Chapter 118 So That’s How It Is
At that moment, the camera shook slightly, and he noticed a piece of clothing peeking out from the edge of the sofa.
That striped pattern—he knew it all too well.
Just yesterday, Olivia was wearing that cardigan.
Luca's heart raced instantly, his eyes glued to the screen.
He zoomed in on the image, staring at that bit of fabric. The more he looked, the more certain he was—it was definitely Olivia's clothes.
Could this little guy's mom be Olivia?
Luca's mind exploded with thoughts, countless ideas rushing in.
His breathing quickened, and his fingers typed rapidly in the live chat: "Leo, is that your mom next to the camera?"
Leo saw the message, looked up, and grinned at the camera, his eyes squinting with joy: "Yep! It's my mom keeping me company!"
Luca felt like something hit his heart—it ached and swelled at the same time.
He quickly took a screenshot and sent it to his assistant: "Find out everything about this kid named Leo—his birthdate, his mom's details. The more, the better!"
His assistant replied soon: "Sir, the kid's name is Leo. His mom is Olivia. He was born five years ago in July and is currently at Sunshine Kindergarten."
July.
Luca's fingers clenched until they turned white.
Five years ago in July—that was exactly nine months before their divorce.
That night, Olivia had drugged him, and they had been intimate.
So, she was already pregnant back then.
She had hidden it from him, given birth to the child alone, and raised him overseas for five years.
Luca felt a mix of anger and joy.
Anger that she kept this from him for so long, making him miss five years of his child's life.
Joy that he had such a cute son, one who somehow felt so familiar to him.
He finally understood why he felt an instant connection when he first watched Leo's livestream.
Because this was his own son.
"Find the address of Sunshine Kindergarten. Tomorrow morning, come with me," Luca said, his voice trembling with barely contained excitement.
"Understood, sir."
After hanging up, Luca reopened the livestream and watched Leo painting seriously on the screen. His eyes even started to well up.
This was his son, his and Olivia's child.
He had to claim his son back and win Olivia over again.
This time, he wouldn't let go.
The next morning, Luca couldn't wait and headed to Sunshine Kindergarten with his assistant.
The car parked across the street from the kindergarten. Luca sat inside, his eyes fixed on the entrance.
He wanted to see Leo soon but was afraid of Olivia spotting him.
Not long after, he saw Olivia walking over, holding Leo's hand.
Leo was dressed in a blue school uniform, carrying a cartoon backpack, hopping along beside Olivia while chattering away.
Olivia looked down, listening to her son with a gentle smile on her face.
Luca's heartbeat sped up. Seeing that small figure, his heart filled with guilt and love.
These past five years, Olivia must have faced so many hardships raising their child alone.
He swore to himself that he would make it up to both of them.
After Olivia handed Leo over to the teacher at the gate and turned to leave, Luca told his assistant to contact the principal.
"Tell them I'm Luca from Vettel Group, interested in investing in the kindergarten and checking out the facilities and teaching quality," Luca instructed.
Hearing about a big investor, the principal personally came out to greet him with a wide smile: "Mr. Vettel, welcome! Please, come in!"
Luca followed the principal into the kindergarten, his eyes scanning around for Leo.
"Our facilities are all brand new, and our teachers are graduates from professional schools with plenty of experience," the principal explained as they walked. "The kids here not only learn but also develop their hobbies and interests."
Luca nodded absentmindedly, his mind entirely on finding Leo.
When they reached the playground, he finally spotted that tiny figure.
Leo was playing on the slide with a few other kids, laughing brightly with two little front teeth showing.
"That's Leo, right?" Luca pointed at him, his tone a bit eager.
The principal nodded with a smile: "Yes, that's Leo! He's a very smart kid, amazing at drawing, and has a cheerful personality. All the teachers love him."
"Can I go over and talk to him for a bit?" Luca asked.
"Of course!" The principal called out to Leo, "Leo, come here for a moment!"
Hearing the call, Leo slid down the slide and ran over on his little legs: "Mrs. Morris, what's up?"
When he saw Luca, his eyes lit up, and a surprised look spread across his face: "Oh! It's you!"
Luca was taken aback: "You know me?"
"Of course I do! Last time at the airport, you saved me!" Leo looked up with admiration. "You were so cool, pushing that bad guy away in one move!"
Luca then remembered—he had indeed saved a little boy at the airport last time.
He never imagined it was Leo.
What a small world.
"You still remember me?" Luca's voice was a bit hoarse, his heart full of emotion.
"Of course I do! I even told my mom about this super awesome person who saved me!" Leo nodded hard, then asked curiously, "Mister, why are you here?"
"I'm here to check out the kindergarten and maybe invest in it," Luca said, squatting down to meet his son's eyes. "Are you happy here?"
"Yeah, I'm happy! There are lots of friends, tons of fun toys, and the teachers teach us to draw and sing!" Leo smiled so wide his eyes curved. "Yesterday, I drew a little bunny, and my mom said it looked really good!"
"Really? Next time you draw something, can I see it?" Luca asked with a smile.
"Sure!" Leo agreed right away. "Mister, do you like drawing too?"
"I do, especially if it's your drawings," Luca said, patting his head. The soft touch warmed his heart.
Mrs. Morris stood nearby, watching their close interaction with a bit of confusion but didn't ask anything.
"Mister, what's your name?" Leo tilted his head and asked.
"My name is Luca. You can call me Uncle Luca," Luca said, thinking to himself that one day he'd have him call him Dad.
"Uncle Luca!" Leo called out sweetly, then added, "I know another cool guy with an L too—his name's LO. He sends me gifts a lot. Do you know him?"
Luca's heart skipped a beat. LO was his online username.
He didn't expect Leo to remember.
"You mean the LO who sent you gifts when you were streaming your drawings? That was me," Luca admitted with a smile.
Leo's eyes widened in shock: "Really? That's awesome! Thank you for the gifts! I love them all!"
"I'm glad you like them," Luca said, feeling happy seeing his son so excited.
"Uncle Luca, can you come to the kindergarten often to see me?" Leo grabbed his hand, full of hope. "Other kids have their dads pick them up. I want you to play with me too."
Luca's heart ached sharply. Seeing the longing in his son's eyes, his throat tightened: "I can. I'll come often to see you and even pick you up after school. But you can't tell your mom."
