Chapter 90: Chapter 89
Jessica.
We spend the entire day in bed, talking about everything and nothing and watching movies to pass the time. During the evening, we decide to make use of the hot tub. I wear a swimsuit, going outside to join him with a robe on. He's already in the tub, a glass of wine in his hands and his gaze on me as I approach him. Cocking his head to the side, he watches me discard the robe, stepping into the bubbling water, steam rising around us. I give him a smile, trying not to let my self-consciousness get to me. He immediately pulls me to himself, and we stay silent for a while, just enjoying the feel of our bodies against each other, the hot water relaxing our bodies and the stars twinkling in the sky. I close my eyes, taking in a deep breath. So peaceful.
"What are you thinking of?" Devon asks, breaking the silence as he kisses the back of my ear, his voice a low growl.
"Nothing," I mutter, enjoying the view of the beach against the darkening sky.
"Really?"
"Yes, really," I answer. Pressing my lips, I add, "A little worried about the future, but I'm not dwelling on it, not like before."
"I'm glad to hear that," he says, running a hand down my waist as he licks off the water droplets on my breasts. Slightly distracted, I continue speaking.
"It's crazy how things change. One moment we're strangers, the next we're almost inseparable," I mutter. Linking his fingers with mine, he brings it to his lips, pressing against it before gazing at the rings.
"And it'll stay this way, forever," he murmurs. I lean back at him, a small smile adorning my face as I remember the decision that changed everything. "Sending that email was one of the best mistakes of my life," I announce.
"And clicking on yours was one the best decisions I've ever made," he replies. We laugh at that before I turn around to press a kiss on his lips. He doesn't let me go, however, deepening the kiss. I pull away before things get too heavy, resting my forehead on his, gazing into his eyes.
"I love you," I whisper, my voice soft.
"I love you more," he replies, cupping my face. Letting out a smile, I rest my head on his chest, closing my eyes as I listen to his heartbeat, a content feeling spreading in my chest.
Whatever the future holds for us, I know we'll face it together.

As the private jet begins its descent into San Francisco, a mixture of emotions swirls within me. The turquoise waters of Mauritius, the tropical paradise where Devon and I spent our honeymoon, are now replaced by the familiar skyline of the city I call home. My heart quickens with anticipation, a bittersweet feeling that tugs at my chest. It's been an incredible week of sunsets, laughter, and stolen moments with Devon, and yet, there's a part of me that's glad to be back.
My fingers trace the outline of my wedding ring, a constant reminder of the promise we made to each other. I glance at Devon, who's sitting beside me, his hand resting on my thigh. His touch is reassuring, grounding me in the reality that I'm not alone in this journey. His gaze meets mine, and a soft smile curves his lips. "Ready to be back, Mrs. Reeves?" he asks, his voice warm and tender.
I return his smile, my heart fluttering at the sound of my new name. "I am," I reply, my voice carrying a mix of excitement and contentment. "As much as I love every moment in Mauritius, I miss my sisters and this city."
He chuckles softly, his thumb caressing the back of my hand. "I can tell how much you missed them. You've been texting them nonstop since we boarded the plane."
I roll my eyes, laughing afterwards. "Well, I have a lot to catch up on." I tell him and he kisses my cheek. I lay my head on his shoulder, squeezing his hand as the jet descends to the tarmac. The plane touches down, the wheels hitting the tarmac with a gentle thud. It slows to a stop and the plane attendant comes to announce to us. Helping us with our bags, we step out of the plane, our arms intertwined. I spot Emma meters away from us, beside a car and raising a placard as she waves excitedly at us.
A genuine smile lights up my face as I approach her. Emma pulls me into a tight hug, her excitement infectious. "You're back!" she exclaims, her voice filled with genuine joy. I giggle, patting her back, Devon not far behind me. I pull back to stare at her radiant face, cupping her cheeks as she grins at me. Suddenly, she pulls away, gasping in shock.
"Oh my God. What happened to you?" She asks, her voice strangled.
I stiffen, touching my face. "What happened to me?" Glancing at Devon, I try to figure out what's wrong with me, but he just shrugs.
"You're glowing! Devon, what did you do to my sister!?" She yells at him, but he just laughs, placing a hand across my shoulders as he pulls me close.
Nothing, we just had some fun and some stolen moments," Devon mutters, kissing me in front of her. I shake my head, turning to Emma, who's grinning from ear to ear.
"You're out of your mind," I mutter, but she just rolls her eyes, gesturing towards the car, a mischievous grin on her face. "Let's go home and catch up on everything!" She turns to look at me. "Missed you really."
"Liar," I mumble but laugh as I enter the car. We drive home, with me discussing with Emma and sharing photos that we took while on the honeymoon. Sophie calls in the middle of everything, and we have a little reunion over the phone. At home, we find Martha, the housekeeper, waiting for us with a warm welcome.
"We cooked!" Emma announces as she walks in, glancing at me.
"Really? Awesome because I'm starving," I announce, and Emma just grins.
"We'll be warming it up, so you can just go freshen up and come back right up," she tells me. "Please, just freshen up. Nothing else. You need to be back in fifteen minutes." Emma warns, her voice stern. I stare at her for a good minute, lost for words before doing as she says.
We change out of the clothes we wore, going back up to have a bite. It doesn't taste like the exotic dishes I had in Mauritius, but I'll get used to it soon enough. Once the late lunch ends, Devon and I wash the dishes together while Emma disappears to her room. Enjoying the clinking of the plates as I wash the dishes, Devon comes behind me, pressing a kiss against my neck.
"Let's shower together after this," he murmurs against my skin, and I can feel his smile on my skin. Goosebumps rise on my skin as I glance at him, beholding his hungry gaze.
