Chapter 65 65
Alexandra's eyes opened slowly, her head banging as it did. A duvet was laid over her, the soft material almost making her groan. Where was she?
She looked around the house, it felt overly familiar. She blinked, it was her room. The room she shared with Liam few years back. Why was she here? She got up from the bed. Last thing she remembered, was falling in the prison when Liam confessed the truth to her. She blinked, he had been threatened with her life? By who? Who would want their divorce so bad? Stella? But she wasn't sure Stella could do all those threatening? Unless Ryder had been helping her at that moment too.
She walked towards the drawer, her hands slightly touching the drawers, it was so clean. Evidence Liam lived here. She walked into the walk-in wardrobe, staring in shock. All of her things were intact. She was sure during those five years she left, Stella had been here. How had he kept all of her things safe?
Something hit the ground lightly beside her and she turned to look. A brown file. She picked it up, pulling the file upwards.
DIVORCE AGREEMENT. was boldly written. Her heart beat increased rapidly, her heart beating so expressly against her ribcage like they were in a war zone. It couldn't be true, it just couldn't be true. Alexandra couldn't breath as she pulled out the paper. Yeah, her signature was right there. Her name, his name, everything. She couldn't leave even if she wanted to. Because he never submitted the paper. For the three months he had to, Liam never submitted it. It was useless now. Expired. No court would ever use this. She had thought he did, but he didn't.
She walked out slowly of the wardrobe and her gaze met Liam's who was standing with a food tray in his hands.
“This-” Alexa raised her hand, shaking the file with pure disappointment. Whenever she thought they could have the chance again. He always had a way of making her go nuts cos of him.
“Explain it.” She licked her lips, her eyes glassy once again. It was just so early in the morning and she might have to start with the shattering of her heart. She just couldn't take this.
“Alexandra,” he placed the tray on the table slowly, walking towards her, “I can -”
“Did you….think I was easy? Just because you didn't submit the divorce papers, could you exercise your rights over me? You wanted to divorce me yet you didn't want me to leave… how could you-”
“I was forced to, okay? I didn't want to divorce you. I could never want to divorce you. I just wanted to protect you.”
“No, Liam. You should have worked to protect us. We were so so close, telling each other each and every thing but that day, you couldn't tell me you saw Stella. It was one secret and after that, you couldn't tell me if you met her again, another secret, after that, you couldn't tell me what made you change, the third one, Liam and after that an after that -” she broke down in tears but still continued. She might never be able to say it again, “You didn't tell me my life was being threatened because I was with you.”
“How could I be so selfish as to keep you by my side, Alexa? You mean the world to me. What could I do if you died?” He asked, tears escaping his own eyes too.
“If I died.” She muttered. “we might have found a way around it, Liam but you kept secrets. That as your first mistake and second, you sent me away with a desire to live. A desire to venge.” She shook her head.
“That's was the only way I knew you could leave, Alexandra. I'm sorry.” He muttered, grasping her hands.
“Is there anything I need to know? Like, did you cheat with Stella during that time?” She asked.
“Once.” He whispered.
She scoffed lightly, “I knew it.” She muttered.
“Thank you, Liam.” She pulled her hands away from his and squeezed the divorce papers into his, before she walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. She stopped at the door, her back resting on it.
And for the first time, she had never heard and she thought she wouldn't, the sobs that escaped from the room. Liam cried.
“Alexandra Chapman has strangely and easily been free of her crimes after a series of proofs anonymously came in yesterday, earning her her release. She had formerly been charged with smuggling activities, spying and payment of bribe to be chosen as the runner of the world's fashion week for New York. Government contemplated the withdrawal of this offer since her overall rating had gone down in just a few minutes. But right now, after the clarification, it seemed everything was just a confusion and an attack to bring her brand down. However, we are faced with the commotion right now in Velvet Vixen, where Ryder Welland took over Velvet Vixen last night as the chairman of the corporation and where he also signed a deal stating that Velvet Vixen would be am affiliate company under Helix and Co. A word which had left everyone shocked. Remember that Ryder Welland purchased 36% of Velvet Vixen's shares by acquirement and with a vote of 10% made it over the top, winning with a margin of 6%. However, now that Alexandra is back, we wonder if the remaining 14% of the corporation would vote for her to get her status back. We await her press conference by 10 am this morning. The News.”
