Chapter 80
“Alpha can I borrow you for a minute please?” The doctor says as he sticks his head in the room.
“Yes, doctor. I will be right back baby.” Jake kisses her knuckles and nods to Greg to stay.
Jake follows the doctor to another room. There is another doctor in the room they both enter.
“Hello Alpha. This is Dr Hayes. She is the obstetrician that will be delivering the pups. I thought it would be a good idea to talk before we let the Luna know what is going on.”
Jake sits down across from Dr Hayes. “Is everything okay?”
“Yes I can assure you everything is okay with the pups. They are both just large for their age so we will have to deliver them early but the bigger they get the higher risk it becomes for the Luna. She will most likely be delivering my c-section.”
“You say they are large for their age. Is it possible they are older than you think they are?”
“I don’t believe so. They appear to be about 11 weeks right now but their size puts them at 15 weeks. All their development is on track with 11-week-old pups.”
“So, if she has to deliver early, when are you thinking she’ll have to deliver?”
“I think it’s highly likely she will have to deliver at 30 weeks to reduce the risk of her dying during their birth.”
Jake looks at Dr Hayes with wide eyes. “Will they all make it if you deliver at 30 weeks?”
“Yes I have every confidence they will all be okay. I do want to go in and do an ultrasound now with your Luna and let her know what we found. Do you think she can handle the news now or should we wait?”
“No, we need to tell her now. It would be better for her to know now.”
“Okay let’s go to your Luna then Alpha.”
Jake leads the 2 doctors out. Dr Hayes grabs the ultrasound machine as they head into the room.
“Beta, could you wait outside?” Dr Swift says.
“Yes, doctor.”
‘Greg get the girls and Jim here now.’
‘Is everything okay?’
‘For now, but she might need support.’
‘Okay Alpha. I will call them up.’
“Baby this is Dr Hayes the obstetrician. She is going to be the one to deliver our pups and she wants to check them out now.”
“Oh, yay I’ve been wanting to see them. Yes please.”
“This gel might be a little bit cold Luna.”
“That’s okay.” Sonya grabs Jake’s hand and squeezes gently.
The doctor puts the gel on her lower belly and runs the wand over her belly. She puts the pups heart beats on the speakers and Sonya starts crying.
Jake kisses her hand. “That’s a beautiful sound.”
Sonya smiles at Jake.
“Okay Luna so both pups are looking great. They are measuring quite large for their age.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“We might have to deliver them earlier than normal and you will probably have to have a c-section.”
Sonya squeezes Jake’s hand harder. “That’s risky though. Will the pups be okay?”
“Once I have you in the operating room to deliver I can have them out in under a minute if necessary so I’m not too worried about them.”
“So, you are worried about me? What are the risks for me?”
“Luna, I think we should let you get healed up and then we can talk more.”
“No, you will tell me now Doctor.”
Jake looks at the doctor and nods for them to tell her. “Due to their large size the stress of their size could put too much pressure on your body causing bleeding and/or death.”
Sonya gasps and Jake bends down and hugs her tight.
“Luna, we will not let that happen. You will need to be on bed rest and we will continue to boost their development while you are pregnant so if we have to take them early they will have a better chance of surviving.”
“Is that safe though?” Sonya asks in a shaky voice.
“That is the safest way. We will be monitoring you on a continuous basis. You shouldn’t be walking unnecessarily. No training. Basically, you shouldn’t do anything but eat, sleep, shower, and go to the bathroom. That’s it.”
“What about sex?” Sonya asks.
“Baby stop.” Jake says.
“No, if I can’t even walk I want some fun.”
“It’s okay. That is actually the most asked question with news like this so it’s nothing to be embarrassed or guilty about asking. Yes sex is fine but you have to be supported and no standing. That’s really my only requirement. No standing. You can lay down or on all fours, anything like that but no standing at least not for long periods of time anyway. Say no longer than 15 minutes.”
“Thank you doctor.” Jake says with a chuckle.
“Of course. Now do you want to know the genders?”
“You can see that already. I thought we couldn’t see them for a while yet.”
“Normally we’d have to wait but with them being larger than normal we can already see.”
“What do you think baby?” Jake asks.
“Yes let’s know. Is that okay?”
“You don’t need to ask me that. Of course, that’s okay.”
“Alright let’s look.” Dr Hayes turns the screens towards them and says, “Baby A this is the larger of the two and it’s a boy. Baby B is a little bit smaller and it is a girl. So, one of each. Let’s print you off some pictures of the babies. Then we can leave you alone to get some sleep.”
“Luna I am going to move you into a larger bed as well.”
“Okay that would be great.” Sonya says.
