Chapter 70
Kay.
I can't believe River has been hiding under our noses the whole time.
I know this place so well; it's the same place where we rescued Andrea from.
Now that I'm looking at it, there are four old buildings aligned next to each other, and I know better than to judge their outward appearance.
I still don't believe he is that smart, though. That day on our pretend date, he couldn't even hold a fight, unless he was faking it. Come to think of it, Grayson had joined the Russians, how sure am I that River pulled out?
I will seek answers later; right now, we have an animal to hunt.
I undo my seatbelt and grab more ammo from the compartment of the car. I pray it goes well. I can not lose anyone else tonight.
"Stay beside me, please. I won't be able to concentrate without you in my line of sight." Carl holds my hand, and it makes me happy that someone apart from Dad cares this much about me.
"I will, babe, be careful too," I kiss his cheek, and he chuckles, getting out to open my door. Guess I will never get used to some things. " I can't believe he has been hiding here, and we didn't even suspect it," I murmur in disbelief, taking the small, creepy alley to the supposed location.
River is my first enemy to give me a hard time and outsmart me for this long. That man knows how to creep out someone and make them unsettled. I applaud him for that.
"Me neither. Remember at the party when we were looking for someone unusual, and he was right next to you?" Theo says, laughing, and I feel more stupid. Imagine lying to someone who knows everything about you, and they still listen and pretend to be strangers.
"Urgh, don't remind me," I grumble, hitting my forehead with my palm, and he laughs more. This is so embarrassing. What was he even thinking?
"Don't laugh at her," Carl snaps with a scowling face before taking my hand, and Theo instantly becomes silent.
"Easy, Carl, he's my friend, remember? , Friends do that all the time," I whisper to my frowning man and look back at Theo with an apologetic face. How does Carl act with his friends? I see them laughing all the time, even when most of it he is grumpy.
"Don't worry about him," I whisper to Theo, and he smiles, reassuring me he is okay. I like him so much. He has the cleanest heart I have known; that's why he doesn't deserve to be in this kind of world at all.
The men open the doors of the second building, and we cautiously enter, everyone holding onto their guns just in case we are ambushed. From what I know, I won't be surprised if River already knows we are here; he always has someone on the inside, feeding him information about everything.
His main hideout is built underground, and from the many spacious rooms available, it only means his men live here too. Our men are divided, so each will have a specific location to search instead of everyone going in the same direction.
Ed, Carl, Theo, and I take the right hallway while the rest take a different turn.
"No one is here. Are you sure this is the correct location? " Ed asks, tucking away his gun, and I continue to push through door after door. It's clear that people have been here not so long.
The half-empty bottles of beer and the bags of chips on what looks like the dining table are enough proof. I head for the last door and slowly push it open.
Bingo, the main lair of the fool. The room is bigger than the ones we had been in. A big mahogany table and an office chair lie in the middle, indicating that it's his office.
On the right side of the room, a big closet with countless shelves is holding all kinds of weapons, and it's sure as hell very impressive. Looks like River got a short notice to escape because no one leaves this kind of shit in the hands of their enemies.
One of the weapons catches my attention, though, my beautiful sword. I'm not leaving it behind again because it only has one job: to save the world from the psychotic lineage of Grayson.
The papers on his desk catch my attention, and it gives me a gleam of hope.
We are surely finding something in here. I leave the sword for later and rush to the table.
"Help me look around, we need something that will lead us to the women he is taking," I inform my friend as I go through the countless papers on River's desk. It's kind of smart of him to set his office here because no one will ever start to imagine, a crappy building like this holds this amount of stuff.
"We will find them, Kay. This looks like his main hideout." Theo speaks, still checking out River's stash of weapons. Aside from his crazy nature, he has taste. From the guns he uses to the knives, swords, bows and arrows, and the poison pins, they are all classic and of high quality.
I don't know if he knows how to use them, though. I like a man who can hold a fight better than he uses weapons.
I haven't seen Carl in combat yet, but I'm sure he is remarkable.
"Look at this, princess," Theo rushes to me with a bunch of papers, and I hope they hold something we need.
"Leave us guys, I need to talk to her alone." I look at Carl's serious face and wonder what's wrong with him. Theo and Ed exit the room without any form of argument. I wish he would allow me to check out the papers first. Carl shuts the door behind the boys and starts walking toward me silently.
Is something wrong?
"Is everything okay, Carl?" I walk to the love of my life wondering what might have happened in the short time we've been here.
"No," he says, meeting me midway, and before I know it, he lifts me from the ground and sits me on River's desk, and gets between my parted legs.
"What is it?" I worriedly ask, grabbing his face to direct his gaze to my face, though it's already there. He sighs, moving so close that there is no space between us. This must be serious.
"I can't stop thinking about fucking you," he mumbles, staring at my lips, and I swallow nothing, at the same time stupefied. Does he have to be this blunt? And to think I was so worried for nothing.
"Mmh, is that what's troubling you?" Sometimes I just can't believe this man. We are in the middle of a mission, and he's busy thinking of sex?
"Yes, I won't take long, just a minute, and we will be done, okay?" He whispers, squeezing my ass, and I gasp in surprise. And here I thought I had seen crazy. Carl is not just thinking about sex, but rather he wants to do it right now and in all the places in the world, here.
"Baby, are you serious? Look around us, Carl, we can always do it at home." I try pushing him away, but who am I kidding? This man won't budge, no matter how hard I try.
"I'm serious, I have been starved for so long, don't you think?" he whispers, nibbling on the skin of my neck, and I crane it to give him more space. He never said he wanted it, and he was also sick. He kneads my ass more, and I slightly arch my back toward him.
His touches are like magic, just like a bulb being switched on, and you can't escape, no matter what. "
Does it have to be here? Someone might walk in." I try convincing him otherwise, but deep down, I want his hands all over me.
"I don't care," and just like that, our clothes start flying across the room, and I can't help but feel this is really adventurous. Having sneaky sex on the office desk of my enemy.
"I knew it, you two have completely lost your mind," Sam says beside the door, followed by the rest of the guys. The embarrassment I'm feeling is on another level. My shorts and panties are midway up, the coat and my weapons are carelessly thrown on the floor, while carl is at least half dressed.
"What do you want?"Carl snarls, helping me get dressed, and I don't dare give them a second glance. Who knows what they might be thinking about me in their heads?
"Well, brother, in case you forgot, we are here for a reason. We found out where he is keeping the women when you were busy having fun." Rico, who I didn't know was here, says with great spitefulness that makes me lift my face to look at him.
Of course, he will be here; his dear mother is one of the victims River is keeping wherever.
Today he let his hair down, and he is not carrying his always playful personality. Instead, Rico has his eyes on me, and I don't want to read it the wrong way, but they hold hurt.
He looks tired and defeated. Why is that?
