Chapter 61 Any Marshal Plan
Several minutes passed by, Jessica laid in bed as if she were dead. Staring at the tall ceiling of her room and being unable to piece her thoughts together.
Her own husband had held a knife at her and threatened her to kill herself or he would do it for her.
It didn't make any sense at all! How could a man change so drastically over the period of a year? Just one year! He used to love her and cherish her and even worship her just a year ago but now he didn't mind if she lived or not.
He would even help speed up her death!
For the first time since she was laid to bed by the maids, Jessica turned to lay on her side, looking away from the ceiling for once.
Her room was large and richly decorated with all the treasuries she had hoped for once she married him. She had married Chris for his money, the fame and power that came with being a Knowles woman but did she ever really stop to think about what it was like on the inside?
Were these the things Cara had to tolerate while being Chris' wife? Why did she feel like Cara had it better than her?
Tears clouded her vision as several suspicions clouded her sense of clear reasoning.
The dark thought to kill Chris and flee with his money and her son crawled into her mind but she let it slip. If she did that then she would just move from being a rat in a cage to a fugitive who had to find another cage to live in.
That wasn't next on her plan, at least not yet.
She needed a way to get back to Chris' mind, to make him fall in love with her again. To make him think of her the way he used to and to give him the sense that he needed to protect her. That way, his vicious mother and father wouldn't be able to bully her anymore.
And if that didn't work... Then she would find a reason for him to fear her and do whatever she said. Like a master and her puppet. Not even a slave.
A slave was permitted a mind of his own, to think for himself. To ponder on his master's orders and give suggestions to his master's plan.
But a puppet, a puppet just waited and let its strings be pulled. It waited for a command before it began to dance. Waited for a command before it opened its mouth to speak. Couldn't possibly think for itself unless its master told it what to do.
That was what she wanted to make of Chris. Not a man who listened to her suggestions, but a man who did her bidding.
Cara smiled. "Firstly, I think Romeo is very funny, smart and caring. For once, I have never had this sense of insecurity around him. He makes me laugh whenever I need it and is always there somehow in my sad times to console me.
"He relates wonderfully with my parents and even enjoys their food like it was a home cooked meal."
"That's because it was." Romeo chirped in. "Your house is my home, Cara. Your family is mine."
"He is also very cheesy." Cara added and they shared a warm laugh. With a gentle sigh, she continued. "Most importantly, he knows how to love. He waited for me all these years, and even after I married someone else, he didn't hesitate to help me when I needed him."
"Wait so you're married?" Camilla asked the question with a confused look playing on her face. "Like you two are just hooking up randomly?"
"Oh no no no..." Cara protested softly with a wave of her hand. "Uh... I am a divorcée so..." Her lips twitched into a sad smile.
"Ohh... Can we know what happened?" Camilla inquired.
"She doesn't have to share that." Romeo had gone full protective mode in an instant. His expression had grown serious.
"No it's fine." Cara responded. "Uhm... My husband-- uh ex husband-- is Chris Knowles and we were together for a few years until he cheated on me last year with my best friend and got her pregnant." She smiled weakly.
"Oh... I feel so bad that I asked." Camilla purred.
"It's okay. It's not something that actually bothers me anymore because even with such a terrible past, I still found an amazing man to love me for me. So it doesn't matter who I was with in the past or what he did to me. I'm with someone new and better."
Camilla nodded. "Yeah that's true but I still want to hug you."
Before Cara could even word a response, Camilla rose to her feet and wrapped her arms around Cara in a warm embrace. "Oh... Uh... Thanks...?" Cara uncertainly responded.
With a smile, Camilla released Cara from her hold and went back to cuddling her fiancé.
"Way to go Camilla," Andrew stated. "You just had to start with the most sentimental question of the season."
"Were you touched by my words?" Cara grinned.
"No, no, don't flatter yourself Darling." Andrew responded, though it was a lie as transparent as a see through glass. "Alright, back to your seat, doll faced." He rose to his feet and took the center stage Cara had just been standing.
Cara on the other hand had kissed Romeo on the cheek and sat down on the empty seat next to him. She felt more comfortable that way.
"Alright," Andrew drew in a breath through his lips. "I think we should ditch everything that comes with sentimentalism and focus on the fun things. For starters, questions like... Romeo, when was the last time you spent over a million dollars?"
"Uhm... You're standing in one of my expenses?" Romeo's brow arched as he responded.
"Oh... Right. Dumb question. Moving on, uhm..." Andrew thought for a second and then lit up like a light bulb. "Are there any plans for marriage between the both of you?"
Cara's smile disappeared.
