Chapter 43: CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
Dante was furious. He had so much anger in him for so many reasons.
He remembered how his father had worked so hard for this pack, he had taken it from a normal pack to one feared by the entire werewolf kingdom and now, it was in shambles because of the greed of a few.
And not only did he commit so many atrocious acts that depleted the pack's resources, he had gone as far as selling off his pack members for slavery.
He went straight ahead to the meeting hall and sent a call through the pack link, commanding everyone to assemble.
There were about two thousand people still remaining in the pack territory, a far cry from the ten thousand member strong pack he had led before his forced exile.
It took them five minutes to leave everything to come answer his call, including Seth. His Alpha command was that powerful, and this showed how much of an upright Alpha he was for not killing Seth straight away and shutting down any questions about it.
But now he was regretting his actions.
“I have called you all here because there are questions that must be answered. This is not right and it is totally unacceptable that this keeps happening. Seth,” he turned to the beginning of his woes as an adult “why are you giving out the pack weapons and equipment to Jethro?” He asked directly.
Seth's eyes widened, surprised at how he figured it out. No one even knew his master's name except those that were important to his course.
He prided himself in utmost secrecy and his magical powers helped him keep a tight hand across the continent, controlling as many wolves as possible.
So when Dante asked him, he was confused for a second, unable to formulate an answer.
Murmurs started coming from the crowd as they watched his body language.
“You also mind telling everyone here, why have you been sending our pack warriors to be turned into ferals, used in destroying the wolf kingdom?”
He went deathly still, his wolf leaving his eyes as he was getting called out. He immediately began to deny it.
“I don't know what you are talking about! You are just looking for an excuse to escape the Battle of Wills! I'm prepared and ready to deal with you so stop all of these. In a week's time, I will end your miserable life so make sure you enjoy the few days you have instead of making all of these allegations.” He said and turned around to walk away but the warriors stood in his path.
Elder Tim walked out of the crowd, Terrence in tow.
“This was one of our most promising warriors, Alpha. He was training to fight in the Royal Army and he would have been one of the most brilliant warriors but you sent him to get better training and he disappeared. When these men came in, looking for work in the park, everyone thought he was crazy. This is his pack, why will he need anyone's permission to do anything? Well, over the last week, I began studying him and I noticed something was off. He was a totally different person, yet the same Terrence we always knew. So I slipped an aurora plant in his food. He remembered who he was. When the guards he was friends with came to me with his story, I was shocked to my bones. Seth, how could you do this to your own pack?” He finished, looking him straight in the eye, daring him to keep up the denial.
He obviously couldn't. His Master had assured him no one would ever find out. He didn't know how this one managed to escape.
“But you and I know that once a wolf has gone feral, there's no coming back. That Dante here did is simply because he's an Alpha. A random wolf? That's impossible. So stop lying and get out of my way, I have somewhere to be” he said, trying to leave but Dante stopped him.
He increased, doubling in size, his wolf sad but very angry making his Alpha Supreme Mode much more aggressive.
“You will tell the truth, and you will tell it now! Another lie from your lips and you will lose your ability to walk” he threatened him, his eyes shifting from gray to gold and his pores leaking a powerful aura.
“Okay, okay, fine! You win. My master doesn't want ordinary random wolves. He wants the best of the best and where else to get them than this warrior pack? He ensured he took your father out of the way and gave me the poison I gave to you. I have been ensuring he got whatever he needed to make this world bow to his rule. And guess what? Once he becomes Alpha King, I'll be his Beta as the most useful servant. He told me that himself!” He said and everyone gasped.
He then started shifting, with the obvious intention to run away.
“Guards! Get him and lock him in the underground dungeon. We are going to rescue my mate first, then we will take him straight to the Alpha King for his punishment. This is more than a crime against our pack, he has hurt the entire werewolf kingdom. He must be punished accordingly.”
There was a few minutes of tussle between them as he kept ramming into the men, trying so hard to escape.
“Kneel!” Commanded Dante and the lesser wolf in Seth obeyed immediately
He then turned around to face the elders.
“They were the check and balance of every pack and they had made Dante's rule difficult before his forced exile but when they had ample reason to be strict, they allowed the pack to deteriorate” he said to his wolf.
“I'm way more disappointed in them than that measly fool we just locked up. How can they watch the pack that their children and grandchildren are supposed to enjoy get destroyed right before their very eyes and they simply just watched?” He replied, anger pouring out them both.
“I want to know, what is the role of this seat of power that the twelve of you occupy. Kindly refresh my memory.” He turned and asked them.
At first they all looked at him like he had grown two heads. No one questioned the elders, they did the questioning. But it seemed there was a collective agreement that they had messed up. So one of them came forward.
“Alpha, we know we have disappointed our pack but we had no choice. The moment you left, the pack became infested with the feral bite and people were dying rapidly. Seth said he had a solution but it would come with several consequences. We were desperate. We agreed to give whatever could be given. We just wanted to live. Now that this has unfolded, we now know he had arranged this with that evil man and he simply told his master to redirect his dogs through another route when we agreed. I hope he gets punished severely before he's killed. We promise to henceforth do the right thing regardless of the consequences.” He explained.
“Well, one thing I know about Jethro is how cunning he can be. I'm also sure he doesn't expect me to come for my mate. Some of you here are working for him as well as reporting back every incident to him. I'm giving you a chance to repent. All you have to do is point me in the direction of his location.”
At first there were low murmurs, and suddenly many people began filing out, numbering over fifteen men and women.
“Alpha, I know where she's been kept.” one of them confessed.
