face calmed as it soon dawned on him.
“She has never seen you turn into that… has she”?
He asked and Kael closed his eyes, letting out yet another heavy sigh before standing up and going towards the window.
“Everyday, the words I said to her in that abandoned building hunts me. How could I have called a monster when truly… it is I who is a monster”.
He said looking outside his window.
I can already tell that whatever is coming requires me to fight with my all. But I'm not sure I want her to see me like that”.
He said and Miguel just kept looking at him for a while before he also stood up and walked towards him.
“You're worried over nothing Kael".
He said, causing Kael to turn to the side and look at him.
“I might not be sure of any other thing, but Hazel truly loves you.
Even when she hates you, she still loves you”.
He said and place one of his hands on Kael's shoulder.
“Trust me and trust Hazel.
She is going to love you no matter what you turn into”.
He said but Kael kept looking at him, surprised.
“Miguel”?
He called and Miguel looked at him, waiting for him to continue speaking.
“Don't you… have feelings for Hazel".
He asked and Miguel's eyes opened wide as he immediately pulled his hand off of his shoulder.
“What are you talking about? I don't"!
He said and Kael looked at him, sucking in some air as he tilted his head to the side a little.
He could tell that Miguel's feelings had changed but why? He wasn't sure.
“I'll take my leave now, I should prepare to get to the southern boarder on time”.
Miguel said and rushed out before Kael could ask any other question.
When he got downstairs, he saw Dona and immediately paused in his steps.
“Hi”.
She said and he simply bowed a little before he began walking away.
Dona watched him walk out but just before he could completely disappear, she screamed.
“Wait”!
She said, causing him to pause in his tracks.
She walked towards him and he turned to look at her.
The intense pull he got whenever he stared into her eyes was just plain torture.
After a while, she placed her hand into her pocket and brought out a pill bottle.
“Here”.
She said and handed it over to him.
“I don't know if you'll need it, but if ever you feel struck by magic of any kind, one pill should be able to keep you going for a while”.
She said, and held his hand in hers.
“Please, be safe”.
