I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease as I walked out of the hospital ward. Diego's unexpected appearance left me devastated. I quickly finished with my patients and left the hospital.
Terrified and excited to see Diego, my emotions swirled up within me But one thing was certain, I couldn't let Diego find out about the twins. I was determined to keep him away from my kids at all costs.
How did he find me? I thought I had covered my tracks well enough. But Diego's resources were endless, and his determination was unmatched.
As I rushed home, my mind raced with thoughts of what could happen next. What if he shows up at my doorstep? Would he try to contact me again? The mere thought of Diego finding me again sent shivers down my spine.
I quickened my speed, peeking over my shoulder. Depression had become my constant companion since escaping Diego's grip.
Immediately I got inside my apartment, I locked the door and leaned against it, exhaling deeply. "Safety." I felt relieved.
My children's laughter echoed from the living room, where Leon was having fun with them.
My heart leaped for happiness and surged with appreciation towards this man who had assisted me escape Diego's clutches, and helped me take good care of my kids like they were his.
Leon noticed my distress and approached me. "Welcome home dear, what's wrong? You looked bothered"
I hesitated for a moment, unsure how much to reveal. But Leon had earned my trust. "Diego showed up at the hospital today."
Leon's expression darkened. "What happened?"
I recounted the encounter, leaving out the parts where Diego's proximity had left me breathless.
Leon's jaw clenched. "You're safe now. I won't let him hurt you or the kids."
I smiled weakly, knowing Leon couldn't promise that.
After putting the kids to bed that night, I took a deep breath pulled out my phone, and dialed the hospital's HR department. "I'm quitting, with immediate effect," I said, trying to sound calm.
The woman on the other end hesitated. "Sofia, is everything okay? You're one of our best nurses, why're you quitting?."
"I'm fine ma'am, just...personal reasons," I stammered, unsure how much to reveal.
She pressed for more information, but I remained firm.
After the call, I erased my personal information from the hospital's records.
I sat at my bedroom table, opened my laptop, and began the tedious process of erasing my digital footprint.
First, I accessed the hospital's employee portal. The first hurdle, changing the password. That was easy.
Next, I navigated to the personal information section, I deleted my address, phone number, Email, and any mention of my previous life.
But I knew this was merely surface level. Diego's resources could dig deeper.
I needed expert help. "Leon."
I called him, and he arrived in the room within a minute.
"Do you need anything?" he asked, his expression serious.
"I need to erase my digital trail, please help me," I said
Leon nodded and took my laptop. His fingers flew across the keyboard.
"Where did you learn this?" I asked, mesmerized.
"Let's just say...varied experience."
Within minutes, Leon Deleted my hospital records, Removed online profiles, Created fake digital identities, and Covered tracks.
"Diego's team will struggle to find you now," Leon said, handing me the laptop.
But I knew better, Diego's determination was unyielding.
It was a desperate attempt to shield my new life from Diego's prying eyes. New identity, new home, new beginnings.
But I knew it wouldn't be enough, Diego would find me.
Unless...
I thought of Leon, who had promised to keep me safe. But I couldn't rely on him forever.
"I need a plan," I said to myself. "A plan to keep Diego away from my kids, a plan to protect my new life."
As I lay on my bed, my mind raced with possibilities, I knew I had to take drastic measures.
Tomorrow, I'd start fresh. New job, New contacts, New everything.
But tonight… Tonight, I'd hold my babies close and cherish this fragile sense of safety.
Because tomorrow was uncertain And Diego was closing in
I went to the hospital the next day with a letter of resignation of quitting my job. Citing personal reasons. My colleagues were shocked, but I couldn't risk Diego showing up again.
I had erased my personal information from the hospital's records the previous night, hoping it would help keep Diego from finding me.
But I knew it was just a temporary solution.
Diego is a Rogue alpha with vast resources and if he wanted to find me, he would in no time. But at least I'll try as much as I can to protect my children and my newfound happiness.
I knew quitting my job was just the first step I needed to take.
I spent the next few days gathering documents, saving money, and planning our escape.
Leon helped me find a small cottage in a secluded town, very far from Diego's reach.
"We'll start fresh," Leon said, his eyes filled with determination.
I nodded, feeling a glimmer of hope.
But Diego's resources were vast. I knew he'd stop at nothing to find me.
I changed our names, got new IDs, and erased our identity from the surroundings.
The crunch of gravel beneath Leon's tires signaled our departure from the only life I'd known for years. My heart ached as we left the familiar behind, but fear of Diego's wrath pushed me ahead. I glanced at the rearview mirror, watching the house fade into the distance.
The kids sensed my anxiety but were excited about the adventure.
"Mommy, are we going on a treasure hunt?" Emily asked, her eyes sparkling.
I forced a smile. "Something like that, sweetie."
"Where are we going?" I asked Leon, my voice barely above a whisper.
"Willow Creek," he replied, his eyes locked on the road ahead. "A small town, far from Diego's reach."
I nodded, hope flickering within me. Maybe, just maybe, we could start anew.
The hours departed in silence, the landscape changing course from urban to rural. Rolling hills and dense forests enveloped us, a soothing ointment for my frazzled nerves.
As twilight approached, Leon turned onto a dirt path, leading us to a secluded cabin. The kids swirled, yawning, as we pulled up to our new home.
"Welcome to your new home," Leon said, smiling.
Tears filled up the corners of my eyes. This man, a stranger whom I met just four years ago had become our guardian angel.
The cabin's rustic charm enveloped us, a friendly embrace. I began unpacking as the kids explored their new surroundings.
Days blended as we settled into our new life. I found a job at the local clinic, the kids enrolled in school, and Leon remained ever vigilant.
As we settled into our new life, I began to relax. Maybe we'd finally found a haven. But the fear lingered.
But Diego's silence unnerved me. Was he planning something? Waiting for the perfect moment?
The fear of Diego finding me once more enveloped me, I know how mysterious Diego could be, he shows up where you least expect him.
One night, as I put the twins to bed, I heard a strange noise outside our house.
My heart raced, and I quickly grabbed a nearby baseball bat.
Leon's calm voice reassured me. "It's just a raccoon Sofia."
I exhaled, feeling relieved and foolish at the same time. But the incident reminded me, I could never let my guard down.
Diego could appear at any moment.
Weeks turned into months, and our new life became a daily routine.
The twins thrived in their new school and Leon and I grew closer by each passing day.
One evening, as I tucked the kids into bed, Leon's knock on the door sent my heart racing.
"What's wrong?" I asked, sensing his unease.
"Diego's men were spotted nearby," Leon whispered, his eyes scanning the surrounding woods.
My world crumbled at the sound of Diego "Our haven is breached," I whispered, fear clawing at my throat.
"He'd found me again, No, not again." I thought I was safe here at least but I was wrong. It seemed Diego would find me no matter how long it'd take him.
Leon's jaw clenched. "Pack your bags Sofia. We'll leave tonight."
I nodded, numb. Where could we go? Who would protect us?
As we fled into the night, Diego's presence loomed a constant threat.
Would we ever be free?
We drove through the night, the moon casting a soft glow on the deserted highway. Leon's eyes never left the rearview mirror, his tension palpable.
"Where are we going?" I asked again, my voice barely audible.
"Someplace safe," Leon replied, his jaw set.
But where was safe?
Diego's reach seemed limitless.
Hours passed, and the landscape shifted from rural to urban. City lights twinkled on the horizon, and my heart sank.
"Leon, where—"
"Trust me," he interrupted, his gaze locked on the road.
We navigated the city streets, stopping at a nondescript motel. Leon ushered us into a room, locking the door behind us.
"For tonight," he said, his eyes never leaving mine. "We'll regroup tomorrow."
I nodded, exhaustion claiming me.
As I drifted off, Leon's whispered promise echoed in my mind.
"I'll keep you safe."
But could anyone truly protect us from Diego's wrath?
