Chapter 139: Recount Horror
Chapter 139: Recount Horror
Sylvia's pov.
If only Peggy wasn't a hunter.
I thought after hanging up, she was an honest friend… a good one, but if she found out what I had done to her brother by accident, I don't think she would remain the same.
If we could both come clean at the same time and put aside our differences, we could truly work this out.
But there was also risk involved, there was always risk involved.
Even the call I had just made, who knew who had used their special senses to eavesdrop on it. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
Sighing once again in defeat, plumping down in the chair as I dived deep in thought, I had to figure out a way to return to Briseville, find Donald because he was the only one that could help me.
At the same time, try not to have my pack hunting me down like a wild dog.
I groaned out loud to express my frustrations really, and now the alpha wants me to speak with Myles?
Better get it out of the way as soon as possible then.
Seconds later my phone started buzzing again, and I really didn't know that many people were calling me, glancing at the screen, I couldn't help but freeze and stare at the floating name.
Ezekiel.
Not now!
I turned the phone back around on the sofa, relaxing myself into the situation and staring up at the ceiling, my heart began aching once again, a sore feeling that didn't want to go away no matter what.
It wasn't like I wanted to ignore him, but for his own good as well as mine, I don't think we could continue being as close as we were.
I made sure my mother was comfortable before making my way to the infirmary where Myles was being kept. Apparently, the pack had suspicions that whatever Mai had would be contagious and the best way to salvage the situation was to isolate those who had come in contact with her.
Quite typical of them.
The young boy who was probably around my brother's age, sat alone on the ward bed, waiting for anyone to answer him, sadly, there was no one coming.
“Hey,” I gave a short wave, moving closer gently.
I didn't know what it was yet, but I believed it wasn't contagious.
Myles lifted his gaze, eyes filled with the terror of what they have beheld, reminded me of myself when I watched my father be executed.
Watching his sister react in such a manner, losing her mind and almost ending their mother's life. It was too much for a young boy to manage.
“Uhmmm, ho…how's your mom?”
He shrugged his shoulders, trying his best to act strong, “They say she's fine, but I haven't had the chance to see her yet,” I knew better.
A sigh escaped my lips as I approached him, sitting beside him in the ward bed, “I'm sorry you had to see your sister and your mom in those positions,” placing a gentle hand on his shoulders, only then did I feel his body trembling underneath my palm.
“It must have been awful, wasn't it?” My voice lowered less than an octave and Myles burst into tears.
All of his emotions let loose and the facade from earlier came crumbling to which I pulled him into my arms and let him have his moment.
A while passed before he finally calmed down, sniffing as he pulled away from me. Silence filled the room as I sat awkwardly.
I wanted to give him some extra time, but that wasn't feasible any longer as Prudence barged into the room unannounced and I couldn't help but roll my eyes, what was even worse, she had on a face mask.
The fuck!
Prudence's eyes shifted between me and Myles who bowed his head in respect, despite how he was feeling.
“Well, what did I miss?” Not even an ounce of pity for the young boy.
Myles also appeared perplexed however refrained from saying anything to upset ‘The Beta's daughter.’
Completely ignoring her condescending presence, I focused on Myles, “Myles, I need to ask you something important.”
Myles nodded, focusing more on me than the other person in the room, although still shaken up.
“I hate to make you remember it but, I need to know… what was it like? Your sister.”
Myles stared off into space, reminiscing about the night, his breath hitched, “It was…”
“Take your time.”
“Actually hurry up,” Prudence's interjected, causing Myles and I to whip our heads in her direction, giving her a hard look.
Myles shook it off, “Uhmm, it was…awful… weird.”
His brows narrowed, “One minute she's speaking with my mother, the next, it's like… something came over her.”
“Her eyes were glazed over… like…hardened.”
My eyes squinted trying to grasp his words carefully.
“....they turned blue, her fangs protruded, a thick coat of fur began to emanate from her skin, I tried asking her what was wrong, why she was shifting and all I got was a disgruntled growl.”
“I…froze, everything happened so fast from there, her claws came out and she swiped at my mother…” At this point, Myles was already trembling again, “I should have done something, but I didn't…”
I rubbed soothing circles on his back, “It's not your fault.”
Prudence still didn't know when to speak, “And what happened next?”
Myles pulled himself together, “uhmmm, after she swiped at my mother, she ... .she uhmmm, she…I don't know how to explain it but it was like she was fighting herself, her shift wasn't normal.”
Fighting herself?
“Standing in her wolf form, she tore through the house in this haze of hers, and then she lunged at me...”
My eyes widened in terror, “She attacked you?”
It looked like he wasn't sure of himself, “She was going for the window behind me, I was only in her way.”
“Luckily, I survived, but I couldn't do anything for my mother, other than to stare in horror while putting pressure on the large gash on her throat.”
What a horrible experience.
“Pathetic!”
