Chapter 18: His Betrayal
I hugged Dean and Amy goodbye, they were heading back home to prepare for their move. Dean found a job locally thanks to Morgan. When he had heard of Dean's job skills, he got in touch with his boss and in no time Dean was scheduled for an interview on Monday. Dean's interview went extremely well and he was offered a position with the company Morgan worked for. Dean and Amy have decided that they will rent until their house sells back in Tennessee. They set the date to be moved here for a month from now. Amy will continue to look for work but there is no rush, I think Dean would love her to stay home, but Amy refused and compromised with him by looking for a part-time job for now. I am excited that they will be here permanently soon and offered to keep an eye out for a good two-bedroom apartment for them. I did ask Dean to keep my location confidential from Mark and to not let him help with the move here. Dean said he planned on cutting ties with Mark anyway and, not to worry, he was not going to ask Mark for help anyway. As I watched them take off, I thought about how great it will be when they are here, and I was excited that I will get to be close when their baby arrives.
I turned to walk back inside, when suddenly I heard, "Did I miss them leaving?" Turning, I saw Morgan running up to me,"Yes, sorry they wanted to get on the road before lunch. Why?" I looked at him curiously. He genuinely looked disappointed that he didn't get here in time. "I was at an appointment and I was trying to hurry to get back in time. At least they will be back soon, then maybe we can get together. Dean and I look forward to annoying you both with all our sports banter," he smirked at me.
Rolling my eyes, I walked back into my place with Morgan following. "I am sure Amy and I will be just fine finding things to entertain ourselves with. So I have to return to work tomorrow. What would you like to do today? I could use some good food. Have any recommendations since I don't feel like cooking?" There is a great diner a few blocks away, they have the best burger and fries in town."
I chuckled, "Sounds amazing, but afterwards let's take a walk in the park again, I am sure I will need it after eating that food."
The walk to the diner was peaceful, Morgan and I talking about how much fun we had over the weekend. I thanked him again for helping Dean find a job so quickly. I told him I was going to look for a potential apartment for them because they didn't want to look at houses until theirs was sold in Tennessee. "I just hope that they are careful around Mark. I don't want him to know I am here. The last thing I need is for him to know where to find me. I wouldn't put it past him to come here to try harassing me about coming back to Tennessee."
We walked into the diner and it was like stepping back in time. Everything was older and reminded me of how diners looked back in the 50's. There was even a jukebox along the wall playing a song by Elvis Presley. I loved it. I grinned and walked over to the jukebox looking at the music selection. I chose a couple of songs and then went to sit with Morgan, who was looking at the menu. We both ended up with burgers and fries, topping it off with shakes. By the time I was done eating I was stuffed and could not wait to start walking off the food. If I sat here any longer I would end up in a food coma. We walked around the park for awhile in silence before making it to our bench by the lake. We sat in silence for a while just looking out over the lake. "So how big of a place do Amy and Dean want in regards to an apartment? I was just wondering if I know of any places we could check out for them, and if they are nice we can send them the information." I loved that idea and it would help their transition here be a bit smoother. "Amy said that her and Dean would like a two-bedroom place, that way if they are still living there when the baby comes it will be big enough. Being her friend, I also know she likes places that are older that have a more homey feel to them instead of the design of some of the newer places. I would love it if we could find a place close to us so we are within walking distance of each other."
"There may be a couple places close to us now that I am thinking about," said Morgan. "Let me do some checking tomorrow and I will let you know and then we can make arrangements to go look at them and see what you think." I smiled and said "That would be wonderful, just let me know I am pretty free most evenings after work if you can arrange something then. I am too new to the area to have plans anywhere," I chuckled. Morgan laughed and we started walking towards home. I felt so at peace at that moment and I wanted this feeling to just continue forever. When we got home, I walked towards my door and turned, "Thank you for going to dinner with me and taking a walk, it was a great way to finish out my day. I am going to put on some comfortable clothes and enjoy some reading time. Call me tomorrow if you are able to arrange anything in regards to looking at any places for Amy and Dean. I would love it if we could find some possibilities for them to look through." He smiled, pulled me into a hug and again placed a kiss on the top of my head. He is always so sweet. I just smiled when I then heard, "GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY WIFE!!!"
