Chapter 15 At The Court
The time slowed down and she was grateful for it because she could stare into his eyes longer. His smile, those beautiful green orbs he called eyes, his everything! How could she not stare?
She was always the kind to stop and appreciate a work of art.
“So do you… do you need me to come with you?” His honey tone made her sway.
She blinked. “Huh? Oh sure! Yeah, I mean… I could use the company. I didn't tell anyone back at home it was today because I knew they would flood the place and make a scene.”
“Good choice.” He responded then let out a soft laugh. “Let's go.”
With a nod, she closed the door and followed him.
While inside his car, she kept tugging at her dress to somehow make it longer and cover up her legs. She felt uncomfortable revealing so much– too much even!-- but sadly, her dress didn't become any longer.
Romeo smiled softly. Putting his BMW on autopilot, he took off his jacket and covered her legs without saying anything.
She was surprised but more ashamed. She had hoped he hadn't noticed her weirdness. She bit down on her lip. “I didn't–”
“I won't ask why you are putting on the dress because I already know why,” he had cut her off. “But I want you to know that you don't have to prove anything to anyone because you are perfect enough without showing so much skin.”
He turned his head to look at her and smiled, his darn dimples taunting her, before looking back to the road and returning the car to pilot mode.
Tears threatened to fall down her eyes and she blinked them away. She felt ridiculous now, putting herself in such a condition just to make her cheating husband feel jealous. She turned her head and looked out the window, not uttering another word till they reached their destination.
As the car stopped, they removed their seatbelts and before she even realized it, his hand reached for her legs and grabbed his jacket.
The shame suddenly filled her up enough to churn her stomach once more. Was she really going to go out like that?
She breathed heavily.
After putting on his jacket, he touched her hand gently and she turned to look at him.
Anger glinted in her eyes, anger fueled by embarrassment. Yet his touch almost made her weaver. Almost.
He knew what his words had done to her even though it was not in his intention to upset her. “Carina, when I said what I said earlier, I didn't mean–”
“I get it.” She rudely cut him off. “You don't have to explain further, I already feel stupid for coming out like this.”
She made to leave the car but he grabbed her hand. His grip was firm but not too tight to hurt.
“Hear me out.” His voice had run soft and gentle. “What I meant was… you look sexy, too sexy for that bastard. He doesn't deserve to see you like this, at least not anymore, Carina. Today, you are over flowing with beauty and I don't want you to feel any less confident.
“When I said you are perfect, I meant it. Too perfect to exist. Someone new and worth it should be who you are trying to impress with these kinds of killer looks, not that good for nothing.”
Relief washed over her the moment those words hit her. Realization dawned upon her and now she felt stupid for misinterpreting his words. His soft voice made his explanation more clear and understanding and she wanted to apologize but he didn't give her the time to.
Letting go of her hand, he opened the door to his side and got down to help her open hers.
She stepped down more confidently now, not that her face wouldn't redden when she got a few glances from men and even women, but at least she knew she looked good.
Chris and his newly betrothed were waiting outside the building so they could all go in together when it was their turn.
Cara was grateful to have come with Romeo, else she would have cowered back at their sight. But now, it infuriated her, fueling the pride and nonchalance that grew inside of her.
Chris felt a strange feeling inside of him as he sighted his soon to be ex wife approaching him along side her new boyfriend. Part of it was anger but most of it was admiration.
She was too beautiful not to stare. Every time, he kept comparing her to Jessica. Jessica was putting on a white dress that reached her knee and it was nowhere near sexy. Just official looking.
He too had put on a suit thinking it would match the event of the day but staring at Romeo now, he wished he had put on something simpler that still reeked of wealth and hotness.
He stared down at his wrist watch and the one around Romeo's wrist as the playboy looking hottie raised his hand to run it through his hair.
It was the same brand, except Romeo's was the latest edition and his, one done a while back. He wished he could take it off and throw it somewhere so they wouldn't see.
Cara smiled as she stopped in front of them. “Hey guys.”
“Cara,” Chris said strictly. “What makes you think it is alright for you to come to court with your boyfriend?” His voice was firm.
She chuckled lightly. “And what makes you think it's fine for you to come here with your girlfriend?”
“She is more than a girlfriend.” Chris defended.
“Sorry,” Cara said, “baby mama.”
Jessica's eye brow rose irritatedly but she managed a smile. “Hello Cara, I've missed you.”
Cara rolled her eyes. “Sorry, I can't say the same about you.”
Jessica growled underneath her breath. ‘What a btch!’
A dark and menacing smile crawled and nested on Cara's face. ‘I could say the same about you.’ She thought to herself.
