Chapter 36 Unfortunately
Crouching to the floor, she picked up one of the scattered papers on the ground and just like he had hinted on, it was a divorce paper. Tears trailed down her face as her heart wrenched. "You are going to divorce me?" Her voice shook as she spoke.
"No no," Chris responded. "Those aren't meant for me. They are meant for you. You will divorce me when you can no longer live by my rules but if my plan works out perfectly then yes, I will divorce you."
She looked up at him, teary eyed. "Chris, this isn't--"
"See you at home darling." His lips curved into a mocking smile. Running his hand through his hair, he returned both of his hands into his pocket and walked out of the room, hitting Jessica with his leg on his way out.
She fell to the ground as more tears poured down her face. Why was this happening to her? Was it Cara's wish for bad luck to befall her happy marriage that was coming true?
Yes! It had to be that! Because she didn't want to believe that it was Chris who had been such a mighty jerk from the very start.
Wiping her tears away, she began to pick up the scattered pieces of paper, she wasn't going to use it, not in that life or the next, but she didn't want to leave it lying on the floor as well.
'Let's burn it, yeah, let's do that.' She told herself as she picked them up. Nothing will make her divorce him. Not even Cara.
"You just wait and see what I will do to you, Cara Smith." She spoke into nothingness in the distance. "Just wait till I get my revenge on you. I'll make you wish you had never met Chris in the first place!"
Cara scratched at her ear, wondering why it was suddenly itchy but disregarded any serious thought about it.
She had finished changing into the red dress Romeo said he liked. She wanted to wear another one, but a part of her wanted to please him.
Knocking on the glass to call his attention, the door to the driver's seat opened and he got back into the car.
His lips curved into a gentle smile, his dimples penetrating inside. "You look just as beautiful as when I first saw the dress on you earlier."
She cleared her throat, trying to fight back the hotness she felt from burning through her cheeks. Yet her lips curved into a shy smile. "Thanks. Shall we get going?"
"We still have time." He said while staring at his wrist watch. He looked back up at her. "I don't want to hurry her. Where should we go? We can't eat anything before we get ourselves filled up."
"Actually, I want us to go now because I have a few things to say to my dad. Plus, Miranda is probably done and waiting for us. Besides, who says we can't be an hour early?" She implied with a smile.
"Well it's almost two hours but okay, seatbelt please." He told her as he fastened his own seat belt.
She nodded and began to wrap the belt around herself but stopped. She found herself smiling when she remembered a movie she had seen.
A girl was in the car of the guy she liked and when he asked her to do her seatbelt, she pretended like it was stuck and then the guy leaned in closer to help her. Being so close, the guy looked at her and kissed her.
Would it work if she tried to pull a petty trick like that?
Wait what? Why would she try to pull a petty trick like that in the first place? The smile on her face disappeared and her cheeks burnt red. 'Are you crazy, Cara?! Why would you even think about something like that?! Are you starting to lose your mind?!'
"Are you okay?"
She turned around to look at him staring at her with an arched brow. "Huh?"
"You look so hot." He plainly said.
Her eyes widened and her cheeks burnt a deeper shade of red. "What?! Why would you say that?"
"What did I..." Realization hit him hard on the face. "No, I didn't-- I meant-- your face, your face is red so I thought you were hot, i mean heat, you know."
"Ohh, oh uh..." Clearing her throat. "Yeah, no, I uh... I thought... Nevermind."
"Is your seatbelt stuck?" He asked, nudging his head at the seatbelt she was still holding in her hand halfway.
"What?" She looked down at it and realized she was yet to hook it firmly around her waist.
"Do you need my help?" He reached forward but flinched backwards as she yelled.
"No!" Batting her lashes repeatedly, she spoke in a more gentle tone. "I mean... I got it. Just drive." She finally hooked it.
He breathed out softly. "Want to tell me why you looked like you were in a conflict with yourself?"
"Just drive Romeo."
"Okay, Carina." He smiled softly at her before he started to drive.
Turning her head to the glass, she was smiling again. She bit down on her lower lip while asking herself why she was being so foolishly dramatic.
Romeo turned to look at her and smiled.
Their car pulled up at the entrance of her parents house and Romeo got down in time to open the door for her.
Walking towards the entrance, the door pulled open and Miranda walked outside to greet them. "I have been waiting for you!" She exclaimed as she opened her arms to hug him.
"We are early but sorry for keeping you waiting." Romeo said with a gentle smile on his lips as he hugged her back.
Cara had expected the hug to be for her and she stared confusedly at both of them as they hugged as if they were related.
Her parents probably liked Romeo as much as she did, but she could never be with him. Unfortunately...
