Chapter 97 At The Armani
Romeo gave her a gentle smile and smoothly caressed her cheek. "When we get to that bridge, we will know how to cross it. Bit firstly... You have to come over to my place to see my parents... Tomorrow."
Cara choked on her words as she wanted to speak.
That was how she found herself in the living room of the most prominent family in the entire state. Sitting in a living room as luxurious as heaven.
She swallowed hard, trying not to choke on her own saliva.
A brown haired middle aged lady walked into the living room, dressed in a silvery mini length dress and perfectly shone black pair of heels. Her hair was made into a tight bun and her lips were adorned by a light shade of red.
She walked in, looking younger than Cara thought she might be. A bright smile played on her face as she came in with elegant strides and both of her hands were fixed in front of her. She gave a deep bow of her head and straightened herself once more, "lady Smith? Mr and Mrs Armani will be with you shortly, I advise you to keep calm and relax."
Cara wondered how she could ever relax with the pressure she was feeling tightening her chest. The lady standing in front of her was a house maid yet she was dressed in a silvery dress that Cara would have thought was beautiful enough to wear out for a formal occasion.
Yet she gave a nod of her head and managed a smile. As the lady turned to leave-- after another deep bow--, she called out to her, "uh excuse me?" The lady stopped and turned around to face Cara, "when will Romeo get here?"
The lady smiled. "Young master Armani went to attend to a very important business matter and will not be around until later tonight. If you have a message to pass to him, you will have to wait until he arrives."
Cara blinked, her mind blanked. Romeo was not around and he would not be around until later in the night? So she was supposed to face his parents on her own???
The maid gave a last bow and turned to walk away.
Cara sprang to her feet as she saw two figures walking into the living room side by side. She needed no one to tell her who they were, looking at their composure alone was more than enough to tell her who they were.
The lady gave an even deeper bow to them as she sighted them and they both acknowledged her presence with a simple shared smile. The lady left them alone in the living room and Mr and Mrs Armani sat themselves down and offered Cara a seat.
Cara sat down, trying to calm her nerves. "Good morning sir and ma'am, it is an honor to meet such prominent people in person."
Mrs Armani's lips twitched into a slight smile. "You are welcome into our home, Cara Smith, my name is Tori and this is my husband, Marcus."
Marcus gave a soft smile but said no words. Cara did not know whether to feel more anxious or feel relaxed by his actions.
She managed a smile. "Yes, thank you for welcoming me into your home. I am sincerely honored."
Tori waved her off with her hand, a smile on her face. "Please, drop the formalities. We are going to be a family soon so we don't have to act like this with each other."
Cara felt flustered, rather than feeling more relaxed, she felt anxious. Tori was being nice to her, was that something she was supposed to be worried about or was it something that ought to make her feel relaxed?
She gave a startled jump as her phone started ringing. Letting out a nervous chuckle after realizing that it was just her phone that was ringing, "sorry about that, it took me by surprise."
Tori gave a nod of her head. "Well answer your call. It might be a call from work after all."
"Right." Cara responded. She took her phone and was surprised to see that it was Romeo that was calling her. "Please excuse me, it is Romeo that is calling." Her words felt awkward to her own ears.
After receiving a nod from both of them, she picked up her phone and excused herself from the living room. "Hello? Romeo, why am I hearing it from someone else that you will not be around until later in the night?!" She demanded in a harsh whisper.
"I know and I am sorry. I did not mean to leave you on your own, my mom and dad asked me to tend to this business last minute and I could not say no. It is a multi billion dollar work and I cannot lose it."
She felt guilty about being angry at him but it was not her fault, she was just feeling very nervous. She let out a soft sigh. "It's alright. I was just not expecting to be facing them all alone. What am I going to do?"
"It's alright. You are going to be fine. It has been concluded, trust me on that part. I know that my parents just want to test you without me being around and knowing you and knowing them, I can tell that they will love you for who you are." His words were as soft and sweet as his voice.
It was as if listening to his voice was a melodious and compelling song that calmed her nerves. She felt compelled to be relaxed. "Thank you so much, I really needed to hear from you."
"I am sorry once again, I love you so much and nothing is going to change anything. Trust me. I will do everything I can to seal this deal within the next few hours so I can make it back earlier than supposed. Don't worry, okay?" His voice was so assuring.
She responded and they said their goodbyes. Taking in a deep breath, she let out a heavier sigh and was finally feeling a little less tense.
'Okay, let's do this...'
