Chapter 22: Chapter Twenty-Two
Iris:
We were once more ensconced in the principal office and for someone who doesn’t get into trouble, I was even amazed at my record of ending up in this office.
I was even on a friendly first name basis with his secretary.
“Ah, Vine and Vane, it is nice to meet you.” Principal Freddy according to my mother said, beaming at the twins who had kept their expression serious since they learned that I was mated. “I love the new restructuring of power trips which you father has introduced to the wolf pack and the shifter race in general. It is pure intelligence.” Apparently, I am not the only teenager which he holds in high esteem because of our parents.
One of the twins nodded his head in acknowledgment still keeping his serious expression which was making it difficult for me to know which was which. Principal Freddy and Cirdan don’t seem to be having the same problem as me.
“I see that you have met the two highest ranking students we have, Have you taken the test yet?” He added.
“Not yet. We plan on attending the ballroom party first before we make our mind to stay after all this place is indeed far from home.” The other replied.
“That is Vine.” Cirdan voice ghosted my ear, his words were barely audible and the only reason I could hear was that he bent close to me. “It seems like he could feel my confusion through the bond and decided to settle me. “Use their auras to differentiate them, Vine aura is calmer than Vane aura, just like their personalities.” I nodded as I used beyond the physical to look at them, Using auras to know who I am talking to is easy, in fact it was a common practice here and although I have always known how to do it, My skills are rusty as I have suppressed the gift for years before coming to Faery and my father had urged me not to use it. In the sense that I couldn’t go around reading the auras of humans.
“That trick does not always work, sometimes when we are agitated, we tend to exchange those characteristics.” Vane turned to look at us.
Cirdan stiffened behind me when Vine mimic his brother's exact movement. “Super sensitive hearing, remember? It comes with the territory of being wolves.”
“I apologize for talking about you behind your backs.” Cirdan responded, tilting his head almost as if he was half showing his neck.
“It's okay, no harm no foul.” Vine quirked his lips before he turned back to face principal.
“That is not where the foul is?” Vane continued, completing his brother statement, something which they always do and if I spend more time around them, I know it was going to give me a headache.
“I don’t understand what you mean?” Principal said as me and Cirdan faced him. He was lying and his body was tensed, everybody knew it.
“You gave the news to my father, and you did not mention the fact that she has a mate.” Vine added.
“A mate who is extremely powerful just as his line is… something which you know is not allowed but you did not tell my father?”
“They are mates?” The Principal started and my mouth dropped open in surprise. He was going to deny the knowledge of us in front of others?
“Don’t play that card with us, you will not like the result.” Vane growled.
“Unbelievable.” Cirdan laughed but his laughter was a harsh sound, one that made the principal flinch.
Something else was going on here which I did not understand. “What is going on?” I asked looking from the twins to my mate to the Principal who was trying to shrink himself in size, it was not working for him because three powerful teenagers were staring at him in anger.
“Love, the principal just sold you out. What your parents was trying to avoid by coming here in disguise. They were trying to keep your identity under wraps but when you fell sick and your father exposed himself, we all suspected that the students will not keep their mouths shut and would blab about you to others and the news will spread and would probably take some time before it reaches the leaders we are trying to avoid telling. He just handcrafted a letter to tell the twins father who is one of those leaders and if I am not mistaken, he is not the only one in which the principal blabbed about you to.”
“My father is certainly not, before we left, he had already started receiving calls from others who wants to try their children to be your mate.” Vane added.
Cirdan explanation just made me more confused, sure the principal betrayed me but what was the reason and whose mate? I was already mated.
“I still don’t understand?”
“Principal here, although knowing that you are mated, he sent out invitations for the ballroom party hosted in school here every three years, it is not normally attended by outsiders but to draw others to attend and if possible chose to register in this school afterwards, he used you as the main attraction and the twins were the first to honor his invitation, luckily. To ensure that he did not disobey your parents' orders and it did not discourage them from showing up, he dangled the fact that you were a hybrid between two races of Faery and that you are mateless. The hybrid was to make other races think that they have a chance with you but the fact that you were mated would discourage them, so he hid that fact.”
I turned to look at the principal in shock at his mechanizations and the moment I faced him, he started to rush words out, trying to explain his view.
“They were still going to be aware; I just made use of the opportunity. ATI has not been admitting that much, but this will increase the population and spread unity among the races more. I did what would be best for everybody in general,” he argued.
“And when the dangerous people you invite starts putting the heir of Folks and light fae in danger, what will you do? What will you do when the news that me and Iris are already mated spread, and the council knows? What will you do then?” Cirdan asked and the principal opened his mouth then closed it without releasing any words.
“They would know better than to hurt her.” The principal mumbled when we all decided to wait him out.
“Really, you can bet your life on it?” Cirdan asked. Walking closer to the principal. “Because I will hold your life in exchange if anything bad happens to her because of your visitors. Okay?” Cirdan ended before he gently turned me around to take me out of the office.
Before we got to the door, the secretary walked in. “Sir, the special guests have arrived, and they need help in settling down.”
“I have warned you.” Cirdan threatened as he turned to leave with Vane and Vine remaining behind to stare at him. Apparently they still have unfinished business with him.
