Chapter 38 Take Her Out to Play
Francis nodded slightly. It would be quite troublesome for him to find someone to help David with the lawsuit, but if Eugene's people voluntarily admitted fault, things would be much simpler. That's exactly why he was pressuring Eugene.
Aria asked who this David was, and whether Francis's conflict with Eugene was because of him.
Eugene explained that he was a small company owner, but he didn't know David had connections with Francis.
Francis smiled without revealing the truth, easing the atmosphere. He agreed to stay neutral in the competition as long as Eugene didn't provoke him, but wouldn't help recover the lost clients.
Francis never intended to break ties with the Clark family - he just wanted to teach Eugene a lesson. So in front of Aria, he only gave Eugene a bit of a hard time. But Aria's taste in men was really terrible. He couldn't see what Eugene had going for him besides his good looks. Maybe he was good at sweet-talking women - that stupid woman Jennifer had been fooled by him for years. Now the proud Aria was willing to humble herself and ask for help because of him. How rare.
After the dinner ended, Francis called a designated driver to take him home. Leaning back in the spacious rear seat, he thought about Jennifer, who had been waiting for him at home lately. These past few days they'd been sleeping together, but he'd only hugged and held her, nothing more. Because he had said he would help her solve her current troubles.
Now Eugene had backed off, but it would still take time for David's company to return to normal operations.
When he got home, Jennifer was sitting on the couch watching a movie. Hearing the door open, she immediately ran to the entrance to greet him.
Francis watched the figure running toward him, thinking she was like a cute little cat. This little cat smelled the alcohol on him and asked with concern, "I made some hangover remedy. Do you want some?"
Francis took off his coat and handed it to her, answering softly, "Sure." Jennifer had a gentle and caring personality.
After she moved in, the house was filled with many soft-colored feminine items. Francis sometimes felt the home was warmer than before. He'd dated plenty of women before, but never brought any of them home.
Now it seemed having a woman at home did have its uses. Jennifer was obedient and well-behaved - she never clung to him when he was busy with work, and never tried different tricks to get gifts.
While drinking the hangover remedy, Francis suddenly asked, "Were you like this with Eugene too?"
Jennifer's eyes, which had been earnestly watching him drink, suddenly dimmed. Her voice dropped as she said, "No, I used to live with my dad and rarely stayed out this late." She was used to making hangover remedies for David, but now David was lying sick in the hospital.
Francis raised an eyebrow. Remembering that her family's house had been sealed, he said calmly, "Don't worry, your house will be unsealed soon."
Jennifer brightened up immediately. "Really? Thank you!" Even if they got the house back, she couldn't move back home right away, but at least Marlowe could move back, and David could go home after he recovered.
Seeing her happy, he smiled slightly. After finishing the remedy, Jennifer eagerly cleaned up the dishes. She now felt Francis was really a man of his word. Although he often took advantage of her verbally and physically, he really did what he promised. Relatively speaking, she even felt she was giving too little.
Like now - she was busy clearing the table while he hugged her from behind, his heavy head resting on her slender shoulder.
Jennifer's touch was incredibly soothing after his stressful day. When he was with her, he often didn't need to think much, because she was a woman without schemes, everything she thought showed on her face. With him, she didn't seek more, just hoped he could protect her from harm. Of course, she was also a bit lustful, but that made her even more adorable to him.
"Get ready, I'll take you out to the suburbs this weekend." Francis suddenly felt inspired to take her swimming at Starglade Lake, not far from Golden Harbor. The weather was still a bit hot, and Starglade Lake wasn't very deep - perfect for playing in the water to cool off. Plus, the surrounding area was full of flowers and plants with nice scenery.
But Jennifer said with some difficulty, "The suburbs - does that mean the whole day?"
Francis replied, "Yes, I want to go swimming at Starglade Lake. If the weather's clear, we can stay there camping and watch the stars."
He looked Jennifer up and down. He'd touched her body from top to bottom and could almost imagine the wonderful sight of her in a swimsuit.
Camping and watching stars - Jennifer's eyes lit up. It sounded so romantic. But then she remembered something and said with a troubled expression, "But I have to do tutoring on weekend afternoons. The student has school Monday through Friday, so they can only have lessons on weekends."
How disappointing. Francis let her go, his expression turning cold. "The tutoring job Declan introduced? Cancel it."
Jennifer almost started crying. She gently tugged at his sleeve. "I'm sorry, but this is my only job right now. I don't want to give it up."
"Isn't the money I give you enough?"
Jennifer knew he was angry, but she still wanted to try, though her voice got smaller and smaller. "It's not that. I just want to have my own career. Even if I don't do that well, at least it makes me feel my life has meaning."
He hadn't expected someone with such a soft personality to have such ambition inside. Francis looked at her with some surprise.
Seeing he seemed to be softening a bit, Jennifer stood on her tiptoes to kiss him, but Francis didn't lower his head, and even with her best effort, she could only reach his chin. Francis laughed. "What, you want to bite me if I don't agree?"
Jennifer's cheeks flushed. "No, I'm kissing you, hoping you'll agree." He often said it was a reward when he held and kissed her, so she was giving him a reward, hoping he'd stop being angry.
Francis picked her up and put her on the couch, pressing down on her, kissing and touching her. He kissed her until she was flushed before letting go, looking at her dazed eyes and saying, "That's what you get for turning me down. How do you think you should make it up to me?"
Jennifer buried her head in his chest, listening to Francis's steady, strong heartbeat, and said shyly, "Whatever you want is fine."
Francis looked at her with burning eyes. "Really, anything?"
Jennifer nodded gently. "Yes. I'll go take a shower first." Then she tiptoed away quickly.
