Chapter 117: Her Rejection, His Regret

Aaron’s POV

As I stood outside my father's room, the weight of betrayal settled heavily on my shoulders. The door before me seemed impenetrable, like a fortress guarding the truth I was about to uncover. My heart raced as disbelief and sadness swirled within me. I took a deep breath, trying to gather my composure before facing the man who had once been my hero, guide, and father.

I pushed open the heavy wooden door and stepped into the room. My father, Alpha Leon, sat behind an imposing desk, his posture exuding authority. He glanced up, a smile stretching across his face, but I saw the flicker of unease in his eyes. Did he know what I was coming to say?

"Father," I began, my voice steady but laced with restrained emotion. "We need to talk."

Alpha Leon's smile faltered, his false charm slipping away. "Ah, Aaron, my son. I've been waiting for this moment. Have you finally understood the path I have set for you?"

I clenched my jaw, fighting to keep my voice even. "This isn't about destiny, Father. It's about trust, honour, and loyalty – three things you have sorely betrayed."

His eyes narrowed, a defensive edge creeping into his voice. "What are you talking about, Aaron? Everything I have done has been in the best interest of you and this pack."

"The best interest of the pack?" I scoffed, unable to hide my anger. "Using me as a pawn, making me betray my mate and our pack, all for your selfish desires. You've brought nothing but pain and torment upon us."

Alpha Leon stood, his face contorted with anger and denial. "You don't understand, Aaron. Sacrifices had to be made. We face challenges no one would understand."

"Sacrifices?" I interrupted, my voice rising with frustration. "These were not sacrifices, Father. They were acts of deceit and manipulation. You tarnished the values our ancestors fought for."

His eyes flashed, and he took a threatening step towards me, his voice dripping with authority. "You will show me respect, boy. I am the alpha."

"Correction. I am Alpha now. Respect is earned, Father," I retorted, refusing to back down. "And you lost mine the moment you betrayed our pack and me. You conspired with the Jenkins family, endangering our existence. Your thirst for power blinded you, and in the process, you sacrificed everything."

His face twisted with fury, his words sharp. "You know nothing of sacrifice, Aaron. I dedicated my life to this pack, ensuring its survival at any cost. My actions were necessary and justified by the magnitude of our challenges. And what about that mate of yours? Hybrid blood within our family now? I don't think so.”

I held my ground. "No, Father. Sacrifice may be necessary at times, but never at the expense of our values, our integrity, and the love we hold for our pack. True leadership inspires loyalty and trust – qualities you have clearly forgotten about. I do not wish for my children to grow up in a battlefield between family.” I growled while using all my might to hold down my beast of a wolf who was desperate to get out and take over.

Silence hung heavily in the room, tension crackling in the air. My father's gaze darted around, searching for a way to regain control, but I saw no vulnerability in his facade.

Finally, his voice broke the silence, laced with a semblance of defeat. "Is this what you truly want, Aaron? To cast me aside? To discard my legacy?"

My features softened, sorrow mingling with my anger. "This is not about vengeance or punishment, Father. It's about safeguarding our pack's future. I cannot let your actions go unchecked. But rest assured, you will always hold a place in my heart as my father. However, your days end here."

His face contorted, a mix of sorrow and resentment. "So be it," he whispered bitterly.

The door behind us swung open, and I instantly knew it was my Luna Isla.

"You did all of this to us!" Isla's words pierced me like a dagger, her voice brimming with anger and hurt. The pain etched on her face tore at my soul, leaving an ache in my chest that mirrored the remorse I felt within.

"Wait. Isla, please," I pleaded, my voice strained with desperation. "I never wanted any of this to happen. I was deceived, too."

She laughed bitterly, her laughter echoing through the room. "Deceived? Do you expect me to believe that? You, the one person I thought I could trust, were in on it all along."

"No, Isla, that's not true," I insisted, my heart breaking at the disbelief in her eyes. "I swear on everything I hold dear, I had no idea about my father's plans. He kept me in the dark just as he did with you."

Tears streamed down Isla's face as she shook her head. "How can I believe you now? You betrayed me, our love, and everything we had built together."

Gently, I placed a hand on Isla's trembling shoulder, desperately hoping she would feel the sincerity in my touch. "I understand why you feel that way, Isla. But you have to believe me. I loved you with my whole being, and I still do. I would never willingly hurt you."

For a brief moment, doubt flickered in Isla's eyes, her defiance waning. "If what you're saying is true, then why didn't you protect me? Why did you let your father's plans unfold?"

My father stood silent in the background before letting out a chuckle. He had his arms over his chest and shook his head as he glared at Isla.

“Father!” I warned him off with a growl, but he ignored it.

Regret washed over me like a tidal wave as I tried to explain. "I tried, Isla, I tried my best to stop him. But my father held power, influence, and the ability to manipulate everything around him.“

“He's right. I wanted rid of you all. All your hybrids. I know all about you and your past.” my father revealed pointing a finger at my Luna.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Isla stuttered.
