Chapter 47
Kay.
"Rose?" I ask him in confusion.
I don't remember bearing such a name.
"I'm sorry, I meant princess," River chuckles nervously, scratching the back of his head.
When did he become nervous? I know he figured out who I am.
Something seems fishy with this dude.
"Let's get inside," I quickly say, taking my hand away from his, before he can put it on his disgusting lips again.
I don't know anything about him, but I know of the saying,' Like father, like son. '
I need to keep reminding myself that he's Greyson's son. There is much to him when his innocent act wears off.
We both act innocent when we want something, and I would rather not fall his victim.
I motion for the guy I came with to follow me. I don't know if this fucker is alone or not, since he arrived before us.
There is no way he came alone, I'm sure of that.
The restaurant is already packed with couples who are probably in love. How cute!
I wonder when Carl is gonna ask me out on a date like a normal relationship should be.
River pulls a chair out for me, and I thank him, sitting down. He doesn't have to pretend to be a gentleman, though, because there is no way I am falling for that.
He sits in the chair opposite mine, and I hate how he is staring at me. Only Carlos is allowed to look at me like that; everything is just comfortable with Carl.
He makes me miss him so much. Urgh.
The man before me doesn't even look like he lost a father.
I am not judging, but if my father were dead, right now I would still be mourning, and probably fat from eating lots of chocolates and watching sad movies 24/7.
I love my father so much, and I pray he doesn't die before me.
Grayson was buried last week, and I am happy to say, the old fuck is peacefully rotting in hell.
"Sorry about your father," I tell him, but there is no ounce of pity in my chest.
"It's okay," he says, motioning for the waitress to come over.
"Do you have any leads?" I look at him expectantly. His face doesn't give out anything.
He remains silent for a minute and sighs, looking at the time on his watch.
"No. We were not looking anyway," he says dismissively, and I gape at him.
No way, so they stopped the investigations?
This sounds really shady.
"Why not? he was your father." I don't care about his death, but I came here with the hope of finding out who the killer was, so I could at least learn something about Master.
Don't tell me I fucking wasted my time.
"My father deserved what came to him. I think it's stupid wasting my time on a case that won't help me," he says unbothered.
Wow!
It was pointless coming here.
"Do you know who might have killed him?" I ask again, making sure I don't sound so desperate.
Hell, I'm so fucking miserable.
"Forget about my father, princess, let's talk about you." he changes the topic, and I feel like tearing his throat out with my fake nails.
Why is everything working against me?
Should I start attending church services?
I remain quiet, waiting for him to start talking 'about me' but he doesn't.
River has his eyes behind me, his jaw is tightly locked, and his palms are rigidly gripping the poor glass of water.
Did I say something wrong?
His grey eyes turn so hard and cold. I am about to look back to see what is stressing him up when a figure approaches our table.
The man noisily scrapes a chair from the nearest table and brings it with him to our table.
I try to hide my shock as I stare at the beast in front of me.
Inside, I am freaking out, but I remember not to show my weakness, so I take a deep breath and wear a stoic expression.
I think I am doing so well.
The man is big and he has his blonde long hair tied in a top knot.
The forsaken man has multiple piercings, and he has his face tattooed with every kind of dirty words in history.
He is way older than my dad; his eyes are scary, cold, and pale blue. He is a danger on legs.
The man has skull rings on his three fingers, and he's wearing all black.
Fuck, the way he's staring at me sends cold shivers down my spine.
I sneakily lower my hand under the table and slowly take out my dagger. I am not making the mistake of being caught off guard again, at least not tonight.
"So you are the infamous princess everyone is talking about?" he raises an eyebrow as his eyes regard every inch of my face and down to my cleavage.
The stare makes me feel like insects are crawling on my skin.
His voice is cold and very deep, accompanied by a very thick Russian accent.
His big hand snatches the glass of water in front of me, and slowly takes a sip without taking his eyes off me.
Who the fuck is he?
He is very intimidating; it's clear he's trying to intimidate me, but I know better than bowing to a man.
"I see why. You actually exceed my expectations," The man smirks, putting the glass back in front of me.
I carefully watch him as he puts his arms on the table and leans forward.
"I assume you are on a date with..." he looks at the silent River, who is still sending daggers at him with his eyes," with him," he says in a mocking way and chuckles.
"Oh! My condolences, River," he smirks, placing his palm on his chest.
Do they know each other? He's giving me bad vibes.
"So princess, I am here to settle a score." he looks back at me, and the smirk is now gone, replaced by a stoic face, more of anger
"Leave River grits out, pushing his chair behind and getting on his feet.
The man ignores River and keeps his stare on me.
"You see, your little boyfriend killed my son and most of my men. And I thought, how should I repay the favour, and then I remembered he loves some girl," he chuckles darkly, staring at me.
Does he think River is my boyfriend? River killed his son, and I am supposed to pay for that?
Hell no.
He didn't even give me the information I wanted, and I am probably not paying for his sins.
"You should leave Victor," River says again, and this time, drawing his gun.
Did he say, Victor, the man who ordered that I should be killed?
The one Carl went after?
Shit, Carl.
