Chapter 22 Her Changed Behaviour
As soon as I step into the living area, my feet freeze in place. My eyes lock onto the person standing in front of me, and I am completely stunned. Right there, facing me, stands Diana. Her mere presence makes the air feel heavy.
Seeing the shock on my face, a poisonous smile slowly spreads across Diana’s lips. She is sitting on the sofa beside Michael. The moment her gaze falls on me, she rises calmly and walks toward me at an unhurried pace. There is a strange pride and sharpness in the way she moves.
Stopping right in front of me, she speaks in a sweet voice laced with venom, “Aww… my baby Sara, how are you?”
I don’t say anything. I just stand there silently. Diana steps even closer and, without permission, places her hand on my cheeks. Then, scanning me from head to toe, she taunts, “You look so weak. Has Michael started loving you a little too much that you’ve become this frail?”
Her words make me feel deeply embarrassed. I lower my eyes. Michael keeps his gaze fixed on his phone, as if he isn’t hearing any of this. Diana grabs my hand and pulls me toward the sofa. Then, pretending to show concern, she looks at Michael and says, “Hey Michael, that’s not good. Look at her she looks so weak. Why don’t you take better care of her?”
That’s when my eyes fall on a tiny little soul sitting quietly on the sofa. A small girl, around three years old, sits there silently. I am even more surprised when I see her. She is incredibly adorable and cute. Without realizing it, my eyes remain fixed on her.
I ask softly, “Who is she?”
Diana replies coldly, without any emotion, “Actually, she’s my daughter.”
Hearing that, I am completely shocked. I immediately look at Michael. He looks back at me and slightly shakes his head in a silent no. Diana then adds, “She’s from my first husband.”
I manage to say only, “Oh…”
My gaze returns to the little girl. She looks slightly scared, as if unaware of her surroundings. I move closer, sit beside her on the sofa, and gently say, “Hello, baby.”
She looks at me, and suddenly an innocent smile spreads across her face. In her tiny voice, she says, “Hello, aunty!”
My heart melts instantly. Smiling warmly, I ask her, “What’s your name, baby?”
In her sweet, innocent voice, she replies, “Ira.”
A smile automatically appears on my face. I lean forward and place a loving kiss on her cheek. Just then, Diana says carelessly, “Don’t worry, I won’t come between you two anymore.”
Hesitantly, I ask, “If you don’t mind, may I keep her with me for a while?”
The moment I say this, Michael shoots me a sharp look. But Diana answers without a second thought, “Yes, sure. Anyway, I’m not particularly fond of children.”
Saying this, she turns to Michael and adds, “Come to the study, explain the deal to me.”
Michael stands up and walks toward the study with her. As she leaves, Diana turns back once and looks at me, smiling with that same poisonous grin, before the two of them disappear into the study room.
I remain standing there, unable to understand anything. My heart feels heavy. I look back at little Ira, then suddenly lift her into my arms lovingly. I place a soft kiss on her cheek and ask, “Baby, do you like chocolate?”
In her innocent voice, Ira replies immediately, “Yes.”
Smiling, I say, “Then come, let’s eat some chocolate.”
With that, I carry her in my arms and walk to my room. I sit on the bed while Ira sits in my lap, happily eating chocolate. Seeing the innocence on her face makes my heart ache even more.
I don’t feel good, because Michael was supposed to go out with me today, but everything got canceled because of Diana. I keep looking at Ira with affection. She starts to feel incredibly dear to me.
Looking at that tiny soul, I whisper to myself, “God, may my baby also be just as innocent.”
Suddenly, with a loud bang, the door flies open. The sound is so sharp that Ira, sitting in my lap, jumps in fright. Tears instantly fill her big, innocent eyes as she clings to me in fear. My heart sinks immediately.
With angry, heavy footsteps, Mr. Wilson storms inside. His face is hard, his anger clearly visible in his eyes. Without saying a word, he shrugs off his coat and then removes his watch, placing it on the bed. Every movement he makes is filled with frustration.
I pull Ira closer into my arms, holding her protectively, and gather the courage to ask, “You were going to take me out, weren’t you?”
Without even looking at me, he replies in a rough tone, “Yes… but I’m not going anymore.”
The words hit me like a shock. I ask immediately, “Why?”
Sitting down on the bed, he answers bluntly, “My mood changed.”
His words strike my heart. Anger slowly starts building inside me too. I speak up, “So am I crazy for getting ready like this?”
He remains silent. Completely quiet. His silence hurts even more. I step in front of him angrily and ask in a raised voice, “What’s wrong? Why are you showing me so much rudeness?”
He looks at me and says coldly, “Why would I show you rudeness?”
With pain and anger mixed together, I ask, “Then why did you change your mood? At least you could have thought about me once.”
Suddenly, he looks straight into my eyes with anger. There is jealousy and irritation in his gaze. In a sharp voice, he says, “Why should I think? Did you even think about me once before saying… that Ira would stay with you for some time?”
Hearing his words, I am completely stunned. My body feels numb. I can’t believe what I just heard. I stare at him for a few moments, unable to say anything.
Only one thought keeps echoing in my mind
Is he really feeling jealous of a tiny, innocent child?
