Chapter 66

I watched from the sidelines, a sleeping Mathew bundled against my chest, as Dominic and Alpha Scott went over strategies with the warriors for tomorrow's battle. My heart clenched just thinking of my mate leading the pack into war for the first time.

What if I lost him out there? The thought caused my breath to hitch. I pulled Mathew closer, cradling my still flat stomach with my free hand.

Our twins were newly conceived, just starting to take shape inside me. What if I lost them too?

He must have sensed my distress, because Dominic looked up and met my worried gaze from across the field. Leaving the strategy session, he quickly crossed over to the field until he stood before me. His palm cupped my cheek.

"I will return to you, my luna," he murmured intensely. His eyes flickered down to my abdomen before locking back on mine. "All of you. Have faith."

I managed a small nod, leaning into his touch.

Though I trusted his strength, the fear still gnawed sharply with our growing family at stake. All I could do was hope the moon goddess would allow my mate to come back victorious after his first battle tomorrow.

"I can—"

"No, you will not come." Dominic immediately cut me off from speaking.

"But—"

"No buts." he sternly said, but I wasn't going to take no for an answer.

Suddenly, Dominic was alerted by the commotion of pack warriors who had spotted strange wolves nearby. He turned to me with a serious expression.

"Freya, go inside with Mathew," he said firmly.

I could see the calculating look in his eyes as he assessed the potential threat. But something about these wolves felt...different. They didn't seem dangerous, in a way that set my instincts on edge. I shook my head stubbornly as a rogue would.

Dominic's jaw clenched, but he didn't argue further. He knew better than to question my resolve when it came to protecting our family and pack. With a sharp nod, he turned to face the tree line where the unknown wolves had been spotted.

As we approached the distance of the pack border where the rogue wolves had been spotted, Dominic suddenly snarled angrily. I gave him a questioning look, but he just shook his head.

Then, the wolves began shifting back into their human forms, quickly covering themselves with clothes they had carried in a bag within their mouths.

My eyes widened as I realized this wasn't just a small pack - there were easily fifty-five of them after losing count. An extremely large number, but what struck me as truly odd were the children among them...and the bags they all carried, as if they were fleeing.

Dominic stepped forward, radiating authority. "Why are you trespassing on my territory?" he growled at the large group.

A man stepped forward, flanked by a couple women. His expression was weary but determined. "Alpha Dominic...we had no choice. We've come from Lucas's pack."

"There might be a shield stopping you from entering any further but rest assured I can still smell your filth." Dominic snapped, making them take a step back.

"Alpha, there are children." Alpha Scott addressed him which was rather true.

I understood his hatred for their leaders but he still needed to remain cautious around the pups who looked very much afraid.

The man continued urgently. "He's gone mad with power, it was terrible before but now he's killing his own which makes it unacceptable. Killing anyone who defies him, even punishing the children..." He glanced back at the frightened kids clinging to their mothers. "We had to escape before he massacred us all, others wanted to leave but were afraid of getting caught and decided to stay. We're seeking asylum in your pack."

An uneasy silence fell over our warriors as they took in the massive group of refugees. I could sense Dominic's internal struggle - wanting to offer sanctuary, but also having to consider the safety of his own pack first.

I stepped forward, adjusting Mathew in my arms. "The adults will remain in the cells until after the war, so we can ensure there is no trickery at play here." My voice rang out firmly, silencing any protests before they could begin.

I met Dominic's gaze steadily as I continued. "The children, however, will be given rooms at the pack clinic and provided with food and care." I would not punish innocents, no matter what sins their Alpha had committed.

Without waiting for Dominic's response, I turned and started walking back towards the packhouse. I was the luna, his equal in all matters regarding our pack, even though my ruling hadn't been discussed with alpha Dominic.

Once inside Mathew's room, I gently laid him down in his bed, brushing the wispy hair off his forehead. As I stood there watching his peaceful slumber, I felt Dominic's presence enter the room, his heavy footsteps coming up behind me.

I could feel his powerful aura enveloping me as he wrapped his arms around me from behind. His breath tickled my ear as he whispered, his voice oozing authority and desire.

"Watching you take charge is enough to make me weak at the knees, Freya." he murmured, his lips trailing kisses along my neck, I tilted my neck giving him more access to me.

My heart raced with excitement as I melted into his touch, feeling wanted and desired in his strong embrace.

At his remarks, I was compelled to breathe deeply as a gust of heat swept through my body. "Someone had to do it," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper, my desire for him growing with each passing second.

A thrill ran through me as Dominic's hand drifted up from my waist, moving painfully slowly over my breast to securely grip around my neck. His touch sparked a primal yearning deep inside my pussy.

Dominic's hand landed sharply on my ass, a sharp gasp escaped my lips, a delicious sting spread through me, heightening my senses.

"Don't do it again," he ordered, his words ringing in my ears. But beneath the sternness, I detected a hint of invitation, a silent dare to defy him once more.

I could hear the subtle longing in his voice, a desire barely contained beneath his authoritative tone. It was as if he was daring me to defy him, to push his limits further. And I was more than willing to accept that challenge.

Biting my lip, I couldn't resist grinding my ass against his growing hardness, feeling his member throb in response. A low moan escaped my lips as I surrendered to the intoxicating sensation of his body pressed against mine.

"Stop it, Freya," he groaned, his voice thick with desire and restraint. I could hear the pain in his voice, the battle he was waging against his primal instincts. The urge to bend me over and take me right then and there was almost overwhelming.

Dominic's grip tightened even more, a silent warning of the consequences of defying him.

But even as he fought to maintain his composure, I could sense his resolve slipping, his restraint giving way to primal instinct.

And as he released his grip on me, his eyes dark with desire, I couldn't help but smile, knowing that our passion was about to ignite into an inferno of ecstasy.

I turned around to face Dominic, I could see the struggle written across his face. His eyes bore into mine with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine. But despite his attempt to regain composure, I couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of him in distress.

"What's the matter, Dominic? Can't handle a little teasing?" I teased, a mischievous smile playing on my lips.

His glare softened slightly, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes. "You know how to push my buttons, Freya," he admitted.

"The only reason I'm holding back is because our son is nearby," he explained.

"I have to get back to the pack warriors and Alpha Scott," he said, his voice heavy with regret. "If it weren't for that, I would take you to my room and bury myself deep within those walls of yours Luna." Dominic mind-linked.

I smiled mischievously at Dominic. "I can't wait to happily fulfill your request," I purred, letting the seductive promise drip from my voice.

Dominic grinned wolfishly and pulled me flush against his body. As our curves molded together, his hands roamed over me possessively. I let out a soft moan of anticipation.

Our lips crashed together in a passionate, hungry kiss that stoked the fire rapidly building inside me. Our tongues tangled as I clutched at his shoulders, desperate to draw him even closer.

Dominic thoroughly explored my mouth and I lost myself in the ardent motions of his lips and tongue against mine. Too soon, he broke the heated kiss, leaving us both panting for air. Our foreheads pressed together as our eyes locked, undisguised desire blazing between us.

"I'll be back," Dominic murmured huskily. He claimed one last scorching kiss from my lips before turning for the door. I watched him go, my body still flushed and aching with unfulfilled yearning in his wake.

Before I could collect myself fully, the door opened again a minute later. I turned in surprise, expecting Dominic to have returned. But the figure who entered was not my alpha lover.

"Thalia?" I couldn't keep the surprise from my voice.

Thalia's piercing eyes fixed on me, "We must talk urgently, Freya."
